Truly wonderful new product from Peak Design.Has a very comfortable shoulder strap that does not cut into the shoulder like the cheaper straps and has a easy to reach loop pulls that makes adjustment quick and easy.Even the tabs feels more smoother to lock and remove and the ash strap looks so urban and stealth compare to the black strap,4 tabs, pouch and key are included and a high quality silver base plate.1% is donated to green projects around the world. One thing Peak Design should consider is making the base plate size tripod friendly.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Peak Design products. I needed something smaller for my Fuji x100v. This strap is comfortable, small and well-built. But because it has an adjustable option, when you shorten it because you want to hand hold the camera or store it away, it becomes really four straps instead of two. It is a mess of straps and guess in the way of shooting. Too bad.

I originally bought a ‘ebay Chinese copy’ of this so am already used to the type of strap. However, there is no comparison with regards to the quality difference between the ‘copy’ and the original. I have no fear of the mounts on the PD version snapping with out warning and the clips feel snug and don’t rattle at all (the copy feels a bit ‘tinny’ and rattles a bit when the mounts are not in them).
The strap does fell a bit stiff but I know from experience with the ‘copy’ that this will soften with use, and the PD strap definitely feels more comfortable (remembering that this is a thin strap so don’t expect a ‘heavy’ camera to be comfortable for long periods, get one of PD’s thicker straps for that and you won’t be disappointed).
The slider adjustments are a bit of a gimmick (most people set the strap and leave it at that length and are happy) but the more I play with it the more I can see me possibly adjusting it on the fly for certain situations, I just wouldn’t say that it is a specific selling point that would specifically make me want to buy this strap.

With regards to price, it is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of quality, and Peak Designs are continuously designing new equipment as well as improving their existing range so you have to also take that into account a bit.
If ‘cheap and cheerful’ is what you are after then check ebay for the ‘Chinese copy’ but it you want something that is going to last and not have any worries about your camera’s safety then the PD version is worth getting. I have no doubt that this strap will last for a long time.

I bought a camera strap that had some pockets for spare batteries and cards, but found it got a bit uncomfortable when wearing it for a while, as it got quite hot around the neck – and was not able to extend as far as I wanted it to.
After doing a bit of research online, I finally settled on the Leash from Peak Design – as all of the reviews I had seen were very positive of the product, and after looking at all of the straps available from them and other suppliers – decided that it was the most potential to give me what I was looking for.
It is a bit pricy to be honest, but is very, very good quality and extremely comfortable – it is really 3 straps in one, and I found that for my Sony bridge camera, it is absolutely perfect.
The connectors are very strong and easy to attach and dismantle, and there are 3 included along with a baseplate so you can but one on each side for wearing the strap over your neck – or one on the side and one on the bottom for wearing it like a sash (my favourite way) – which I was not able to do with my other strap.
It is very compact and takes up so much less room that my other strap, or you could just put it in your pocket if you were going to use a different strap…..for any reason that I cant think of at the moment?
I would imagine it would not be as comfortable with a large camera (please don’t ask me if it will be ok for x camera – as I have no idea on them :)) and one of Peak Design’s other products would be better suited – but for me, this is ideal.
I am currently considering whether to purchase the hand strap for my small Sony camera as well – but if Peak Designs want to send me one to review – I would be more than happy to do so 🙂

Summary – If you need a new strap for a small/med camera (with 2 anchors) – you could do a lot worse than this – bit pricy, but worth it!!

I got the Leash in ash grey. It looks very classy with the tan leather accents. The width is perfect for my Olympus OMD. The Slide/Slide Lite would be too wide.

It adjusts really easily to switch between shoulder, neck, or across the body sling modes, or for when I give the camera to my wife (who is much smaller). It is longer than a normal shoulder strap, so is very flexible and fits even an XL man.

For my OMD with a shall lens, it works best attached to the lugs on each side of the camera. Attaching to the base plate may be better with a longer, heavier lens. It’s nice to have the flexibility.

A few things that make it not perfect.
    1. It could do with a grip side like the Slide. It’s just smooth seat belt like material and quite slippy. This is great for easy camera access, but the camera can flop forward when you bend. Something to watch.
    2. The quick release attachments are a bit bulky and kind of get in the way when you grip the camera in your right hand. I’ve tried gripping the attachment in my palm with the camera, but not comfortable, so I generally grip it under with the attachment resting across the back of my hand. Still a bit awkward, but I’m getting used to it.
    3. The metal attachments look great and are really good quality, but I worry they might scratch my camera when it’s packed in the bag. It hasn’t yet, but I worry.

Overall, really happy with my Leash. It’s not cheap, but when you see the quality it is very good value.

Easily slides over bags and clothing, doesn’t catch or snag on anything. The material is also very soft and clearly going to last a long time. Love the quick release, great for cameras that often switch between being carried around the neck/shoulder and being put on a tripod.

This is the best accessory I ever bought for a camera. It works as advertised. Very easy to adjust and you get 4 clips. When attached using the tripod mouth screw, it prevents the camera from bouncing on your body as you walk, and it’s very easy to pick up the camera and shoot.

I have the small Panasonic ZS70 and this works perfectly with it.

