The splitter allows you to use either of the two feeds but NOT together since the splitter introduces a significant and unbearable delay in the sound between the two outputs. As a result there is a terrible echo effect which makes listening impossible. I wanted to use my headphones for speech clarity but also leave the sound bar on for a fuller experience. The echo between the two makes this impossible. I have to use EITHER the headphones OR the sound bar, but not both.

My TV has only 1 optical out port & I wanted to use a wireless headphone as well as a sound bar.
This adapter works every well.
I suggest you support the unit by attaching it to a nearby cable with a zap-strap.

Easy to set up, good sound, reasonable price, used to double up optical output from an LG TV to a Sony handy TV speaker and wireless head phones. Too early for durability comment, only had a few weeks . I think maybe some people having problems may not have removed the tiny caps from the cable ends, easily overlooked.

It allows us to split the optical audio output to enable hearing assistance devices and normal volume speakers. Everyone is the house is happy.. No more turn it up, I can’t hear, and no more please turn it down, it’s too loud. Note that this allows splitting of signal to a hearing aid base station that enables the hearing aid wearer to independently adjust the volume to a level that does not disrupt others.

I use two TOSLINK sources (TV and CD player) into this device then into my DAC. It works fine provided that only one of the devices is outputting a signal at a time. Make sure only one device is turned on. Check your own devices by looking into the end of the fiber when the device is turned off – if you see red, this won’t work. If it’s dark, it’ll be fine. (Looking into the end while a device i turned on is safe – TOSLINK uses a low-power LED light, not a laser.)

This didn’t work on my Samsung TV, returned for refund.

Great product for splitting audio output on a tv. I used this splitter to hook up an external sound bar and a bluetooth headset receiver to my tv, allowing me to use either the speaker or headphones without unplugging anything. There was no audio lag behind the video (with either the speaker or headphones), which was my biggest concern when purchasing this. Just a note that I was using low-latency headphones designed for tv viewing, so if someone wanted to make a similar setup, they would need low-latency bluetooth headphones.
Overall I am very satisfied with this splitter and would recommend it to others.

The male end falls out very easily. I had to very carefully shift my device around as I was setting everything up or else it would fall out and it would put me back at square one. The female ends on the other end holds my optical cables very tightly. Once everything was set up and I didn’t have to move my devices around, tested both optical sources and they work beautifully.
If the male connector stayed in the entire time it would have gotten full stars from me.

Worst fitting connection, just falls out.

I used the device to split the optical sound signal from my television. The TV has only one optical sound outlet and I needed to split the signal in order to direct sound to a Widex TV Play device. It permits folks wearing Widex hearing aids to get the sound directly into their ears for better sound clarity. Other viewers can still hear the sound directly from the TV or through the sound bar. Everyone wins. Technologically challenged folks should not feel intimidated using this device – it is easily set up if one follows the instructions from the manufacturer.

I returned it for a full refund as it simply did not work on my system, a Samsung smart TV.

I can now have an Optical in and Optical out for my 5,1 sound system.
Ideal.

Product is of very low quality.
Signal was degraded too much for my application and was only able to function intermittently. Your mileage may vary depending on the sensitivity of your equipment and the quality of the mirror in your particular unit.
Plastic molding is not keyed properly, in fact, it’s not keyed at all which yields a sloppy fit for toslink cables.
Overall, very disappointed with the product and would not recommend.
Will be purchasing a powered (Active) optical splitter.
