Bought this hub for my Surface Pro 6 so I could hookup an SSD drive and an optical drive to burn CDs and realized quickly that the power was not sufficient for both to co-exist on the single USB 3.1 on my Surface Pro. While I was not surprised I was a bit disappointed as there was no way to power this hub via another USB input. Anker does have another version of this USB hub with the option to add a secondary power source but for some weird reason is not being sold on Amazon and thus I ended up returning this for a refund. Might be great for small devices such as flash drives or maybe a keyboard and mouse or possibly on a desktop machine that outputs more amperage to the USB port though I doubt that would even work as much then as USB is a standard and the amperage is usually to spec.

If you’re looking for a portable and over engineered USB 3.1 gen 1 hub, make your way over to Orico’s transparent hub such as the F4U-U3.

Je l’utilise sur ma xbox one, un disque externe y est branché avec clavier et sousis, manettes, clé usb et téléphone portable sans problème. Le câble est un peu court et le plasique inspire la prudence lors des manipulation sinon tout fonctionne.

I took that photo from the manual, so everyone will have an idea how and why it might burn out or even not function

•• The short and gritty ••

This is a USB 3.0 adapter with 4 slots. It works wonderfully. Anker has been building a solid reputation across Amazon, and I frequently buy their products when I’m looking for cheap, non-Chinese fixes. So far, I have multiple battery chargers from them, and I haven’t had a problem yet.

    •• Why I Bought This ••

I bought this adapter for my father-in-law. I’d recently bought him a new laptop, but the Wifi was wonky. I went over to his house, planning to plug an ethernet cable (the thing that makes the internet work without Wifi) into his laptop. Unfortunately, I’d purchased a laptop that didn’t have one of those. Whoops! Welcome to planet oversight! The good news is that there’s a simple work-around. I bought this off of Amazon:

AmazonBasics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

. It allows you to bypass Wifi by hard-wiring your cable modem via ethernet cable to your laptop. EVEN a laptop without an ethernet port.

The other problem was, the laptop is a super slim ultrabook, meaning it only had 2 USB ports. That’s not enough for an ethernet adapter, mouse and keyboard dongle, and leftover room to plug in a hard drive. So I bought him this Anker USB adapter, and he now has room for everything he could want.

Everything works. USB 3.0 is the current standard in terms of speedy, reliable transfer-ability. Couldn’t be happier.

Wireless mouse and keyboard won’t work properly, even wired mouse has problems, it feels like someone else is controlling my pc. However, powered devices are okay… so far… like an audio interface and another powered usb hub that’s built into the monitor are all connected through this and are working. Well to anyone wanting to buy one, just read the very low power capabilities of this USB hub from their own website… you have been warned.

P.S. This thing looks amazing though…

Anker has some really nice looking products and rates very highly within a lot of the communities I am part of online. Unfortunately, this hub (in my case) specifically knocks out my WiFi, Bluetooth, and wireless signal for my mice on any USB 3.0 port I plug it into across 3 computers.

I am not sure if this is a shielding issue or a problem with the USB 3.0 spec but I can, however, remedy the issue by putting the hub on a 6-foot extension cord and move it far from the other devices and it will clear up the interference but this is detrimental to the slim and portable nature of the hub as I now I have to tote a 6 foot USB extension around with me alongside the hub just to be able to use it.

Hope to see improvements on future versions of this product as I really enjoy the rest of Ankers products.

** Update: Anker has kindly reached out to me after this review and apologize for the poor experience with the hub and offered me an explanation that this is an issue not with just this product but ALL USB 3.0 hubs and gave me a refund for my troubles. I’ll keep waiting for an improved product and in the meantime keep using the hub on an extension cable.

I have had this hub for a couple months using it for items hooked up to my laptop at work (mouse/keyboard, usb scanner and label printer. this my mouse and keyboard would not wake my laptop. When I touched the hub to see if it was plugged in, I almost burnt my fingers as the hub had overheated and melted. I guess I will go back to my cheap walmart hub that was bulkier as it did not try to burn me!

    edit: May 2020

Anker has reached out to me and offered a refund, replacement and I have revised my star rating to 3 and took two off for the actual product being faulty. Going through the reviews it seems that my issue was a off shoot. (it did work well till it started to melt)

I had tried this product in a car to use multiple USB devices, found my USB device was not recognized when i connect via this device but it was working directly when you plug into CAR USB.
    Not happy with the product.

I’m using the hub with a 2015 15″ MacBook Pro. Whenever I connect an additional external drive to the hub, the drive(s) already connected get unsafely disconnected.

They reappear immediately but anything that I was doing at the time, such as rendering or exporting video, transferring files, etc, is immediately stopped.

I’m very concerned about damage to the drives and data loss, especially if I am in the middle of transferring files.

    NOT RECOMMENDED.

I got this about 2 weeks ago. I only used 1 port for the most part. Need to used other ports the last couple I days. I realized 2 of the 4 ports randomly connect/disconnect my devices. At first I thought maybe the is an issue with my HDD. I check other HDD and still the same issue. Then I thought maybe the issue is power consumed by HDD, so I tried a used bluetooth connector and a couple of other gadgets. And the random disconnection/ connection was consistent on two ports.
Update: the seller contacted me and sent me another unit lightning quickly. The new one works as advertised. I am super happy with the new unit.
    Excellent customer service!

As much as I’m a big fan of Anker products and I use them every day, this product as been a let down for the following reasons:

    1) When using two small external drives my computer reports that the connection has dropped. The issue doesn’t happen with other USB hubs or when plugging the drives directly into the computer.
    2) I’ve had intermittent issues with a wireless mouse receiver plugged into the hub.
    3) The hub gets very hot. I’ve never seen that happen with a USB hub before.

I’ve just reached out to Anker support. Knowing how great their products are in general, I suspect that I have a defective unit.
