To keep it simple this is quite a chunky but sturdy tripod head it moves smoothly and tightens and locks easily with minimal force.

It is a little wobbly when the lower screw which adjusts the panning is loose but not really a problem at all.

Suits my arca swiss locking plate nicely.
I’m happy with this purchase given the price its a bargain for amateur use.

Quite what your paying for when you buy a £300+ one I really don’t know.

As expected from reviews, I spent over an hour removing the lubricant from the gimbal with paint thinner. Replaced lubricant with tabs of wheel bearing grease. The build is solid however there is a small defect in the casting that does not affect the usage. Wish I had noticed the Carbon Fiber version before purchasing this one because this version is not light. When you add an extension to balance the camera with a telephoto the weight makes a difference.

This arrived on a cold morning, +2C or so, and was itself cold.
Out of the box the pivots were mobile but so stiff as to be almost unusable.
Having read/watched various reviews etc. mentioning thick, viscous grease I placed this gimbal in front of a fan heater and after a few minutes it was warm and the pivots were less stiff.
I dismantled the pivots, 6mm & 5/32″ Allen keys required, cleaned out the original grease (be careful it is VERY VERY sticky grease) and ‘repacked’ the pivots with a grease I had in the garage ( Castrol moly grease).
If you remove the bushes (2) from the inclination pivot be sure to align them correctly when reassembling. The bushes have a notch in them which mates with a respective boss in the pivot’s ‘bore’, the bush nearest the clamp knob had two notches, one square the other seemed to be arched, the boss mates with the square notch, I don’t remember if the bush nearest the swinging arm had two notches.
The reassembled pivots are now beautifully free and smooth, so much so that, with an heavy lens and camera mounted and correctly balanced, the tilt/inclination pivot is, when not ‘clamped up’, now sensitive enough to respond to the attaching of the camera’s detachable strap (I have a IR remote clipped to the strap so the strap weighs slightly more than standard ).
As far as I am concerned it is now a great gimbal.

One minor gripe has been picked up with use, the knob/wing-bolt used to lock up the height slide protrudes quite a bit. If the camera/lens is mounted so that the camera’s hand grip bulge is towards the gimbal’s swinging arm then the “wing” nearest the camera can foul the bulge before the camera/lens can be moved to a balance position, as per the attached photo.
One of those sprung and rotatable-wing nut/bolt head cover things used by Manfrotto might resolve this and it a minor gripe. Of course I can also simply turn the camera/lens around, and do do so, but having the camera/lens as shown in the photo makes the lens switches more accessible.

The gimbal is well made. It is stiff, but it is easy to take apart if you are handy.
I used some lithium grease that I had at home. It is good for 0 Deg F. If it is colder I will not go out anyway. If you go to cold places, find L10308 biobased lithium grease. It is good for 40 degrees F below 0.
Once everything runs smoothly, you need to put some extra washer between the upper knob and the gimbal. I was lucky as I found a perfect Teflon ring in my washers. The gimbal works perfectly now. One more thing. In my opinion the plate is short for a 200-500 mm lens. Since I use it fully extended most of the time. It is balanced in the last hole only.
Update, I used the gimbal today. It works great!

Gimbal had a problem to move any of its parts. I took all a part immediately and I saw why. Grease or some other substance which they used, turn into glue. I removed all with electrical cleaner. Most parts inside are metal, some ABS plastic, I think. Pretty safe to use hard cleaners. There is smal roller bearing on the head. I used silicone waterproof, transparent grease, works great now. You need 4 mm and 7/32″ allen key and air operated ratchet. For the price it is excellent gimbal, comparable to much more expensive. I am using for Tamron 150-600 G2 lens on Nikon camera. Very smooth now. Well made and heavy. One more thing, Gimbal metal is not shiny as shows on picture and that is a good thing.

Overall this is a good Gimbal for the money the only thing wrong with it is the stiffness. I knew this before I bought it the fix is on Utube. I took the screws out and use a light degreaser clean out as much as you can, take your time there is some small parts in there that need to stay, and use light grease put in a fair bit but don’t over fill to replace it. The grease that they use is like stickem which was made in the 80’s and when it gets cold this one slows down. It took me about a hour to clean it and replace the grease now I have a smooth working gimbal. I use Nikon D3S and 200 to 500 5.6 Nikon lens

*edit Aug 3/19 – I gave this a good test run today, and have found it does have the little bit of play when the rotating base is not completely tight, BUT it is a very easy fix with a shim / washer placed in between, there is a youtube video showing how to do this fix.

