One thing people need to be mindful of is that it is somewhat high maintenance. I see a lot of reviews about food getting stuck and issues with rusting. If you don’t apply proper maintanence, these things could easily happen.

I’d re-season the pain as often as I can, that usually keeps food from getting stuck too often. I got the chain scrubber and that seem to make cleaning a little easier. After washing, you must dry it right away, preferably on a heated stove top rather than just wiped dry. Any water left behind will cause it to rust.

I’m terms of cooking, I think it definitely sears better than stainless steel and of course Teflon pans, and personally it makes cooking a little more enjoyable.

I think over time it’ll become easier to maintain. These pans are meant to last a lifetime and if you can commit to taking care of them, I think it’s totally worth it.

I’ve recently switched all of our cookware over to cast iron, although this is the only one without an enamel coating. It seems all other metals and coatings will leach nasties into your food, and this can build up over time. I think the demand for easy and simple solutions means cheap nasty cookware has become such a part of peoples’ lives that companies and governments are willing to turn a blind eye to the risks.
Well I seasoned this at home properly (didn’t do a good job the first time, don’t rush it, do it right!). Even though it comes pre-seasoned, it’s been through factory processing, packing and transport, so who knows what’s on it. And if you haven’t seasoned it well, you’ll have a terrible experience. So my advice is to read (or watch – thanks YouTube) about seasoning carefully. Once you get used to cooking with cast iron you can’t go back – it is heavier than anything I’ve used before, you need to control the heat a bit more carefully, and you can’t just leave it on the side and clean it in the morning – but the results speak for themselves.
As I recently went vegan, I also wanted something that would help boost the iron in my diet a bit. ALL metal cookware, and anything coated with anything but enamel, seems to leach metals or chemicals into your food – but for cast iron this is the only metal which is actually a good thing!
This isn’t difficult to clean once you get used to it, it’s just different. I use only warm water, and occasionally plain salt if there’s something a bit stubborn on there, and never let it completely cool down. I forgot once, and the next morning had to properly scrub everything off and season it all over again. As it’s cast iron, it holds heat very well, so it doesn’t cool in just a few minutes.

There’s a reason why lodge has been making cast iron skillets for 120+ years. They’re good at it!
The pre-seasoning is good. The skillet is smooth. It’s heavy. The heat distribution is good even with a cheap induction plate. It stays hot. Doesn’t warp. Easy to clean and keep in good condition.
I usually clean it with only hot water and a good brush. Warm it back up enough to evaporate the water and recoat with a bit of oil.
Is it a bit expensive? yes a little. But it’s most likely the last 12″ pan you’ll buy! except for maybe a deeper 12″ skillet… which I did. And yes the deep skillet is also a Lodge.

Well, the pan arrived in super-quick time as always via Amazon – thank you! It didn’t come in a Lodge box, just wrapped in bubble-wrap and in an Amazon box, so I was a little concerned at first. However, I needn’t have been as it was in perfect condition. Like others on here, I have watched numerous videos on utube explaining about the seasoning process and despite the pan being pre-seasoned, I went ahead and did it again myself. Please note, it will smoke your kitchen out so make sure it is ventilated!!! Anyway, I had plans to use it that evening and just by coincidence, I was cooking eggs, which some people seem to have had a problem with. Well all I can say is that mine didn’t stick at all; I’d already cooked up some sausages and a few rashers of streaky bacon so the eggs were the last in. They were perfect, in fact, they slid around in the pan when I tipped it up. To season, I used avocado oil and then gave it a light coating before I cooked. I am already in love with this pan and can’t wait to cook a steak in it! I’m not sure about the negative reviews on here, maybe those people are doing something wrong, but I can’t fault it and it will certainly be getting plenty of use. Love it!

been using for 2-3 weeks now. size is
perfect, fit 2 big steaks on it. this lodge cast iron is definitely worth the money. keep in mind this is not a regular pan, so do some research before buying it otherwise you’ll be here bitchin’ it rusted. good news is there’s tons of videos on how to keep nice and seasoned and it’s actually really easy.

This is the first cast iron pan i used since i was a kid, many years ago.
Difference is know i know how to clean and season it which is important.
Having read reveiws before buying it.
I learned that the base can have the tiny casting bumps removed with an electric sander. This is great, because food particles cant stick between them anymore. Then simply clean it well with mild soap, pour in a little vegetable oil, heat the pan. When you use the pan a little butter helps prevent any sticking.
I also read that using a putty knife to help clean after cooking was a good thing…and having tried this out, i can vouch for its effectiveness.
Even after cooking bacon i use the same pan for the eggs…which in my childhood experiences was a taboo. (Mom never had a putty knife in our kitchen. Simply scrap bacon remnants off the pan, remove the grease and scrapings wipe with a paper towel (or not) a little dab of butter and the eggs slide easily.
These are great pans that solve the mystery behind deciding what pan to use.
Before buying cast pans here, i bought some coated pans at costco a 10″ and a 12″…mind you, they dont get used anymore being stored in the kitchen they take up space.
For the last 2.5 years i had the Heritage Rock pans…in time food starts to stick and they can not be seasoned like cast iron so they dont last.
Great pans to last forever at a decent price!
Following the above suggestions you wont be dissappointed with these cast pans!!
Use them for everything, keep the heat under control and all is good
I hope this is helpful….these are plain and simply great pans!
    Happy camper, enjoy!

I tend to only buy that with which I am already familiar and like. Lodge cast iron is a classic. Although pre-seasoned, I gave it a thorough 5-cycle additional deep seasoning with flaxseed oil so that it is indeed truly non-stick. Only observation is that due to a different manufacturing process, these pans have a pebbled textured surface — unlike the very smooth slick surface of my grandmother’s era.

Was a gift to my son-in-law, along with the 10 1/2″ size pan. He loves to cook and was using them both by the very next day doing a large breakfast on the stove top and then keeping it all hot in the oven. He loves them! Was very impressed with the quality of the pans. The only negative I have to say…..HOW they were shipped directly from the manufacturer, not Amazon. The two pans (and we all know how heavy cast iron pans are) were COMPLETELY LOOSE in a huge box about 3′ x 2′ x 6″ deep. Inside the box, besides the very heavy pans for protection was…..two small pieces of brown paper that were just lying in the box. No bubble wrap; NOTHING on the pans themselves; no anything. Needless to say, the pans were clashing against each other even though the UPS guy was carrying the box as carefully as possible. So product excellent; shipping was terrible. My 5 stars are strictly for the product.

The pan warps easy the oils and juices tend to drain to the edges of the pan when cooking.
It is not the easiest to clean,it is especially tough to remove baked on food.

they recommend boiling water in the pan for 5 to 10 minutes after use to remove baked on food, I m happy to say it does work in cleaning the pan. I use a putty knife to clean also.

Put a Little vegetable oil in the pan after cleaning to preserve the pan

Bit of oil and worked straight away, despite all the friends that said we needed to say three incantations, sand it down and bath in the blood of our first born, it worked with oil and heat. Magic food.
