I bought this to be able to use my Sony earbuds with microphone that use a TRRS AUX cable. I wanted to cheap out on a gaming headset. The job was done fantastically, I saved a lot of money.

I tested the microphones’ noise floor level and compared it my HP Z800 onboard audio mic in and I was pleasantly surprised with the performance for the price of $14 CAD and it’s a GREAT improvement for that price. I used this dongle to plug my Sony earbuds mostly to play Overwatch and the Sonys’ microphone worked surprisingly well.

The unit I received is defective. After a few hours of usage time a sudden and extremely loud screetch occurs in the Microphone and in the headphones. The volume is so loud I’m concerned it would damage my earplugs and even worse, my ears. It is very sudden, so it is shocking and painful. I estimate the noise level going as high as 110dB easy. I was listening to classical music once at low volume, relaxing and this happened, I thought I got an aneurysm. Very very unpleasant. I suspect it has to do with the internal components. The issue was reproduceable on 3 different devices all running Windows 10: Acer Gamin Laptop 2014, Dell Inspiron from 2020 and an HP Z800 Workstation with a server grade board. Unplugging the dongle and plugging it back usually fixes the problem.

I will try to get another unit and to see if this was one-time write-off or if this glitch happens with all of them. I may update this review later.

Glitch aside, the USB built quality is really good. It does the job really well. The aluminum feeling case is satisfying to the touch. And overall, it’s an aesthetically pleasant dongle.

Update: The issue seems to be that this dongle doesn’t like to be plugged in USB Hubs. When plugged directly in the USB jack of the PC’s I/O panel the issue seem to disappear. The problem has happened with other units I purchased so it’s not a one-time write-off. I’d be careful if you need to plug this into a USB Hub. Other than that, works like a charm. I’m leaving the 3 star review as this I’d obviously a problem with the dongle.

Bought this as the connection on my laptop was no longer working. This seems to be an on-going fault with laptops as the same happened to my previous one but didn’t know there was such a gizmo then. There were many different ones to choose from but decided to go with this one & it worked first time. Just plug & play. Very happy so far but it’s still early days but first rection is great piece of kit.

I got this because my motherboard has quite noisy microphone input and audio output with static & interference and I was hoping a USB sound card would solve the issue.

This USB sound card has no static at all and now my voice is crystal clear during calls with my friends, its completely solved the problem I had. Plus its a combined jack which makes it easier to use my gaming headset, since my desktop has the traditional seperate jacks.

There was no drivers or anything needed, it simply just worked.

    I highly reccomend this.

When you having issues with your sound card on a laptop or desktop, this may be a decent cure. Small size.
Suggest you pick up a short [say 1ft] USB extension cable to minimize the cabling out there.
I won’t mention the solution for the microphone as someone gave the solution.
But remember that this doesn’t like USB hubs [although powered may work] or USB3 ports.
This probably isn’t an issue now as many laptops [and desktops] still have USB 2 ports. However more and more laptops are USB 3 only [and maybe desktops].

It’s OK but it doesn’t always register the microphone Chanel with my computer. Bit of a fiddle to get it to work properly first time every time.

Bought one to try on a raspberry pi 4 with the latest os , to my delight the dongle was identified under the OS without modification , one just had to adjust the alsa interface to select it from the standard input, very impressed, although this is no hifiberry , it is a inexpensive and good solution . And the price can’t be beat.

I have used this to connect a Rode Lavalier microphone to a PC and the input/output level is equivalent to another microphone that connects directly to USB. Has worked without any problem on Zoom and Webex conference calls. No setup or tinkering required.

Received this today. Just the perfect solution for my PC Win10 system, a plug & play USB audio interface for an integrated headphone/mic (headset or earbuds with mic with a TRRS connector) for Skype, Zoom, music etc. On first use the microphone did not work even though the audio drivers and settings were correctly selected but further changes I did resolve the problem.

If you are experiencing a similar situation of no sound from the microphone input, it may not be the mic. Check and try the following:
Connect the headphone/mic (4 conductor TRRS 3.5mm plug) in to the UGreen USB audio adaptor, plug it in to a USB socket (not a USB3 type), and the drivers should install automatically. If the microphone does not function on your app, such as Skype, Zoom or similar, go to “Start”, “Settings”, “System”, select “Sound” and choose “Realtek USB2.0 Audio” for both Input and Output. Go further down the screen and select “Related Settings”, “Microphone Privacy Settings”, “Allow Apps to Access your Microphone”. Choose the particular App(s) that apply and set to “ON”. You should now find that the microphone will work. If not, then re-test with a different headset or test the USB adaptor on another computer or laptop to rule out the USB adaptor itself.

I have this plugged into a UGREEN USB switch/hub along with my keyboard and mouse receivers so that with one button I can switch controls and audio from my work laptop to my gaming computer. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for to be able to share the monitor-mounted soundbar (and passthrough to Bose headphones) with both, which is an oldy but a goody with just 1x 3.5mm input. There’s no drivers, no hiss on my headphones and the sound quality is really good – at least as good as the on-board audio from my high end gaming motherboard and better than my laptop. I tried the Soundblaster X G1 and G3 before this and they did not sound better and they had all sorts of connectivity problems. This works every time on every switch between laptop and PC, and I’m flicking it back and forth regularly throughout the day. REALLY pleased and impressed with this as a way to share a 3.5mm soundbar/headphones across two devices, great sound quality. Also no lag, echo or audio problems using this to output my sound on the soundbar during video calls (with Razer Kiyo as the camera and mic) it all just works perfectly.

Bought this primarily to eliminate microphone line noise on the headset jack of my Chromebook c330. It did the job. There is potentially a very big con, however (see below).

    Pros:
*Minimal/non-existent line noise for audio input and output
*Audio output quality roughly equivalent to my cell phone’s headphone jack in terms of both definition and loudness (Motorola g7 power), and is better at reproducing bass than the Chromebook c330’s native audio.
*Audio input quality is crisp and clear on a decent headset microphone.
*Works via USB-C if you happen to have an adapter handy.

    Cons:
**Update** contrary to what I claim below, the lag between the left and right speaker is constant, and not just on initiation of audio. It’s only really noticeable when going from silence, or When there is a loud percussive sound. Leaving the rating at three stars since this may not trouble everyone as much as it bothers me.

When playing audio, there is unfortunately a slight initial delay between the right and left speaker. I would estimate a roughly 200 millisecond delay before the left speaker begins playing audio compared to the right. The sound in the left speaker isn’t lagged, but it does take a brief moment before i begin to hear sound out of the left speaker. This happens every time I start playing audio with or without the usb-c adaptor i have, and can be distracting if i’m using voice chat that silences incoming audio when no one is speaking. This problem persists across multiple types of headphones, and when plugged into my cell phone, my chromebook, or my pc. if this isn’t only an issue with my specific unit, then this may be a deal-breaker depending on your use case.
