Overall I am happy with this purchase. I bought 2 one for myself and one for my boyfriend. One turned out to be a lemon (wouldn’t hold a charge and a button fell off), but amazon is great and quickly sent me a replacement. It seems to track my steps well, especially after calibrating it. I like that it displays my text messages. That feature is very convenient when I’m in a bar, on a bus, or some were loud. It simply vibrates on your wrist, sometimes I’m not quick enough to look at it and catch the full message, but it alerts me to the fact that I have one. There is no way to scroll back and see the message again (it just scrolls through it twice then its done). I like the sleep function, it seems fairly accurate when compared to the sleep as android app on my phone. The watch fits well and I prefer it to be low profile which this one is. It works for both my boyfriend and myself, we have small wrists.
In order for this watch to work you have to have a compatible phone. When you get the watch make sure to sync it with the phone first. It will update the time and keep track of your steps and workouts. My boyfriend did a work out before pairing it and ended up losing the data form that work out.

Everything that the user manual says will work….works. I’m having no issues with receiving text messages or phone calls and the temperature has dropped 2 degrees over the past hour and a half just as my Weather Channel app has on my Galaxy S4. I even took some of the other features for a test drive (Workout mode, pedometer) and both seemed to be accurate. So far this product is as advertised and I would recommend it based on features alone.

Update: I did my first full workout this morning and everything worked as it was supposed to. I did 48 minutes on the treadmill (normally 4 miles), and the pedometer registered 4.26 miles. No big deal, the user manual states that you need to calibrate your device to you as soon as you log your first workout. I very simply calibrated and I fully expect my next workout to register correctly. Another issue that had been previously reported was that the texting and calling features don’t work. I received what seemed like a million text messages and a few phone calls from a frantic teenager (my daughter) who forgot her volleyball jersey at home over a period of about 10 minutes. Every single message came through without any issues.

The only knock I have on this product is that I’m not sure if my alarm went off this morning. I set it 1 minute before my phone alarm to see if it would make me up. I don’t recall feeling the vibration and my phone eventually was what got me up. This is a minor problem for me so I won’t be docking any stars for that.

Great overall idea. Poor functionality. I’ve had it a month and still haven’t been able to record a workout, or properly calibrate it. Every time i set it to workout, in resets and i lose all the data from that day. The strap is an absolute joke. Comes loose when I take a sweater or shirt off, just a matter of time before I lose it completely. Great idea. But needs work… Big time.

I was really excited to find this; I have had other Timex products and expected this to be as reliable as the others. I compared it to the Fitbit and other products. I liked the styling and (stated) color, too. I was primarily going to use this as an easy- to- wear pedometer, but the watch feature and other “goodies” made it even more attractive. (I wish it were waterproof, though.) When it arrived, the color is not “lilac” as described, it is hot pink. (Grumble.) The user’s manual stated to charge it using a computer port or an ac adapter. I chose an ac adapter. It was difficult trying to line up the charging band with the little electrodes on the watch. Charging should have taken about three hours; it took twelve. The next time, it wouldn’t charge at all with an adapter. I called Timex, and a tech rep said to charge it using only a computer port. Sigh. I have had this watch a little over a month. Due to other charging difficulties, I have sent it back to Timex to be repaired or replaced. The watch’s ability to link with the phone app is fussy, too. Maybe the fixed or replaced one will work seamlessly, and I’ll love it. ???

After about 4 weeks of use I feel I can review the X20 with a fair amount of experience. The product wears well and does not bother me at all throughout the day. Battery lasts a full week without concern I charge it Sunday evenings while I am having dinner and not really doing much. Speaking of charging, that is the worst part of this product. The design of that system is terrible and for no good reason. They could have used the same concept of the strap and cradle but just added either a second peg on the cradle, sides to the cradle for support, or both. Something so it is not twisting while trying to secure it or being on the charger for a few minutes then shifting on its own under the force of the strap.

The alert functions for text messages and phone calls works well while I am at work allowing me to just glance at my wrist and not have to pull out my phone. I do however wish I could hit a button and review the last notification received. There are times when my hands are full and I can’t turn my wrist fast enough to see the message or the caller/sender.

The activity functions of the product are not very accurate, even after calibrating it using the app and a known distance walked. It is counting steps while doing basic tasks while stationary such as making dinner or working at the computer as well as while driving in my vehicle. This is something that really needs to be worked on it Timex wants to market this as an activity band. I will be keeping the product since I have worn it this long testing it out and the notification features seem to work but as far as an activity tracker I am disappointed be keeping my eye out for a better more accurate product unless there is a way that Timex can fix these with a firmware update which I doubt but would welcome.

For now I will give it 3 stars and see how it goes after a few months of use.

The companion app also seems to have a few issues that I will mention but not lower the rating based on since this review is for the X20 hardware and not the app. The app does not adjust to different displays well causing some layout issues on the display of my Moto X. I have also noticed that the temperature reporting feature is basically worthless since sometimes is shows the temp in my area and other times it is reporting for someplace completely different and I have no idea where or why. As an example this morning it was 3 degrees here in Kansas and the X20 told me it was 78, currently it is 46 and the X20 says 64. I think these issues can be fixed with an update to the app.
