Impressive size and heft… Keep that in mind!

These are well suited to stargazing on a tripod and quick daytime pick up and quick look at terrestrial objects. You’re not going hiking with these unless you want a serious workout!

The image in the eyepieces, once tuned to your eyes (set up the diopter and interpupillary distance) the image of Venus was a clear crescent and the moon gained depth and amazing detail!

One note – I found I had to push the focus past a ‘block’ on the threads to get to infinity(ish) to get Venus into focus, but once done, it focuses smoothly back out.

Protection for the unit is OK – eyecup and lense caps are very good. The case is a soft bag as pictured and will only protect against scuffs. You must remain vigilant against bumps even in the bag – a hard case would have been preferred, but would have certainly jumped the price up…

    I would buy these again.

My regular bird watching binoculars (Bushnell 10×42) are terrific for casual moon, planet and galaxy gazing. My Celestron 20×80 refractor telescope with several eyepieces is fantastic for close-up viewing. I’m ambivalent about the 20×80 binoculars for stargazing. They are heavy. I use a monopod and sit in a chair to look at the heavens. Forget about handheld. Yeah, I get more lunar detail, and can see the moons of Jupiter and Saturn’s rings. Andromeda is pretty clear. But, honestly, while this is an excellent kit for long-range terrestrial viewing, I’d not buy it for stargazing. It’s a product that is neither here nor there: too big for hiking with, too weak for serious astronomy.

My first Astro-binos and I am delighted. You do need a tripod for them though as they are heavy. Image quality is excellent and i only wish we had more clear skies! Easy to use and the only gripe I have is that the case they come with is very flimsy – a more sturdy case would be better to protect the binos.

Superb. They pick out all the detail on the Moon that the photos in my Moongazing for Idiots book show.
If you’re built like the proverbial, they can be used without a tripod for scenic views, yachts and ships etc, but even for a hefty unit like myself, I’m happy giving my arms a rest every now and then, and when I do hold them up I find it useful to tuck my arms in so that my elbows are resting on my torso to create a quasi support frame. Most people I’m sure would be more comfortable with a tripod, especially for astronomy – I use a Hama Star 63, available from all good Amazon outlets near you. Handheld for astronomy with these is a complete no-no – Jupiter simply refuses to stay put and be observed.
Easily focusable, and the tripod mount can be adjusted laterally to get a good balance before tightening everything up.

Bought with a little hesitation due to the extra price but happy I did.
Build quality is excellent , covers stay put and happy that I could add a separate red dot finder (mounting clip supplied )
    Tripod is a must.

I’ve had these for two weeks now and every night has been overcast so can’t yet say how well they work as astronomical binos. However, when trying them out on solid tripod on land, the magnification is awesome but can’t seem to get them focus to anything near sharp enough to see details. I’ve tried with reading glasses as suggested but made it worse. I have a pair of Celestron 10×32 which focus brilliantly, but the 20×80 can’t even come close… Any ideas to sharpen the focus?

A week later: Finally got some clear skies and wow, OK, now we’re talking! For the first time in my life I have seen the rings of Saturn in an eye piece. Though not crystal clear, you can nonetheless see the bulges of the rings on the planet. Other celestial bodies come in nicely. Ans yes, a rock solid tripod is a must. As for the aforementioned focusing issues at distance ground targets may well just be atmospheric disturbances etc.

I use these at the shore to spot aquatic wildlife (birds, seals, ships) and the night sky. Though these are my first pair of astronomical binauculars, I’m quite impressed.

Great binoculars. It is rather heavy so a tripod is recommended. Have had some great views of the moon in the ew days I’ve had them. Not yet had a chance to go to a dark spot to check out other solar system objects.

Very clear views of the moon and also able to see Jupiter and it’s four moons. They can be used without tripod but you need a very steady had. Bought a tripod to mount them on and also the celestron finderscope. Once mounted viewing is nice and stable. The binoculars are very large but no too heavy. Views are crystal clear once the diopters are set up then dial in the focus wheel. Definitely a good purchase.

I wanted a pair of binoculars to harbour watch from my balcony, which ranges from 8 to 15 km’s away ( 5 – 8 miles). I wanted to step up a notch and get something like these “Bad Boys”. They are awesome. It is possible to discern people on the bridge of a freighter if there is sun light flowing through it. They are not light. Don’t be fooled by some spry outdoor enthusiast who jaunts up and down mountain vale to watch birds and gets chased by other wild life. Unless you have a daily work out for your arms and shoulders I would kindly recommend a decent mount such as the Orion 5378 which I am also very pleased with. Enjoy!

For the money I think these are great binoculars. I am no expert but, I have had a few pairs of cheap binoculars and a very good pair of Nikons, so I know the difference between poor optics and good and my experience is that these are right up there close to the Nikons. They give a nice sharp image . I can easily read a road sign at over 300m. They are heavy for off hand use and require a tripod for stable image quality. The overall build quality appears very good and the tripod mount is of great quality.
The one thing that is a little troublesome are the eye cups. They will fall off if rubbed against clothing or your face and can easily be lost.
    I definitely recommend these binoculars.

Just received my Binoculars. Couldn’t wait to try them even at – 11 Celcius. (12 F) I observed the moon with them. I saw details that couldn’t be viewed with regular binoculars. Shadows, craters, mountains are tack sharp ! I used a chair for my observation, that way when the binoculars were on the tripod I could see, in a confortable posture. Yes! they are heavy but not as I imagined.I will definately buy a plastic case with foam to protect them. Can’t wait for warmer temperature !

Excellent binocular for deep sky astronomy. Well collimated and stars look nice and sharp in the centre.

Well worth the asking the price.
