I don’t usually write reviews, but this product was so dreadful I thought it unfair on other potential customers not to warn them of how utterly useless this product is. It doesn’t fit the handle – it’s too big and flaps off the end of my Lodge 20″ skillet (which incidentally is a great product I would highly recommend). What is worse is that it doesn’t do it’s job and it gets hot if used for any length of time. It is simply not worth buying as you’d be better off with an oven glove or even a tea towel. Very disappointed.

I bought this for the Lodge 10.5 inch pre-seasoned cast iron square grill pan as I thought it would be a good buy for it as it’s from the same manufacturer. It is not a good product, the silicon holder does not fit well, it slips very easily even though there are “gripping” strips inside the handle. I tried it a few times but it slipped every time so in the end I binned it and used a rolled up tea-towel – which in an odd way was so much cooler!! (pardon the pun). If you are looking at the Lodge grill pan/brush/holder, buy the first two – they are superb, just leave this.

This handle cover not only slips around because it’s too big for the Lodge handle…. but it also heats up and I hurt my hand when I gripped it….. the exact opposite of what the product is meant to do.

It is quite nice. Bought for the ten-inch skillet. That actually has as straight handle. So the shape is not entirely true. The ten-inch skillet is a bit different from the frying pan. It will squeeze onto the straight handle. It arrived about 5 days prior, to the published expected date. The cast iron pans and skillets transmit a lit of heat. Years ago when we had them. We used to bind the handle with large natural chord. This is much better, for they are easily removed if needed. They come in a variety of colours but black is the least expensive and red the most. Which demonstrates the popularity of colours … me thinks. The Silicone hot handle is a nice addition for any cast iron pan that lacks a wooden one. A 4 from 5 rating for it’s lack of correct shape and boring colour.

Works well except it’s not that easy to pull off the handle, will end up staying on the pan.
Update: ended up burnt and melted because it stayed on the pan handle. Can’t confirm if it was placed too close to the heat source but this is not as heat resistant as I would expect…

If you have a cast iron pan and don’t have a holder, buy this right now.
My stupid kitchen move is taking a cast iron pan out of the oven, placing it on the stove, and within a minute, forgetting about the oven thing, grab it with my bare hand. I barely have fingerprints on my right hand at this point. Popping this on the handle has saved my numerous times.
No matter how hot the handle gets, this holder is totally safe. You can feel some warmth through it sometimes, but that’s it.
Great purchase!

Bit of a pain to attach and remove and even when it is attached, it slips. Can be dangerous if you’re trying to handle a red hot cast iron pan and you don’t have confidence in the silicone handle remaining on.
It’s also not good enough to withstand the heat as the silicone itself gets very hot.
You’re better off with a high quality oven glove.

Not sure if its an issue with the silicone holder but when I’m cooking with my cast iron the handle is still very hot through the holder sometimes to the point where I need to use a towel or oven mitt as well as the holder. Maybe I’m just a wimp, but I thought the idea was to be able to pickup the pan without an oven mitt. You can move the pan around on the burners, but if you want to pickup the pan to plate anything you’ll need an oven mitt still.

I was a little disappointed in this product. The decription says that it should fit the “medium” cast iron lodge pan the ti have but I find it loose. It twists a little when one. So that means you need to make sure you have a tight grip or the slight twist may catch you off guard. That being said, it is not going to jus slip off or anything but I expected that a lodge branded one would fit perfectly for the advertised pan size. Maybe my pan is “abnormal” but I didn’t think so. But in terms of what it is supposed to do, keep you hands form burnin. It does that perfectly. It keeps the heat insulated well so that you don’t absentmindedly grab the handle an burn yourself. That was the main reason why I bought it.

I love this. Was using a hot mat prior but there was always the concern of it catching fire or someone else grabbing the handout and not realizing how hot it is. So happy with this purchase. It does feel warm too touch but not hot at all. Totally fine. Glad I got the black. I think colour would cheapen the look.

Used this on a very very hot lodge pan handle which had been in a high heat and was melting any cloth it came into contact with. Forgot and left this on the pan handle when I reinserted it into high heat ….. Amazingly it withstood without charring or burning … the top changed colour to grey ! But still gave fantastic protection. No hesitation giving 5 stars.

I bought one for each of my 12″ and 8″ skillets. Both pans can slip out of the handle which I’m not that happy with. The smaller skillet definitely slips out easier than the larger one which can be dangerous since you wouldn’t want a hot pan full of food falling out of your hand. To resolve this I bought self-fusing silicone tape (which can be found on ebay or aliexpress) and wrapped several layers on the pan handle itself before putting this sleeve over top. Due to the shape and material it works like a champ. Since both are silicone it grips well and are heat resistant. I have full confidence in using these handle holders now without any issues. It insulates from heat very well. Only when I’ve used a pan on high heat for an extended period of time would it get fairly warm to touch. I’ve also had it in the oven as high as 375 F without any issues.
I’ve dealt with cheap silicone trivets before and have realized that if you have thin silicone it can act as an insulated barrier until you apply enough pressure that it contacts the heat source on one side and your hand on the other side. When that happens it can get hot fast! For this handle holder, as it’s fairly thick and consistent across the whole circumference, I haven’t encountered that problem despite using a fairly heavy 12″ skillet.

So first thing I wasn’t sure if this would fit my lodge 10”. It totally did. It’s a little loose but it kind of has to be ya know? Like it’s boy something you’re gonna leave on the handle or use in the oven or anything. It’s just for stove top cooking. It does heat up but NOTHING like the handle alone so it makes cast iron bareable to work. If you’re like me and can mindlessly grab handles out of habit. I love my cast iron it just needed a little help and this was it!
