Danke

I kind of expected a more noticeable bass from other reviews, it’s alright I guess and a little better than my last mini stereo but not as much as bass as I’d thought so I assume the cheaper one must have no bass. Clear sound and goes pretty loud, I’ll update on battery life as time goes on but for now it’s a decent product for price.

Edit to say the battery life on this thing is phenomenal, I charged it twice in 12 days of daily use, this little stereo works forever! Will say it’s a little difficult to notice when it is running low unless you see the small red flashing light but still worked when I had it plugged in and charging so that’s a bonus.

    Ok…. don’t every try this….
I was rushing doing my laundry 3 days before my vacation and somehow my sound core 2 was folded over and ended up in the washing machine….. FOR THE FULL NORMAL CYCLE…. I heard some noise but did not bother checking the machine as I was busy with other chores….. I unloaded the machine and was horrified….. my speaker was in the washing machine.
I turned it on and it still had a charge… I shut it off and put in a pot of rice to dry off.
I immediately ordered another one on prime as I wanted have one for my trip. I returned from my vacation …. turned the original one on …. and it works fine…

I would not recommend this test…. but hey…. its still working

I have good quality headphones attached to my iMac and use them most of the time. They are permanently plugged in. I also have in-ear headphones for my ipad. I wanted a speaker for those times when I did not want to or cannot use headphones e.g. listening to radio, working in the garage etc.. I like clear, detailed, balanced sound, not overly bright or boomy and was tempted to buy these by all the claims for great sound.

For web based radio, Youtube instructional videos and other non-demanding applications I hear some sibilance but nothing really objectionable. Music shows the limitations of these speakers. They are not boomy, which was a fear, nor are they overly bright but mid ranges are muddy, vocals are sometimes recessed into the backround and there is a lack of detail but at this price point it is unfair to expect too much and they do sound as good as some more expensive speakers I have heard.

I would agree with what others have said about the quality of construction, battery life, bluetooth connectivity, range etc but I would not say they have great sound, they do not. Many reviews make note of how loud they are and the amount of bass. If those properties are important to you I think you will be happy with the Soundcore 2 but if you expect something more balanced, detailed and musical you need to spend more money. For this price and for my usage they are perfectly OK and are probably as good as some more expensive speakers. Use them for background music or radio but not for serious listening.

EDIT. My experience with Anker customer support has always been exceptional – a model for other companies – and this was no exception. After reading my review they sent me an upgraded Soundcore speaker – the Boost. This one has a button to boost the bass which to my ears did provide more bass and gave a slightly more spacious sound. I do not use the bass button because I do not like heavy bass. The original Soundcore 2 has raised buttons, this one has buttons that are flush with the speaker top and are more difficult to identify by touch. I prefer the raised buttons on the 2. Which is best? Both give sound that is good for the price. If you want a simple bluetooth speaker for occasional, casual use then either will give very good value for money. If you like heavier bass then go for the Boost If you want a speaker to act as your major sound source and give seriously good detailed and balanced sound you should look elsewhere but be prepared to spend a lot more money.

Additional Edit. Someone left the speaker out in the rain, actually a storm, Oh Nooooo! but it survived unscathed.

Very disappointed. The sound quality is fantastic for it’s size, exactly what I wanted, Bluetooth connects perfectly to everything and has a decent range too……but then I plugged in an aux cable, and I noticed there was audio lag. It made watching videos and playing games unbearable. I can accept it with Bluetooth, audio lag with Bluetooth should be expected, but there shouldn’t be any lag when plugged in through Aux.

I tried it on my pc, laptop, tv, tablet, and it was the same amount of lag every single time. It worked out to be 200ms out of sync with the video.

If you are going to be using this for music only, then it’s fine, but if you are going to use it for watching videos or gaming, then I can’t recommend this, not with the audio lag.

EDIT: Reduced from 2 stars to 1 and am seriously considering sending it back.

Now I have noticed static noise when charging the thing. If I charge it through my laptop or pc, it gives off a horrible static noise. It’s hard to hear over loud music, but once the music stops, you can hear it very clearly.

I’m also noticing the sound cracking up and almost cutting out at times. It’s usually when music goes from low volume to loud volume quickly.

Honestly, the more I use it, the more like a piece of junk it’s coming across as. I have never had so many issues with something as simple as a speaker before. It’s frustrating because it’s exactly what I need in a speaker and because of that reason, I am reluctant to send it back, but with the way things are going, I don’t see any other choice.

Very disappointed, I have loads of Anker kit and it’s all brilliant so when I wanted a Bluetooth speaker I had no reservations about buying theirs. It connected instantly and does get very loud but the sound quality is awful. Somehow it manages to cut out both highs and low leaving just the mid range, or to put it another way, it sounds like someone’s put a pillow on it.

Seeing all the other reviews and knowing the usual quality from Anker I can only assume I received a defective unit. I’m returning it for a full refund.

EDIT, After my review Anker immediately got in touch with me and offered me a free upgrade to their Sound Core Boost 20watt. I still have no way of comparing like for like on the original speaker (and still believe the terrible sound was due to a defect) but the new speaker is superb and I will do a review under that product.

As I said above I have a lot of Anker kit and very impressed with it all until this order, finally I have a problem and the Anker customer support has been over and above what could rightly be expected so an additional star. After this experience Anker will definitely remain my go to brand.

Have been around powered speakers since the days of the original Bose Roommates. Bought an Anker SoundCore Mini on a whim and was amazed by the performance. Went on and bought the SoundCore 2 and it turned out to be 10 times better! True stereo speakers with decent separation. Quality is beyond reproach. Battery life is sensational. Sound quality is better than I expected and is much more than such an inexpensive and small speaker has the right to sound.

    Tips:

It pays to burn-in the speakers.

For the best ambience and also for the best bass, I attached the speaker to the headrest of my high back chair so it now plays next to the nape of my neck. I turned the speaker upside down to get the proper stereo image. (please see attached photo)

BTW, I paid full price at Amazon Canada for the speaker and I am writing this review solely on my own initiative.

Good upgrade over the SoundCore 1, this version has a more balanced sound and better bass, it’s still not as good as the SoundCore Boost, but it’s cheaper smaller and runs longer. If your not into heavy bass, this is a good speaker. Battery life is great even when the red LED starts to flash it plays for ages before it does go flat. Now and then hear tad of processing going on, if you have a quiet bit of music then a loud instrument starts the over all sound drops a tad then rises again, think it has some sort of auto levelling going on, pick up on it now and then, its a little distracting. Would rather it would not process the sound like that, but it could be to do with the BassUp technology its using

Over all using this for casual listening if I want something better I grab the SoundCore Boost

Love the water resistance of this model, it feels solid and well made. Highly recommended if your on a budget.

Only down side for me is in Canada we don’t get offered the version that ships with a nice carry came, thats a US thing…. again.

Come on Anker give us all the gadgets you make. we can take it 🙂
