While towing our Travel trailer we found after driving 4 or 5 hours our GPS would go into “limp” mode (black screen), probably because our brake controller is on the same line as the GPS. GPS would have to be plugged into our computer to charge it up. Bought this AC charger to fully charge our GPS before setting out as well as after we arrive. It works well with no more “limp” mode on the GPS.

Most of the time you won’t need this adapter for your Garmin GPS, but if you’re traveling and you want to set up the next day’s route in your hotel room, this device is mandator since the USB cord that comes with the Garmin will not charge from your laptop. Well worth the money.

I insured that I located the correct item number from the original charger and ordered the AC charger for my unit. However, when I received the item, it did not have the same type connector and the original Garmin GPS will not charge with this item. I would prefer to give ZERO stars, since I would NOT have ordered the item had I known it would not be an exact match to the item I need. This is very disappointing, since I will be travelling this weekend and NEED my “charged” GPS.

This Garmin AC Adapter for the Kit works perfectly, however, the USB Data Cable between the device and computer does not fit in back of the Garmin Drive Smart 61. I ordered this kit specifically for the DATA cable part, now I will have to order a proper USB cable. The Amazon advertisement, specifically says this kit is compatible with the Drive Smart 61 LMT-S, however, when you read the BOX itself, is says fits SOME Garmin devices. The Box does not give ONE model name of a Garmin device, it is either compatible with or not compatible. In my eyes, this is deceiving for the consumer. The Advertisement should be proven before it is published online. My other complaint, is TRY TO FIND a USB data cable specifically for the Drive Smart 61, it is difficult to find, now I’m not sure who to trust and not waste my money. I can still use the AC adaptor portion as a backup. I will be leaving town soon, and now I don’t have time to reorder, and do not have a way to update my maps on my laptop. I do not trust Wifi in motels, and will NOT attempt to Update my maps from the Garmin Update option, using motel Wifi on the road… I don’t usually have problems with Amazon orders, a rare event, but this product with its contents, WAS NOT TESTED on a Garmin Drive Smart 61, using the USB Data cable.

J’ai bien reçu ma commande mais un problème concernant le chargeur les fiches plates spéciales pour la Grande Bretagne hors je réside en France les fiches sont rondes et non plates. Je souhaiterai recevoir simplement le support correspondant au chargeur comme indiqué sur la photo. Merci de me tenir informer. Je tiens expressément à recevoir la bonne fiche francaise pour l’utilisation du chargeur.

Charging the garmin GPS units by USB and or relying on your car lighter connection is not a great solution to achieving a fully charged device in a timely manner. So, having the ability to plug the GPS unit into the wall and charge it faster that way is definitely recommended.

Bought this for a Garmin 51 LM and charges fast. After connecting together and plugging into AC wall socket, had to turn off GPS so screen is blank (it will NOT show a “charging battery” symbol but it is charging). My GPS was almost completely drained and this charged it to full internal battery power in less than an hour.
