I previously had another Sony Boombox with which I was very pleased. This one is of poorer quality and, worst of all, the lid of the CD player rattles when a CD is being played. I’ve attempted to stop the rattling, which is quite audible, by weighing the lid down during use, but it doesn’t help. (I can’t rate the battery life because I’ve only used it with the electric cord.)

Bought this to take to the drive-in but it’s so awesome we use it around the house. All the features work as advertised and the sound is pretty good. I love the digital FM tuner and the Aux input to play music from our phones. Major drawbacks are 1) no cord storage bin and 2) not enough station presets.

Just recently my long-time Sony CD boombox finally bit the dust (more on that later). I immediately sprung into action: I got on Amazon, typed in “Sony CD boombox“ and it led me to this. Based on the mostly positive reviews, I did not hesitate and ordered it.

“Sony Portable CD Player Boombox Personal Audio System ZS-PS50” is a lot more than a CD player, but for me that is the key feature. Upon arrival I took it out of the box and it literally took me no more than a minute to set it up and have it playing. One of the first things I noticed is that the sound is a lot thinner than what I got from the previous Sony CD boombox. There are no buttons to adjust (increase or decrease, as you prefer) the treble or the bass. If you look at this product’s description as listed here on Amazon, it refers to having “Mega Bass” but that is simply not true: there is no Mega Bass button to be found. Also noticeable is how much lighter this Sony CD boom box weighs as compared to the previous one. Last but not least, there is no remote control with this set. The set also features AM and FM radio, and you can play your MP3s as well (I have not tried these features).

Bottom line: this Sony boombox is functional but frankly inferior in every which way to the prior Sony boom box I had. That one served great for over 20 (!) years, albeit in limited (seasonal) use. It may well be that this new Sony CD boom box is as good as you can buy out there these days, which only underscores the point how much the quality of these products have regressed over the years.

Really disappointed with this Boombox from the USA, Sadly had to return owing to Shoddy Product. To find that in returning this to the Seller, charging us $15.35.?? We Joined Amazon.com.au–Prime Membership. Disgusted & Angry.

I purchased this “sort of low cost radio” to replace my old Bose wave! I know- no comparison. But this radio has no back lighting so without a flash light you cant see the clock or what track the CD or USB is on. Then the CD player stopped working after about 1 week then the USB stopped working shortly after. Total waste of time & money, thankfully it broke way before the return policy was up so I got a refund no problem, now I just have to find a decent radio but without paying big $ for another Bose, the reviews of most radios out there all look pretty bad as if they’re all junk nowadays.
