The computer proper is fine. I do with the “refurbishing” included blowing the dust bunnies out of the case. The processor heat sink was partially clogged, and clouds of dust came out of the power supply when I blew into it. Clearly, the computer had not been renewed in any significant way. But it worked fine, so there’s that. My main disappointment was the SSD which was brand new. Actually, it was a no-brand drive; there was no manufacturer data. Googling the part number turned up nothing. All I can tell is that it was “made in China.” I have no way of assessing whether I should trust my data to it or not. The 1 TB hard disk was an enterprise Toshiba drive. Such drives are built like tanks and designed for 24-7 service in data centers. All good–except that used drives of this sort have usually been used in data centers 24-7. The date on the drive was 2011, so it’s life expectancy isn’t something I would care to bet on. But who knows? I didn’t check the SMART data to see what the actual usage was. If I do that later, I’ll edit this post. My point is that one should not expect that the drives from this refurbisher will be a significant part of the value of the machine. The unit did come with a authentic copy of Window’s 10 for refurbished computers installed on the SSD. All in all, it’s an okay machine, but the refurbisher needs to do more than install a couple of drives before certifying the machine as “renewed.” At least get the dust out of the processor heatsink. Sheesh. Also, I ordered the machine on June 20th, and it arrived on July 10th–3 weeks! Apparently, this was the shipper’s fault, not the sellers.

I needed a PC for amateur music production (not rapping) and I stumbled upon this and had to give it a try. Seems to work pretty great so far. I’m not a big tech guy but so I can’t hit you with any slick terminology or specs on what the processor is doing but so far my biggest project has been 12 tracks with multiple effects on each and several buses with effects and compression over the whole project. No hick ups or troubles at all and I’m using a USB interface (Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen). The only problem I’ve run into is one of the USB 2.0 ports is defective but I’m sure this could be fixed by contacting the supplier. It may work for a keyboard or something like that but I plugged my interface in and got crackling through my speakers with this port only. I’m using both display ports with no issues and I’ve used the vga with the same results. Fan isn’t exceptionally quiet but hasn’t been a problem. Very clean inside. Only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the USB port I mentioned. Sorry for the horrible lack of formatting but I’d definitely recommend this.

In addition to the extra customs duties at the Canadian border which doubled the price of this refurbed computer, the computer arrived with a Kingston 120GB SSD as the boot drive on which Windows 10 Home Pro was installed and a second hard drive as well. The computer booted the first time and I configured Windows but the second time, no such luck. I tried a few more times and got it to boot into Windows once more but not again. I opened the case and found what you see in the photos: the SSD drive was damaged when it was installed and it was damaged right beside the power connector. UPDATE: I contacted the Seller and they reimbursed me for the cost of purchasing a new SSD so the Seller was very responsive and helpful.

UPDATE June 14, 2020: the computer is STILL running great! I use it 30-40 hours each week and after almost a year after purchase, no problems at all. I haven’t had to replace anything. It’s incredible considering it’s a refurb! I’ve been gaming with it and i’m able to keep up with some of my friends running much more powerful machines than this one. I wouldn’t recommend this computer for newer games, but I run older games (pre 2012) and it works just fine. Fans still work great, no rattling and the OS updates regularly with no issues. I’ve easily gotten my money back, many times over.
UPDATE Oct 5, 2019: the computer is still running great after 4 months of heavy use. You never know how buying a used computer will turn out and this exceeded all my expectations!!!! I’ll probably update in a year or if it has any problems.
Update July 7, 2019: the wifi dongle that was included was slow; I was getting 5mps download. I upgraded to a $23 PCI wifi card from Amazon and I’m now seeing speeds of 125mps. So far, the computer is holding up well. It’s still a fast and quiet machine. I’ve been playing old games. The integrated video card can handle old school HalfLife 2 and Minecraft easily. I haven’t installed anything modern, but will soon.
This PC includes a solid state drive. Avoid defragging often because it puts excessive wear on the drive. It’s not needed. Overall this machine boots up in seconds. Surprisingly this keeps up well with my overpriced Apple MacBook pro.
I’m changing my review of 4 stars to 5 stars. At around $300 you really can’t find a better refurbished PC. I’m considering buying a second.
June 29, 2019: just unpacked. The case is like new; very little wear. Everything seems intact. Will update as I explore the machine.

