This is the only non-digital radio with big knobs I could find. I was happy to find it for my Dad who is very confined during covid. I tried it before giving it to someone to give to him (!) and it had that radio kind of reception/sound (not great; as expected) but the real problem was the battery option. I put brand new batteries in and it didn’t work at all. I would have returned it except that my Dad has no other external input in life right now and he needs it. It is plugged in the he wall and he is enjoying it. So far so good with that! 😊

Well it worked for 2 months then the volume button started to crackle and the sound would go off. Then it worked again so we thought it was radio reception . After another month it happened again and now it doesn’t work at all unless we hold out finger on the volume button. So it’s junk. Don’t buy it. Sorry to the seller but it’s no good. It breaks down right after warranty is over. Products and parts are tested and developed this way . It’s pretty common with China junk

I have tested out three different radios purchased from Amazon: this Retekess, a Sangean, and a Looptone. I can’t emphasize this enough: this one has by far – BY FAR – the best AM reception of the three. There’s no comparison. I tried the Sangean with a separate antenna tower that I purchased (the Looptone doesn’t even allow for this option), and it was still vert static-y. This Retekess, by comparison, is practically crystal clear. The reason, as far as I can tell, ia that the Retekess comes with a long built-in extendable antenna.
Best of all, this radio is 2x to 3x less expensive than the other two. With the others, you’re basically paying for ‘fancy’ casing. Frankly, I like the standard look of this 80s-ish radio as much if not more than the faux-retro stylings of the other radios.
And, I like that while the speaker on this Retekess gets plenty loud, its lowest volume setting is actually low. I find that with the others, the lowest volume setting is still quite loud, which can be uncomfortable in a confined space.
Note: I’m plugging this radio into the wall (not using batteries) and I’m located in Toronto. The AM stations I listen to most commonly are SN590 and TSN1010.

Ordered this after a power outage. My bedroom clock, alarm, radio only gets one station. As soon as I turned this on I could tell it was picking up loads of stations. Went right out and bought D batteries for it and now I’m prepared for next outage which could happen now that cold weather is close. Now instead of sitting in dark quiet apartment building wondering when power will return or what happened, I’ll be able to listen to radio with good reception for info or music if I want. For me it’s for if the power goes out.

My father really liked this radio since the sound is good and it is very easy to operate. Unfortunately, he dropped it. There is no physical damage evident yet the radio is totally dead. I opened it up to see if anything was broken inside. Nothing really visible but I suspect there may be hairline cracks in the circuit board. I think it should have a design change so that a non-damaging external impact should not turn this device into garbage instantly. We have purchased another and plan to secure it so it won’t be dropped.

Maybe I just got a lemon,but sound is poor and reception is very finicky. Very tinny sound and that surprised me because others gave it a good rating. I will be buying a different one for sure. It arrived very quickly and perfect condition so that part was good,but seems to be VERY poor quality,sorry I chose it. Again,it is possible that I got one that was dropped or manufacturing problem,but I certainly wouldnt recommend.

Avant d’arrêter votre choix sur ce radio, vous devez comprendre deux choses. D’une part, il est sujet aux interférences (base de téléphone sans fil, fils électriques dans le mur dans mon cas), probablement comme tous les radios de ce niveau de prix. Cela ce traduit par un “hummm” à la plusieurs stations. D’autre part le bouton du volume est extrêmement sensible, passant de zéro à fort en un mm. Les conditions idéales d’usage sont donc qu’il soit placé à au moins un pied d’un mur ou d’une source d’interférence et qu’il soit destiné à un usage autre que de la musique de fond de faible intensité. Cela dit, le bouton de recherche de poste est rapide et précis et placé sur le côté droit, ce que je trouve ergonomique.

Great reception(on FM only) and sound. On AM some very strong stations with talk on certain words can overload the tuner a bit and found that a slight detune can lessen this. Other than that a great radio and recommended. They just need to tweek the DSP chip to fix the AM problem, but like I said it’s only on very strong signals. This radio also shows headphone capable but is really a mono jack and a stereo plug will need an adaptor for it to work with headphones. To update Sept 6/2019 the AM problem is annoying and seems to be a break up of the audio on some stations especially on certain words with talk. Down graded my review because of this. Too bad as this would otherwise be a great unit. They need to fix this.
