Bought this after listening to the Thomasina Miers Off Menu podcast. Was not disappointed.

Good solid item, however the little felt sits on the feet aren’t sufficient enough to protect the worktop..
Unfortunately seasoning the mortar and pestle has damaged the worktop.
So make sure you use a wooden board or something underneath when using!!
Other that that, the size and quality is pretty good..
Didn’t however receive the avocado tool! Boo!

I bought this one so I would not need to run small batches.
The bowl doesn’t move when I use it.
The pestle fit in my larger than average hands.

Arrived in beautiful condition. Very heavy and solid. Can see years of use for this. It’s very large, soda can in pictures for reference of size. Avocado knife came included.

Do not listen to the people giving low ratings because they are having small granite dust particles when using. Excuse the pun but they are unseasoned in using a traditional stone mortar and pestle. YOU ARE MEANT TO PREP IT BEFORE USING IT. Like a cast iron pan, you need to prepare it or “season” before use. This means smoothing and grinding it down. Look up tutorials on YouTube. After that, you’ll be good to go and able to use this amazing tool!

I love it good size I’ve brought 3 from Amazon Mexico ones. And the rest brought it from Indonesia back home. We called cobek make from Lava rock or you can buy from clay. I just like made from rock so doesn’t Broken easy

As soon as I took it out of the box I thought wow, I am a newly qualified chef and I am of Jamaican origin. Therefore making jerk seasoning is a weekly necessity. My old pestle was from that famous supermarket M sons and nothing wrong with it but it just could not do volume, until now Umien you need a star, yes it takes time to seasons, but so does all good food. If you are thinking about a pestle and mortar, STOP and by one of these. three thing I like about my new kitchen, my Smeg range my Smeg hood and my Umien pestle and mortar 10/10

I love how the seasoning instructions are included directly on the box, it makes it incredibly easy to follow and know what to do. It’s huge, and it’s truly a great product

When I lived in India, I had a fantastic granite patta and roller but now I’m back in Britain, I’ve not been able to get one, so bought this molcajete as a substitute. While I cannot use it grind my spices and paste by rolling, it nevertheless does a fantastic job of pounding and grinding. I wouldn’t be without it now!
It was really easy to prepare for use; I started by grinding raw rice mixed with a little water, then seasoned it with garlic and rock salt. After a couple of hours (I did it while watching a film!), it was smooth enough to use, with no loose or dusty bits of stone left. To clean it, I just run it under warm water, and wipe it over with a damp cloth. No need to use detergent of any type. Smells do not linger!
This is great value for money, and I highly recommend it!