**Edited June 28th 2021** I bumped my score up to 3 stars because the company did refund me enough money to buy the RAM elsewhere. I appreciate that. I just hope they learn from these reviews and take a little more care when prepping a shipment in the future as time wasted is something that is not easy to replace **
The computer itself was fine. It is clean and functions great and I had no trouble activating Windows and getting it up and running. The problem was it shipped with only one 4GB stick of RAM instead of the 16GB I paid for. I’ve spent two weeks trying to resolve the issue and their latest communication is that they tried to send me the RAM but it was returned to them by USPS. However. they offer no proof of this, even after telling me they’d get a tracking number but then didn’t. Their latest offer is a partial refund but unless it’s for almost a third the value of the whole package, that refund does me little good as memory, like CPU’s and Graphics Cards right now, are in short supply and inflated prices. Ironically, the cheapest available right now is right here, on Amazon. I’d also have to either match the RAM with the stick I have or buy a whole new 16GB kit. I mean, it’s not hard to count the number of modules installed on the board before packing and shipping it. Now i have a gimped system that has barely enough RAM to function while I try and figure this out. The other minor issues I have with the system are the included keyboard and mouse are junk. They went right into the spare parts box. And the included DVD/CD combo drive is a laptop type unit, with no motorized tray action. It’s a mid tower, so why the super slim drive installed in a case with huge amount of extra space?

Running flight sim on this computer, works ok but the system is maxed out already. Has a good base as long as your gaming doesn’t use too much memory to run, have decided to use this computer for video only and my other one for running the program works much better. But a good value computer overall

Replaced an HP Windows 7 pro machine. Working great so far. Has both a hard drive and SSD. Fast i5 chip. I am a little disappointed that I had to install the Wifi (USB) adapter, would have preferred pre-installed. But then look at the great LOW price! Comes with non-HP keyboard and mouse. Thanks.

This desktop is great for your $300, The i5 has 4 cores, contrary to the description, and is slightly overclocked out of the box to 3.5Ghz at idle. The integrated graphics card is Intel’s HD 4600. It has 16GB of ddr3 dual channel @798MHz ram. The motherboard is Hewlett-Packard’s 18E4 (SOCKET 0), the unit I was shipped needed a BIOS update to install any more modern hardware. The cooling is very quiet, but the CPU fan tower cooler underperforms causing overheating in the i5. It has support for DP and VGA cables only. It has one open PCI-E x16 slot for a graphics card. it does not come with built-in wifi support. The SSD I was shipped had 111GBs instead of 120GBs, and the HDD had only 931GBs of storage. The power supply is 320 watts and has no cables included for GPU’s, but extra power cables for more storage, it has 5 usable SATA ports, but only 2 data transfer cables. This machine is great for internet browsing and decent for light office work. Its only blue screened once in 6 months so it is good there. It is usable for Gaming, but barely so, running Minecraft or Roblox will be fine, and fortnite will be playable for those people. Modern titles will boot but will give you 440p at 25fps on low graphics. upgrading your GPU to gtx 1050 ti or gtx 1650 which need no external power connectors will make it great for a budget gamer, delivering 1080p @60 fps with medium graphics on modern titles, like Sea of Thieves(for you few fans). Enjoy, I apologize for my misuse of tech jargon.

The website for the computer I received read….

Don’t know who wrote this but it wasn’t apparently communicated to Sunset Micro. I’ve purchased
Microsoft Authorized Refurbished Computers before. Never disappointed The computer received from Sunset Micro looked like it was taken from under a desk… after many years… and stuck in a box that was laying round… a label stuck on… and out the door.
Amazon has a vendor relation problem with Sunrise Micro that needs their immediate attention.
