I will probably update this later, but first impressions are mixed.
First problem: It didn’t even ship until more than a week after I ordered it. Annoying, but it did say “USUALLY ships in 3-5 days”.
Second problem: As others have mentioned, it was missing a vital part- two supports are needed when it’s folded out as a bed, and it was missing one. It can still be used as a sofa without both, we just put the one we had in front, but we ordered a futon, not a sofa.
    Now for the pros:
It’s not very heavy. Actually, the mattress is heavier than this frame.
It was easy to assemble (minus the missing part).
Without a mattress, it’s easy to fold up and down. With an 8 inch coil mattress, at least at first, it’s very difficult to fold back up to a sofa.
I ordered the parts replacement easily online and received confirmation that it should arrive within 7 days, despite trying to call the company to order and being told they are “closed for the holidays” (on June 24th).
Overall I believe this is a great quality sturdy frame and an excellent value- It’s unfortunate that the delivery experience has given me a negative first impression.

I have been using the frame for 4 years and it still functions great. It looks cool and minimalistic. I use it in my common room with without shame. The assembly was easy and maintenance of the fittings has been at long intervals and easy. The coating is very durable and has not scratched or marred.
My negatives are the instructions are non-existent and I have just now noticed I put the sides on backwards (well one should not drink and assemble at 3am also). Most importantly my previous version had a support leg in the middle of the front and this one does not. The couch and bed mode will tip if the edge is sat on, especially at the most awkward times and dump the occupant on the floor, so that must be remedied with a support. I chose a brick under the centre strengthening support and it looks a bit family den style and falls over as the bed/couch flexes due to movement occupant movement or being kicked (it is a toe foe). The support should be attached. The next negative is that it does squeak and make other noises with any movement making even rolling over or getting off of the bed/couch an announced event. Switching modes with the mattress I bought is almost a two person effort
Oh, it is not designed for a cotton futon but a mattress which was fine with me as I wanted better support. I chose a

and have been ecstatic about that selection.

The quality is fine. Don’t rely on the cheap throw away allen wrench and 1/2″ wrench- definitely use your own tools.
    It is sturdy.
The main con about this is it is a pain in the a** to close. It will not fold and my futon is on the lighter side. It will just slide across the floor. It takes both of us to close it every time and utterly frustrating as it slides across the floor, even with my foot pushing down in the middle. Hate this, but not disassembling, repackaging, and shipping. Stuck with it.
UPDATE: I have used this twice and again, it is a nightmare. I am 5’10” and pretty strong. This thing sucks… I did put it together correctly. The back no longer stays up. It sits at a 45 degree angle. I had to dump the mattress off, and dump the frame and push with most of my might to get the frame to return to (sort of) normal upright position.

I just finished building the frame and I’m very happy with my purchase. It looks nice, seems sturdy, and it was very easy to build. I can definitely understand some of the complaints people have about structural integrity and it being difficult to close. But I believe the breakage problems may be avoidable and it is definitely possible to easily close the frame by yourself (and I’m a smallish person) if you use a different method than is described in the directions.

    BUILDING THE FRAME
I can now understand why some people might experience sagging and breakage in the frame well below its designed weight limit: there are several possible ways to incorrectly install the seat that would be VERY easy to do by mistake without even realizing it. — I almost did it myself.

–It is critical to pay attention to the orientation of the SEAT FRAME (O) relative to the BARS (Q) in step three. The wire mesh of the seat frame must be supported by the bars when installed (so that the bars are below the mesh) or else when someone sits on the futon the seat’s wire mesh could warp or break away from the rest of the seat frame due to lack of support.

–When you install the SEAT FRAME SUBASSEMBLY (O) in step 4 make sure you don’t accidentally grab the BACK FRAME (M). The back frame doesn’t have the same BARS (Q) to lend support to the wire mesh and won’t support someone sitting on it in the same way. This does seem like a design flaw because it assumes that someone won’t sit on the back frame of the futon when it is in an open position to be used as a bed. (As you probably would if you were sitting up in bed to read with your back against a wall OR if you had the frame pulled away from a wall and sat on the edge of the futon like you might to tie your shoes.)

–Also in step four, the wire mesh of the FRAME SUBASSEMBLY (O) must be oriented on top as shown in the bolt detail or else it could warp or break away from the rest of the seat frame.

    CLOSING THE FRAME
When I went to close up the frame, like many others I found it extremely difficult. Impossible actually, at least using the method shown in the directions. It helps to have two people: one person to lift up on the seat back, and one to lift and push in the seat. You do NOT push downward on the middle of futon seat (toward the floor), this doesn’t seem to help. Instead push in on the edge of the frame, parallel to the plane of the the futon seat and floor. I did find a way to do this solo: As another reviewer said already, it is possible to pull up on the back of the futon and push in on the seat of the futon (again, parallel to the floor/seat not perpendicular to it). Being a smallish person I have to stand near the futon arms (or the head of the bed) in order to do this — but it IS possible.

I don’t recommend this item due to the low quality manufacturing of the materials. The unit I received has bad welds on the lower frame piece that supports body weight when seated. This piece has tubes welded to the outer frame. One of the main tubes only has weld around roughly 40% of the tube perimeter. The other main load bearing tube has weld around 100% of its perimeter, so I assume this obvious manufacturing defect passed quality inspection…if there is one. My unit will eventually break due to this bad weld. When will that happen? Who knows.

Also, note that pictures currently posted on Amazon for this item show a different assembly than the instructions recommend. In the pictures currently posted for this frame, the arms are shown in a reversed position (flat sides out), whereas the instructions indicated to assemble the frame with the flat sides in.The other sides of the arms are not flat. They have a recessed channel that follows the arc. Also, the handles on the lower frame that hold the mattress in place are actually assembled so they are perpendicular to the bottom frame piece (so they keep the mattress from sliding), not parallel to the frame as shown in the current pictures.

Look to another brand for a futon frame. The DHP mattress I ordered with this frame seems to be of good design and quality, but DHP futon frames? Pass on those.
