Sauder 418794 Edge Water Utility Cart/Stand, Chalked Chestnut Finish

Unfortunately, wood-constructed furniture is unreasonably expensive in the United States. Only use-and-throw disposable quality stuff is marketed, at prices you’d afford for furniture. This one is one of those paperboard pieces.
We purchased it for ~$65 and right now it is $112. True value of the paperboard furniture is unfathomably low, the huge margin is profit.
The product though is quite heavy for its material volume (compared to other paperboard stuff I assembled). I assume it is high dense paperboard, only time will tell if that weight is helpful.
The paper veneer peeled off easily at one or two spots on the top surface, with mild use. The edges don’t seem to be well done – you can see white paper. If you have anything wet placed on it, prepare for swelling and eventual disposal. This unit is for very dry and light use.
We are using it to store groceries and wine bottles (moved the shelf inside to the top slot).
I’d have given three stars for the quality of the unit knowing it is not wood. I gave four stars for the low price.
But at $112 for this unit, I don’t recommend this one.

This kit went together flawlessly. I have purchased and assembled many Sauder furniture pieces in the past, and this one met my expectations just as all the others have. And the hardware packaging, which was new to me, was wonderful – all hardware being in separate, labeled pouches, on a large plastic sheet. Very easy to identify and open while not disturbing the rest. Regarding other comments, the drawer alignment is a little tricky, but certainly doable. You have to level the drawer slides individually using the cam under the slide before tightening the screws at the end. And you have to fold the top edge of the back cover firmly so that it lies flat at the top and back. But all doable with a little care, and with a wonderful final appearance.

Some pieces were scuffed and, in one case, gouged. Some pieces not cut properly to fit in area provided.

Very poorly made. Gaps between pieces even with experienced person assembling cart.

Don’t purchase this cabinet.

“Quick and easy assembly with patented t-lock drawer system.”

I can not attest to the “patented t-lock drawer system” because we never got that far. But I can address the claim of “quick and easy assembly”:

I’d like to meet the person who designed and engineered this piece of crap because I’ve never seen anything like it. My husband and I have assembled many items far more complex than this, but we finally had to throw in the towel.

First of all, who dreamed up this system of hidden cams and dowels, because it’s positively Byzantine. The pieces don’t properly line up and many of the connectors are far too easily stripped. Every time we tried to fasten and tighten one section, another section previously fastened and tightened would pop back out. It’s impossible to securely fasten anything. I could tell that even if we DID get the thing fully assembled, it would never be sturdy enough to serve its purpose.

Not only did I toss this, I will never order another Sauder product. Instead I ordered a fully-assembled piece from Wayfair which not only looks great but functions beautifully.

Do yourself a favor and pass this terrible product by.

Beautiful and well crafted (for the price) We are using it as a microwave stand and I like the easy pull out drawer and cupboard with shelf in bottom. You have to build it took hubby about 1 hour to build and said very good instructions for a change.

Beautiful cabinet! Aside from it being quite beautiful it is very sturdy. I am very pleased and would recommend it.

This was a real nightmare. My husband has put many things together and is very good at figuring things out. He could not get this together. He spent 2 days trying to get it together. He said he never ever had a problem doing this. This is what he does as a job.Nothing lined up and couple screws broke and would not secure in the holes. The whole thing was a piece of crap. The instructions were only pictures and all on one sheet which made things confusing to follow. I would never buy another thing from this company. Really do your research. From now on I’ll go to the store and get something already together. I’ll buy a sample done on the floor and pay more or take a beaten on the price. Would be lot less stress.
