I bought this to replace a metal one I had which had a bad design because the plastic nut on the handle broke. I chose this for its superior design and in this respect it’s fine – the handle is well designed and sturdy. However it’s rubbish in every other respect. Tiny receptacle, cheese gets stuck in it and is impossible to extract. Expensive for what it is.

Some reviewers have complained about the performance of this grater for some foods, including soft cheeses. It’s not FOR soft cheeses! It is for hard cheeses like parmesan, and works very well and with moderate effort. I’ve also used it to grate almonds. The size of the hopper is relatively small, so it has to be refilled frequently if you are doing a lot of grating. However, this is a reasonable compromise to ensure that the hand pressure needed for grating is not too high. This should fit average hands very well. I have large hands, and wish this was just a touch bigger, but this will fit most people very well.

No more grated cheese all over the table. It goes on the food as intended.

Bought this 3 months ago to replace my older model by Zyliss. That one stayed sharp for 10 years and I kept it around for a lot longer than that. This model seems a bit flimsier but still decent quality plastic and has a quality grating cylinder. However there is a design flaw with the way this handle is shaped with it’s concave hollowed out edges. If I’m not extremely careful, I pinch the fleshy part of my hand under my thumb every time I use it. I have really caught myself badly twice now as the handles close together fully as the cheese is finished. It’s gotten to the point where I may have to replace it. For what it’s worth I have skinny hands so it’s not a weight problem. Would rate it 4 to 5 stars if it weren’t for that.

I’ve tried plenty of cheese graters over the years and this is the best. It just works. And it works quickly. And it’s easy to clean. It’s not so cheap but it’s worth every penny in my book!

Was not sure about paying the price for the professional grater but it’s really easy to use and clean. Comes apart easily and goes in dishwasher. Much better than my old Parmesan grater. Really sharp good quality drum.

I’ve had two previous versions of this grater that worked well and lasted a couple of years each until some plastic portion broke. This version however i find difficult to use. Both the main gripping area and the turning handle are too short which makes it hard to grip and turn the grater. I would not buy this version again.

I was under the impression that this grater would work with semi-hard cheeses like the average block of cheese that you would buy from the grocery store and boy, was I wrong! I would leave the block of cheese in the fridge until I was ready to grate it (to keep it as cold as possible) and even then, the cheese would melt in the grater and become mushy. It wouldn’t even come out of the grater, it would just clump up in the grater and I’d have to go in with a knife to get it. In addition, it made cleaning this grater a nightmare! The cheese was nearly impossible to get out of every nook and cranny. It was as if the friction of the grating action melted the cheese into the grater. Unless you’re using extremely hard cheese like parmigiano reggiano, be prepared for a huge disappointment. Not only will you waste your cheese to create a warm, icky mush; you’ll also pull your hair out just trying to clean it.

If you like cheese paste then you should get this. Tried using it today for the first time, the cheese comes out of a hole on the side of the machine, a tiny hole… everything gets mushed inside of it and you have to dig it out with a knife. Took me forever to grate a small block of cheese and clean the machine. Doesn’t come apart easily had to basically pry it open with a knife. The only instructions given are on the actual box and it is not helpful at all. Basically I could have grated the cheese with a box grater, cleaned it up and watched a show in the time it took to use this contraption and wash it. If you thinking of buying this- just take your 22$ and light it on fire instead, you’ll enjoy that more.

Smaller than I anticipated… you really need to cut the Parmesan in under 2” chunks to use this grater. Since I’m not running a restaurant, I suppose this size is ok but I really should have read the specs. On the upside, it fits nicely in a medium sized freezer bag for storage in the fridge between requirements. Note: this really is a grater, not a fine shredder and it produces small bits not long shavings.

Ordered a Zyliss Classic Rotary Cheese Grater – NSF Restaraunt.

Spent the extra cash to get a GOOD cheese grater for dry cheese. Knowing my local restaurants use this cheese grater i wanted the same.
Item arrived… no brand name, DIRTY and unboxed. Item looks different. Item fell apart on first use, Steel drum came apart from unit.. Submitted claim and have not seen any result of that.
