I was reluctant to pay for something that broke easily and I didn’t want to rate this until I had a chance to try it out for a while.
When I unpackaged it, it looked good (eye sockets hollow, not clogged like some people reported) and intact.
I left it in our fire pit for a couple weeks without using it, and our big dog kept grabbing it out of the ashes and dragging it around the yard. It survived those “dog attacks”.
Then I finally had a chance to try it out with fire. I had a fire going for several hours, placing the wood on top of the skull “teepee” style. I had to move it once to relocate it while it was hot and the skull didn’t break.
So far so good.

Like other reviewers, I received a skull very poorly finished. I was hoping it would have better quality control with so many complaints, but I will probably try to fix it myself. I’m sure it will still look great in the fire, but another one I ordered, from a different place, is much heavier and with better defined features (but only the eyes are holes, which is why I wanted this one). We shall see how it holds up to use in my small propane fireplace.

Love the weight and size. My son will love this for Christmas. I ordered one for my husband cannot wait to try it out next spring in our fire pit. It would look really cool in a firepit. Would be totally be cool in an indoor fireplace. Might freak some people out. Looks real.

This is probably the best purchase I’ve made in the last 10 years as it’s helping me get over my divorce! Hahah love this thing.

Because I was stuck at home staring into the gas fireplace during winter “Covid” isolation, I thought it would be nice to get an accessory to spruce it up. So far, I love this.

Other reviews have mentioned quality issues. I’ve only had it for a short time, but it seems high-quality.

I’d also like to point out that I’m fine if the jaw breaks off. That’s more realistic. In the real world, jaw bones don’t stay attached and sometimes scavengers run off with them. It’s rare that a skull and jaw bone are found together unless the remains were subject to a funerary ritual that bound them together. It would actually be nice if someone were to make a “jawless” skull model for added realism. But I can understand why people would be upset if their relatively expensive fireplace accessory breaks.

Update: After reaching out to the seller they made things right and gave me a voucher for a replacement item. I was about 10 days past the return window. Thank you for doing good business!

Original Review: Cheap product. I used this with a fake gas fire pit and it broke the second night we used it. It had been in the fire for about 2 hours. Very expensive product that didn’t hold up to my expectations.

This is the second one I’ve bought and the first one is doing great…but the second one has only lasted just under 3 months and must have had a flaw and cracked into 3 pieces last night. It is under a covered patio so moisture wasn’t a problem…we did use it almost every night.. so it had lots of use but so is the first one…good and much enjoyed item but we just must have gotten a faulty one… Ivan
