PETER PATON –
I just got the new driver pad and it seems ORECK must have been listening to the customers as the new pad is easier to remove bonnets, I just checked it with the iron-man bonnet and very easy to put on and remove without any issues – so easy I can remove the bonnet with one hand.
I will for sure order a few more of these driver pads – Thanks very much for the 2 day shipping as well.

I bought this holder as instructed by Oreck to use their orbital unit as a sander. Oreck has a lot of explaining to do for this marvelously stupid design. The sanding pads have no means for attaching to the Oreck unit other than friction and a prayer. Unfortunately, neither works reliably once the machine is on. I spent more time retrieving and repositioning the sanding sheet than actually sanding, and the sheet will wear unevenly and quickly as a result. Calling Oreck’s technical center is equally pointless, since they instructed me to ignore the original instructions; their new instructions worked even worse and could potentially damage this holder. Pretty sure their explanation was simply to get me off the phone. By the way, since I went through my order of sanding sheets too fast, I was able to find rectangular sheets of the same sanding material in the rental department at HD for a fraction of the cost, but you have to cut your own circles. Maybe while you are at HD, you can also rent a proper sander.

Further Update – Just found the old one it definitely was the one with the circle grippers and was still has more holding grip that even a brand new one with the tiny rows of teeth.
Update – just got one from Ordeck that looks like it should, which makes this a knock off, not a changed product.
This pad had many small teeth that only lasted 3/4 of a room before they started tearing up the backs of my stripper pads. Previously I had bought, and received from Amazon, the one pictured with the rows of round teeth, there has been no design change, I checked. The one with rows of round teeth was still working fine after stripping up over spray plaster, paint and carpet glue from two bedrooms, two halls and a big living room. Had ‘someone’ not moved it when rearranging the garage, I would have not had to order this darn thing. Now I am stuck waiting until I can get another one and order some new stripper pads, since it kept tearing up the ones I was using. If you don’t receive the one pictured on the screen in the first picture you better be prepared to replace the pad holder every two pads.

This was a replacement for the original drive pad that came with my orbiter. I use the orbiter in my carpet cleaning business to agitate very dirty carpets before I steam clean them and also to scrub tile and grout. The first drive plate as held up pretty good considering how much use it’s had for many years and this one is identical so I expect the same.
Note – I modify my pad drivers by splitting the upper and lower plastic pieces. Then I remove the white double sided adhesive and discard the side with all the little “hooks”. The reason is that those little hooks tear up the pads every time you take the pad off thereby considerably shortening the life of your pads. After the adhesive is cleaned off, I use strong glue to glue down strips of velcro. The velcro will hold the pads just fine and save the un-needed wear and tear.

works as it was deigned and sold to me

This pad holder is an obvious knockoff, as it isn’t even flat! Nor does it fit the orb550mc… it’s too tight!
And it bows inward at the middle, meaning that the only thing that might have worked was the edges…
So, no, not possibly workable!

It is what it was designed to do