I have a bought several Neewer products over the past year and can say with confidence they have greatly improved on quality. This Neewer Gimbal Head is a very good buy at it’s price point, get it on a Lightning deal and it’s hard to beat! Only wish Amazon put the CF on sale at the same time, as this aluminium is a bit “weighty” lol, it’s not heavy but carbon fibre is a lot lighter and more stable with less vibrations too..

I had this set it up completely ready to shoot in about 10 minutes on a Innorel RT90-CF tripod, I have never used or balanced a Gimbal set up before…and the instructions..are non-existent..lol..everything is amazingly easy..common sense goes a long way 😉
Mounted my Nikon 200-500 with my D850 and gave this gimbal a quick whirl…So far so good, it holds in position when locked down and has just the right tension to not be ‘free wheeling’ around, some others have said it was too much tension, I find it just about perfect.
I am VERY HAPPY with this purchase and would recommend it to anybody like me on a tight budget..

**I WILL UPDATE IF ANY ISSUES ARISE OR IF IT DOESN’T LIVE UP TO WORKING EXPECTATIONS**
IMPORTANT:: Make sure to double check all your mounting screws to ensure they are STAYING TIGHT, there have been reports of mounting points becoming loose, not sure if I have an updated version as it seems to not show any of those signs..yet..time will tell 🙂
There are a couple Youtube videos explaining how to fix the couple issues that have been noticed, all are very easily, and are worth the time and purchase.
As of my first impression, I would but this again without hesitation, Quality at a budget price…I’m sure the $500+ gimbal heads are “better” in some ways, but I can buy 6 of these at that price point 😉
…I’m not a “cheap” shopper (for the most part), I just like to get my moneys worth. 😀
..ps. this was $68 on a lightning deal

Very well made, adjusts and works as advertised. The viscous operation reported by others does exist, but I won’t go so far as to call it a bad thing. With heavier, 400 or 600mm lenses it is very helpful to have this stability because the geometry means there’s appropriate leverage to move around easily.

I’m can understand it’s annoying modifying a new product for some, but for the price difference between this and the competitors, I’m sure the fix that proposes replacing the grease with something less viscous would be worthwhile if you’re after operation with less effort at more standard focal lengths (where you might mount the camera itself to the gimbal, as opposed to a tripod collar).

After a lot of research, I decided that I would give this Neewer Gimbal a go to support my camera. Like i read, most others have stated, the Wimberley is the brand by which all Gimbal are measured but it’s very expensive and for me with short in budget bit difficult as I’m not a Pro and i wont use it daily.
There are some cheaper options out there and the reviews are in general good but often reference that the finish is a bit sub-par and that you really need to perform some mods and polishing etc to bring them up to speed.
The Neewer is a great compromise that offers excellent build quality and good value for money. It’s got a lot of heft to it, it’s heavy, but it needs that to support the weight of tlens & camera. I would say that you need to have sturdy tripod if you want to maintain a level of stability to confidently stick a long lens and expensive camera on top of it.
With the supplied long arca plate, it was surprisingly quick and intuitive to balance the camera and lens on the Neewer Gimbal so that it feels weightless, It does this very well and the smoothness and ease of movement is very impressive.
It’s worth it’s price and why pay more – well deserved of 5 stars.
I will update my review if my assessment changes as I use it over a longer period of time!
ATM I am very happy with this product.

The motion is a bit stiff, but that’s okay – it makes for slightly more intentional movements. The build quality on this gimbal head is pretty great.

I use this with a Sony A7iii so the weight is not intense (I don’t have any super heavy zoom lenses yet). At the base of this head is an included adapter that allows you to use 3/8 or 1/4 thread so in a pinch you can use a 1/4 threaded tripod if need be.

Build quality is spot on. It’s heavy, but that is perfectly in line with its intended usage. I use it on a super stable, heavy duty tripod with lockable feet which I believe is very important when using the Gimbal. It needs a bit of a learning curve if you have never used one before, but the results are always good and it is well worth it if you want precision photography.

I received my Gimbal yesterday. It seems very nice. Built is great. Bit heavy but it will do the job. Havent tested it yet, will test it as soon as weather will permit. Bought to use with Tamron 150-600 G2. Very strudy. Pan head seems to be a bit hard, will try to grease it when time comes.
over all for the price its a good addition to my photography gear.

Chose this particular model for the Arca Swiss quick release function. There are a few Gimbal stabilizers on the market, but not all propose the Arca Swiss standard. I’ve used it in Slimbridge for at the bird sanctuary as a trial one and it balanced the camera well. I was also able to set up and quickly disengage the camera at various viewing points around the sanctuary, including practical use in the bird houses. It’s a very solid product and I’m really pleased.
