Ugadi, also known as Yugadi, marks the beginning of the New Year in the Deccan region of India . Celebrated predominantly in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, Ugadi holds immense significance in Hindu culture. Ugādi (Telugu: ఉగాది) or Yugādi (Kannada: ಯುಗಾದಿ), also known as Samvatsarādi (lit. ' beginning of the year '), is the first day of the year on the Hindu calendar. Ugadi is celebrated on the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra (March–April) following the South Indian Amavasyant calendar, in which months end on the day of the new moon. The new year marks the beginning of the calendar cycle as well as the start of spring and the planting season. Ugadi is an important festival celebrated in the state of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. It represents the beginning of the New Year or Nav Varsh asper the Hindu panchang. This year the festival will fall on 19th March , coinciding with the Marathi festival of Gudi Padwa.
