I’ve used this skillet for 10 months now and am very happy with it. In almost all respects it’s just what I want from an electric skillet. I have only one small complaint. The legs keep coming loose. To allow for shipping in a smaller container (and save shipping costs), the legs are not attached when you get it and you have to put them on yourself; that’s easy to do. However, the screws that hold the legs on keep coming lose. I’ve had to tighten the screws 5 times in 10 months. I’m afraid to tighten any tighter than I am for fear of cracking these plastic legs. I went to the hardware store and bought four small #8 stainless steel lock washers and put them on with the screws. Surely the engineers designing this should have thought of that.

My wife loves it. When her old one broke after several years, I bought her the new one. She fixes meals, especially breakfasts, in a flash without having to dirty a bunch of other pots and pans. My only problem is cleaning. The temperature control unplugs, but the cooking surface does not detach from the holder, so it’s a little bulky to clean. That being said, she doesn’t mind it. Great little skillet for family of two.

There could be durability issues. Not to say I’ve had a problem with this one but I did have a problem in a semi with just a griddle that I dropped on the floor in the handle shattered. So that could possibly be a problem here if you happen to bang it or drop it at home which is where I use this item but I have not done with this item I love these Presto griddle

I love to cook, but I have a small, apartment-style kitchen, with a narrow stove and limited counter top space with which to work on. I do most of my cooking and prep work in a compressed L-shaped area where the stove is to my left and my kitchen sink just around the corner to my right. I tuck this electric skillet in the corner of the “L” and either use it as an extension of my stove, or instead of. The skillet’s non-stick surface is so smooth, it’s perfect for making dishes like crab cakes, where I pre-cook various ingredients for use in the final assembly stage, and can simply give the skillet a wipe with a paper towel between each cooking cycle. I only have to wash the pan once at the end of the meal (and the small pan size fits perfectly in my small sink). The skillet heats up quickly, and the temperature control lights up while coming up to temperature and turns off when the desired temperature is reached. I’ve also noticed that my skillet is reasonably level on my reasonably level counter top (e.g., cooking oil doesn’t puddle up in any corner of the skillet), and the skillet’s clear glass lid is very handy for monitoring food that is simmering.

    Additional Information:
    1. The skillet’s cooking area is 11 x 11 inches; and its width, including handles, is 11 x 14.5 inches.
    2. The power cable is 30 inches long, which works great if you have an electrical outlet nearby. I like it, because I prefer not to have a lot of redundant electrical cord laying about and taking up space.
    3. Temperature control settings range from 200 to 400, with an additional Warm setting.
    4. I’ve found nothing in the documentation that states the temperature of the Warm setting, but my (unscientific) tests with my instant read thermometer indicate that Warm on my skillet runs about 168 degrees Fahrenheit; and it doesn’t bring water to a boil. There’s an unofficial “Warm” setting, just below the labeled Warm setting, at the first point on the temperature control where the heat light comes on. This unofficial setting on my skillet runs about 108 degrees Fahrenheit.
    5. The skillet’s heating element is hotter in the center of the skillet (e.g., the center crab cake browns faster), but not so much that it caused any of my food to burn.
    6. Both the lid and skillet (but not the power control) are dishwasher safe, though the documentation that comes with the skillet warns that dishwasher detergent will discolor the bottom of the skillet. I’ve found the skillet easy to clean in (a cleared out) sink, so I haven’t bothered to try it the dishwasher.
    7. This skillet isn’t designed for deep frying, and the documentation states that very clearly.

Works great and would have received five stars but I think Rival has the Presto beat:

    Cons
1- Assembly required, no big deal but my Rival brand skillet came fully assembled.
2- No non-skid feet, there again, no big deal but my other one has rubber feet that keep it from easily sliding.
3- No vent in the lid but the lid doesn’t have a really tight fit, but still.
4- More expensive that the Rival

    Pros
1- Does seem to have a thicker more durable non-stick coating than the Rival, time will tell.
2- Has ‘Submersible’ stamped in the metal underneath near the center, the Rival does not.
3- Seems to be more durable/tougher with the one piece handles. The Rival has leg ‘posts’ that just look like they could be easily broken.

Pro to both Presto and Rival – the power/temperature control module and cord are interchangeable.

All in all if I had to make the purchase again, I think I would have gone with the Rival with the Presto a close 2nd choice.

I found where the knob on the lid had a crack in it. I’m not sure when it happened but I’m just glad I found it before it broke completely off while cooking. Good thing most knobs are similar and I found one in my junk bin to replace it with.

Well, beginning to think the Presto is the most durable. The non-stick coating on my comparable Rival doesn’t seem to be holding us well as the Presto.
