so here it is – ive read the reviews, ive purchased TWO of these, and here is what to expect:
to install – product shows up with pre-soldered wires that you must attach your own battery connectors to.
to use – plug in and go, don’t forget to unplug since this wire is hot 100% of the time or you will drain your battery. i really wish they had integrated at least a toggle switch to avoid this.
durability – DO NOT GET WET! this product, despite being semi-permanently attached to your bike, CANNOT GET WET! if you allow the part that inserts into the Garmin to get wet enough times, IT WILL CORRODE AND FAIL. i cannot understate this enough – another massive oversight was not to include some sort of protective cover for when the bike is getting washed or rained on.

Factory cord works as expected

The wire harness worked out really well, took the dash apart on a 2011 Ram 1500 and wired it to the keyed on and off power point socket in the centre console, now the gps turns on and off with the ignition key.

I ordered this to replace one I had installed 7 years ago. The inline rectifier that steps the current down fried and was no longer powering my GPS. Rewired the new cable and it works again and originally installed.
I was initially skeptical about ordering from amazon as what was shown in the picture did not match what I was looking for by part number. When I received it I was happy to see it was the 2 wire version as shown on Garmin’s site and not the 4 wire version pictured. Trust the part number listed and not the picture.

Bought this for my Garmin 65. Works fine to power the unit, and looks like a clean install.
FYI this doesn’t have the live traffic built into the cable like the original so you will get an alert everytime the unit powers on. Kind of annoying but the cable poweres the unit as intended.

As others have said it’s pricey…..but it’s also OEM Garmin so you can expect quality. Perfect for a hardwire to a Motorcycle or car/truck. Works like it should. You can save a few bucks by going with a different brand but at the end of the day why not buy the original for $10 more?

Es el segundo que compro, el primero solo a durado un año, espero este dure más, mientras a funcionado, sin problema

This was good quality but it is the old sub plug which does not work for the newer dashcams. It needs to be micro sub. By the time I got around to installing it and found out it was wrong the return window was over

I use my Garmin on our motorcycles and need to hard wire into the system because a cigarette lighter type connection always vibrates loose. I bought several aftermarket adapters, which have always worked fine, but eventually vibrated loose internally and then they break the internal wiring and quit working. This OEM device from Garmin looks very durable and I expect it to last much better. The voltage converter part of the cord is very small and looks to be more of a solid state device without the small circuit board that comes loose in the aftermarket adapters. I am delighted with this, and expect it to be much less expensive in the long run.

So I wanted a hard wire for my new truck. Ordered it and installed it on my Nuvi 2699 LMT HD. Fine, it turns on and off just like my 12V plug does without the wires visible. The part that earns this only one star is it doesn’t support the traffic feature that the Nuvi has. So even though it powers the unit just fine your high dollar Garmin unit is basically useless if all of it’s features don’t work. WTH Garmin!? Too cheap to install an antenna?! This is $10 more that the plug in power cord, but with half the features. What a ripoff. Buyer BEWARE

For years I’ve had my Garmins plugged into a “cigarette” style outlet on my motorcycle. Due to the location of the outlet I had about 4′ of wire bundled on my handlebars. Vibrations would cause it to occasionally come loose, and once during a rainstorm the gps quit working because of water collecting inside the outlet. When I saw this was working for some folks on their car-style gps units I figured I’d give it a try.
It arrived quickly and had about 5′ of wire, which was perfect for my installation. I tested it before mounting and it works great. After wiring it to a switched accessory wire it now comes on when I start the bike up, and goes off when I turn the bike off. Garmin 50LM.
The wires are decent gauge with the ends coming already tinned. The majority of the wiring is covered in a wrapping that looks great, protects the wire and looks nice. It also comes fused. The output reads “5 volt/500ma”.
