Great for 3 and 5 year old. I question durability. The tree paint chipped as I removed the star during unpacking. I can’t complain, I got it for a great price during a Deal of the Day sale, but a durable item would be more environmentally sustainable. I wish I didn’t have to pay $25+ for the version with the Holiday Poem. I’ve attached a picture of the back on the Multilingual version.

Just got this yesterday. Great idea for young kids! I love that it’s reusable and doesn’t involve chocolate or little plastic toys. I do wish it was a little better made. It would be better if the wood was painted rather than having a thin cover sheet on the surface. The bottom of the tree was peeling and the sides of the tree where is sits in the base were chipped. I’m used to seeing higher quality from Melissa & Doug. Hoping the replacement I just requested from Amazon is better!
UPDATE: Received the replacement on Dec 3rd. Arrived in perfect condition! Changed rating from 3 to 4 stars as a result. Still wish it was painted rather than a cover sheet.

This wasn’t my first choice for a Christmas countdown for my 4-year old daughter, but I think it turned out well. The advent toy calendars were all sold out or would not arrive in time, so I tried for this. It was initially lost in the mail and then turned up 3 weeks late, so we only used it from mid-Dec onwards.
My daughter loved the concept of adding and “decorating” the tree with a bee magnet daily. It helped her with counting and visual recognition of numbers at a time where numbers in the teens and twenties still needed some work.
The tree itself is good quality and I can see it standing up for a few years. It’s feels like wood and the paint is well done, and colours are vibrant. The magnets stuck well enough to the tree. The box at the bottom was good to hold the magnet decorations not put up yet.
We just put all our Christmas stuff away and realized the magnets could easily get lost in storage. My husband put tape over the base to hold them in and put it in a box…. in hindsight I’m a little worried taking the tape off might all peel the paint off too…. we’ll see. Worst-case scenario I might have to touch it up with some red paint next year.

Really well made advent callender. Ive really gone off chocolate advents over the last 5 years so am always on the look out for something a bit different. This one was great for my grandaughter who just enjoyed playing with the magnets lots. I know this will come out every year and become a christmas tradition. If you losse any of the magnets you can replace them with ones of your choice to make it more special.

Really pleased with this wooden advent calendar by Melissa and Doug. Well received and loved by my 3 year old who straight away decorated her Christmas tree. She’s a bit too young to understand the countdown, or rather count up in this case, but decorates and redecorates the tree a few times a day. She also uses it to practice her numbers. It’s a quite attractive toy too, so doesn’t look out of place with other Christmas decorations. I know we will be getting it out at Christmas for many years to come. Good investment.

Great idea as an advent calendar, but the kids have lots of fun just decorating and undecorating the tree. There are a couple areas that could have been reinforced to make it a little sturdier where the decorations are stored, but as it’s only out for a couple months a year, should be fine. The multi-lingual tree does not have the saying/poem on the back of the tree as the English version does, so be aware of the difference

Bought for my 2 year old this Christmas and he doesn’t use it as an advent calendar. It’s been brilliant for him to have his own christmas tree, it gets “redecorated” at least once a day and has helped massively cut down on how much he tries to play with the big christmas tree. He is very conscious that the star is always on the top and will often sing twinkle twinkle whilst putting it there.
The only downside for me is that he’s managed to get one of the baubles in between the bits of my radiator, and because it’s magnetic it’s stuck! It’s fantstic though and I’m sure will be a hit for the next few years when he can start using it as it was intended

This countdown was kind of awesome for Christmas. My toddler loved putting on the decorations and taking them off. He also loved playing with this as a counting game. It’s also very beautiful as a Christmas decoration. That being said, I bought it on sale when it was about eleven bucks and that was a great deal! Wish it had better storage, like say if it opened and kept the magnets inside as the magnets are really easy to lose. Once the magnets are lost, it loses all value.

I just got this product and inspected the whole item. I don’t know why the negative comments, I mean, this product is really nice, love it. Right now it seems sturdy. The magnets work pretty well. I like that it can be reused, unlike the advent calendars.
The reason for the 4 stars is because, there’s room for improvement, and that’s the base part where you put the decorations that you dont use yet. I wish it had a lid. To avoid for the decorations to go missing. Specially when you have to put it away, a lid would be very helpful. Other than that, great item .

I ended up returning this product. Doesn’t have the same quality as other Melissa and Doug products I’ve owned. Magnets stick, but are weak. Also when I opened the package, there was a sticker that ended up ripping up part of the back of the tree. Also on the back of the tree is all the information about it and such that’s not removable so unless you have it flat on a wall, it’s fairly ugly. Disappointed as this could have been a great product.

I used this last year and cannot wait to reuse this year. My daughter was 3 and every morning we got the number and put it on the tree then I wrapped little presents on the tree with the same numbers on for her to find. I’m sure she learnt her numbers by doing this!

My 3 and 6 year old nieces simply love it!
Advantages:
– They learn the numbers
– It does not include unhealthy chocolates or any kind of sweets
– It is fun and numbers are easy to attach since it uses magnets
– Very decorative
– It is a German tradition, very popular in center-European countries: helps kids learn about other countries traditions and embrace other cultures
Disadvantages:
– hmm… none?

Very appreciated by 2 year old grandchild, he his attracted to it at least once a day even though he is too young to actually use it as a countdown calendar to Christmas. He now owns his own Christmas tree and as it is kept besides family tree I am sure it motivates him to decorate and redecorate it. The only drawback is when he pushes a little harder when placing magnetic ornements the tree tips backwards, it would have been useful to add a small folding extension (foot) to the back of the holding box at the bottom to prevent tipping. We have set against the wall for the time being to solve this design flaw.