Peak Design: Simply the best. Plenty of compliments have already been written by others but I feel that another might help other enthusiasts to make their decision. This is so good I now have two, plus the wider strap and the wrist strap. I’ve purchased lots of extra ‘buttons’ and attached them to all sorts of bags, cameras, tripod mounts etc. Durable, simple, easy to use and ultra-useful. Easily removed and rolled up, this allows for the sheer enjoyment of an unencumbered camera in the hand when that’s possible. Brilliant system that has added a great deal to the physical feel, enjoyment and security of my photography. Highly recommended.

I love Peak Design products and I have used their Everyday Backpack, Slide Strap, Cuff, Clutch, Capture as well as Capture Pro. They puts lots of thought and innovation in their products and I am happy with this Leash as well. This strap is very well designed, well-made and comfortable for smaller cameras. All materials used looks and feels premium and high quality.

My usual camera set up is quite heavy (Canon 5D Mark III with Battery Grip + Heavy L lenses) so Leash is not my usual camera strap (I recommend Peak Design Slide

Peak Design Slide Camera Strap SL-AS-3 (Ash)

for heavy set up). I use Leash in two scenario:

    (1) For my Advanced Compact Camera- Canon G7X II which I often use for hikes – and leash comes very handy. It fits in pocket when not required. It’s very easy to attach and detach and it is also good and comfortable for long hikes. Strap adjustment is very easy too and it has long adjustability range(33 to 57 inches). I also bought one for my Nikon binocular and this is far more comfortable than OEM strap. Another good option for hikes is Peak Design Cuff

Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Ash (CF-AS-3)

which I still use, but I switch to Leash when I want to use hiking poles or hiking turns out to be scrambling as camera will dangle and hit hiking poles or ground in those scenario.

    (2) When I put my camera on Capture

Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 (Silver with Plate)

, I want another level of protection when I am handling the camera like taking out or putting it back and leash works perfectly for that scenario.

As I said, Leash is small enough to slide into pocket as well. Anchors are very strong at 90 kgs capacity and also alerts about wear and tear.

There are two color choices Ash and Black and I have chosen Ash and it looks beautiful. Product has Lifetime warranty and in my experience, their warranty support is outstanding.

    CONS:
Peak Design has designed a very slim bottom Anchor Mount which is shipped with Leash. This mount goes into camera’s tripod mount so that you can use this as a Sling Strap. This Anchor Mount was designed in a slim and compact profile so that it does not obstruct opening/closing of battery/SD card compartment of cameras. Though this may work perfectly for bigger cameras, I found that it does obstruct operation of battery compartment on my advanced compact Canon G7X II. I do not see this being a big issue since my camera is fairly small and light and I can use two side points to connect to the camera, but this is something to consider if you are planning to use camera that way.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:
Well designed and high quality product and I can say that lots of thought have gone in designing this product. Though there are some cons as mentioned above, this seems to be best strap around in the market especially for smaller cameras and binoculars and I will continue to use it.

On the surface, this strap appears to be a great idea, with the quick release ends and the easy to adjust strap length. What is not clear, is just how stiff the strap material is, and the facts that once adjusted, does not want to lie flat, especially when there is no weigh on the strap.
Peak Designs does not make it clear at all that this strap is NOT intended to be used as a shoulder strap. This is because the material the strap is made of is so slippery, that it wants to very readily slip off of the shoulder. I found that within the first threee days of ownership, I nearly dropped a $1600 Canadian dollar camera on the ground, several times. When I provided Peak with feedback, their response was to tell me that I should have purchased their more expensive strap, that has silicon grippers built in to the strap. They also did not tell me that on this more expensive strap, the silicon grippers site on the outside of the strap where is would cross the shoulder (they still maintain that the strap should be worn across the body, and not on the shoulder). IF you want to wear the strap on the shoulder, the entire strap needs to be rotated 180 degrees so that it is basically inside-out, so that the silicon grippers now sit on your shoulder. If you do not do this inside-out flip, then when you put it on your shoulder, the silicon grippers face upwards, and DO NOT contact the shoulder in any way.
The quick release pieces that attach to the camera lugs are a great idea, but I see from ‘Googling’ about these straps, that they can wear fairly quickly, this compromising the security of whatever you have attached to the strap.
My suggestion is to consider another product, or be very sure that you can live with the shortcomings of the design of this strap. Watch Peak’s videos as you cannot easily look at and examine the strap before purchase, due to the kind of packaging used by Peak. I have to wonder if this was intentional?
My comments are made with thought, as I am a 64 year old retired professional photographer with more that 30 years in the business.

I’ve always had a dilemma with my camera strap, it gets in the way and always has for as long as I have had cameras, trust me this is a long time. I happened across these recently watching some of the well know photographers and cinematographers working, like you do, and noticed these weird tags hanging off their cameras, at first I thought they must be a security device (which by the way would be another great product) but then realized they are quick release tags for the camera. This has been a revelation let me tell you, they are solid, they are reliable, it is of great quality and frankly I don’t know why they don’t charge more. I have secured mine to the underside, the left and the right usual positions on the camera body, they do supply a screw in mount for the underside but I prefer to anchor mine to my tripod quick release shoe as I always have this secured to my cameras. And what’s more you are not limited to the strap it comes with; you can put this straight on to your lovely brand strap if you want. This is a win. Buy it. Buy it now before they eek the price up.
