Bought a second one (Region A only) as the first one was an all-region unit but some Blu-Rays would not play because they are restricted to a specific region device. Other than this issue (not the products’ fault), they work very well. Industry people: get a life and stop screwing around with all this region nonsense! You only cause grief for end users and you don’t solve pirating problems at all.

I got this one in exchange for one that I bought from the same vendor, I had to pay $20.00 for returning the first one but I selected it without fully understanding that one’s capabilities. On the plus side, the shipping to me was free.
Nonetheless, this one is perfect. The sound is great, the disc carriage assembly appears reasonably solid, the unit is small, and it plays all I need it to; Blue Ray/DVD/ and Audio CD.

“Canada model” means it’s not region-free. But they’re not explaining it in the product description, you have to discover it by yourself. That’s the difference between the regular S1700 (180$) and this “Canada model”. If you don’t care about the region-free functionality, go with this one!
I use it with a Epson Projector (Home Cinema 3500) with a 95inches-base screen. The video quality is really not as good as my playstation3 (it looks like some ants are moving all around!). For the audio : it doesn’t read DTS HD MST (are we in 2018…). I’ll sell it and just use my PS3 or buy a real BD-player. I guess with a “regular” TV it may works fine.

What they don’t specify here, which makes sense now, is this is not region-free. It plays not DVD’s and BluRay’s from yonder across the pond! Damn! Still, for the price, it is the best you can get. Excellent picture quality and all. There is another BDPS-1700 but that’s for about 189 something dollars, wherein it says region free. I guess, this Canadian model is just for Region-1 DVD’s and Zone-A BluRay’s.

Sony’s 2017 offering in the economy player category is a bit lacking, and comes with frustrating default settings, but somewhere underneath is a solid viewing experience.
The product doesn’t have Wi-Fi, doesn’t have 4k, and won’t stream PS Now until an update of the software (which you need to do manually).
The default power save setting is less than 5 minutes, so if you’re thinking about grabbing food mid way through a marathon, notr your place.
Or change the settings before hand.
Unfortunately, without some additional storage (USB) you won’t be able to resume your show if the player does power off, meaning waiting through the menus, searching for your place and jumping back in.
That said, the format support is solid, the load times are slight, and the boot sequence is near automatic.
For a snappy Blu-ray experience, this little box is a capable performer.

I just got this today. Works fine. Easy set up. But it does NOT IN ANY WAY SUPPORT STREAMING GAMES. This was the main reason I chose this unit. I Even purchased a controller in order to play the “over 300” streaming ps3 games and so have doubly wasted my money. Very disappointed.

When I bought this refurbished unit, I had my doubts. I’ve bought a few refurbished things from third party sellers and they haven’t always given me pleasant surprises. But this one did. It operated like it was brand new straight out of the box. It came with all the wires I needed to plug it into my tv and a remote that looked untouched. I have yet to try the online features since I don’t have a LAN cable or an internet connection, but this machine plays discs just fine. I’ve watched DVDs and Blu-ray Discs without any problem whatsoever. I’ve also been able to plug an external hard drive in the USB port to watch home movies and the like on it. Overall, this blu-ray player has performed well for a refurbished product, and I can only imagine that a brand new model would deliver the same level of satisfaction.

Purchased this for a gift and decided to inspect it before gifting. I was disappointed to find out that this model does not have the dual Digital and TOSLINK connections that were depicted in rear pictures of this model when I was deciding to purchase it. Those rear photos appear to no longer be posted (probably for good reason). The only external audio out on the back of the unit is a single digital RCA style connector. My disappointment is because I ordered a TOSLINK cable to go with the purchase for the receiver. Frustrating! Fortunately the receiver accepts both types. Please post accurate images of the rear panel so that customers can see the connectivity.
Also note that I connected a Logitech keyboard unified receiver to the USB and a keyboard does work but with limited capability by app. Netflix App allows keyboard typing entries, YouTube App does not (Only arrow keys and return key function). Note to Sony, Please update the apps to better support keyboard input.
