Be careful with getting fake versions of this pillow. The version not sold by Amazon was a knockoff. You can see the printing and materials are different. The plastic skeleton is also different. There are more support fins on the real one. See photos.
The black one I got was a fake and the red (coral) one is the real one.

My wife and I each ordered one of these neck braces at different times in the last three months. We got the same brand of Trtl Pillow neck brace. But the two braces are of different structure and therefore different characteristics. In the photos, see that they look nearly identical on the surface, with slightly different fabrics evident. Yet on the inside, the plastic spines are different. The spine is the most important part of the brace, as it is what holds your head up while you sleep. The brace on the right, that has the more full bodied side structure (the 3 fingers) is more stiff, and is a better support to your head. This is a very clear difference when you wear them. The version on the left is not stiff enough to support my head, and I feel discomfort is allowing my head to lean sideways. With the stiffer spine on the right, my head is much better held up, and my neck is not strained. My wife also can clearly feel the difference. Perhaps the two different spines were designed at different times. Hopefully, the stiffer one is the more recent design, so that future users will be supported well. If the weaker spine is the more recent, then someone may have decided to save a bit of money, using less plastic. This would be a mistake, as sleeping with your head leaning into a brace is a matter of health and safety. I’ve not attempted to sleep with this while on a plane yet. We’ll do that within a month, and I’ll come back and add to this review. But I will say for now, that the stiffer version is very comfortable for me, and provides more support than my usual inflatable neck pillow. This brace will take up much more room in my carry-on, than the inflatable pillow, so I do hope it also works better.

This clever little gadget might be well worthwhile if you’re in a situation where you’re only going to get a few snatches of sleep anyway – in a train or bus, for example. It might work well for someone else. Technically, it is everything it’s advertised as being; it does support your head, you can adjust the position somewhat, it prevents drafts on your neck, it does everything it should. But, psychologically, I just did not feel supported, so could not get a good sleep. It might improve with use, as one could become accustomed to it.

The Trtl Pillow was a great investment. Recently purchased for long haul flights to Europe. Not only was it a great neck pillow, but also worked great as a lower back support (should have bought a second one so i could have both at the same time). Didn’t give it 5 stars, only because I wish there was a clip built in for it to attach to my backpack other ways.
Would recommend this product to travelers for trains, planes, and automobiles.

The trtl pillow is in theory an excellent product but in practice it doesn’t live up to any of the claims.
I used this on 2 short haul and 2 long haul flights. First thing to know is that this isn’t actually a pillow, it’s a prop for your head, similar to resting your head on the side of the plane wall.
There is very poor padding on the support part of the ‘pillow’ and this makes it uncomfortable to lean your head on. It digs into the side of your head and certainly isn’t comfortable while wearing headphones.
The other real downside is that you can only rest your head on one side which means you can’t change sides and it really isn’t good for people who move their head when sleeping in an upright position.
It also puts uncomfortable pressure on your shoulder and if not tight enough doesn’t actually prop your head up. If tightened the non prop side gathers at your neck which basically chokes you, which seems like a massive safety oversight.
To sum up, not properly padded, major safety concerns, hurts your face, neck and shoulder to wear, can only prop your head on one side and also totally overpriced.
There is a reason standard neck pillows have been designed the same way forever, do yourself a favour and buy a much cheaper, much more effective, standard neck pillow amd don’t waste money on this.

I bought the before travelling to Australia. The last time I went I used the usual donut hole neck pillow and woke up with a huge kink in my neck. The Trtl pillow seem very awkward at first, it’s like putting on a scarf, but eventually, you get the hang of it. I did not find it hot at all on the place (but most planes are cold anyway). It is very easy to travel with as well because it isn’t bulky like other neck pillows. You are able to move it around comfortably while it is on your neck from side to side, for which ever feels more comfortable.

From my test run at my desk (!) it seems like it would work better than a traditional U-shaped travel pillow. I washed it prior to use, taking even more care than is recommended (cold water wash, in a lingerie bag, hang to dry). However, some of the internal stitches have come apart, the long velvet strip has buckled and something’s going on with the internal padding. Unusable now and am returning. For $40, it should hold up better. Disappointed.

I used this on a 12-hour flight to Asia. It did a great job of holding up my neck while in a sitting position (middle seat between 2 armrest hogs… ugh) and I actually managed to sleep a bit with this, and I never sleep on flights! I turned it to catch my chin as my head fell forward. It’s a tiny bit awkward for packing, because the struts keep it in one shape so it can’t really be manipulated and squished into a corner of your bag (if that makes sense), but it was easy enough to fit stuff around it. The material is very soft. Others have mentioned the warmth — that didn’t really bother me on the plane, which was cool. I was able to use earbud headphones with it just fine.

This product is kind of hit and miss. I would still recommend it though as it is so much better than your avarage around your neck travel pillow. I bought it for my America trip, I was going to be on a plane for 13hrs. You have the get the position just right for yourself which in my case took a fair few goes to get comfy which was annoying sometimes. I had to make sure it was quite tight on too because otherwise it would shift as I was sleeping. I feel this product could do with some adjusting, like the wrap around scarf bit.. I think it needs to be thicker fleece material for extra support and thicker around the actual neck support too for extra comfort.
I did managed to sleep with it don’t get me wrong but like I said it was hit and miss but again like I said much better than your average neck pillow. It so easy to transport aswell which was fantastic as it just slipped into my backpack.

I purchased this pillow for a 7 hour red-eye flight to Scotland. I had high expectations; this would change my flying experience. Unfortunately I didn’t have much luck with this product. It helps support your head however is often awkward and inconvenient to use. I have over-ear noise cancelling headphones which were near impossible to wear while using the Trtl Pillow. The position of your ear, head and the brace do not allow for comfortable use of headphones. Also, the fabric is a fleece and very warm. I am generally cold on airplanes however found this made me overheat – it is like wearing a tightly wrapped scarf. The only luck I had with this was using it in conjunction with other pillows to add additional support. Better than a U-shaped travel pillow but overall, it was just okay

After reading reviews and deliberating for weeks, I finally went ahead and purchased the Trtle pillow. I find it impossible to sleep sitting up unless my head is properly resting/supported so very rarely get any sleep on long-haul flights. On a recent flight to Mexico, I purchased and used the Trtl.
It looks nice and funky and feels well made, but in use, It takes a long time to find just the right position to support your head, I was endlessly wrapping and re-wrapping the fleece scarf bit and refastening the velcro and moving both the Trtl and my head around to try and get the best position.
Even when I did find the most comfortable position I found that it allowed my head to drop uncomfortably far to the side, resulting in the feeling of the other side of my neck being pulled – and the slightest bit of discomfort distracts me from sleep, no matter how tired I am. Quite simply, with the full weight of my resting head, the Trtl just didn’t provide enough support.
I felt like the plastic internal frame needed to be more rigid and about an inch taller to do the job it’s meant to do. Whilst I do still think it’s marginally better than a regular foam u shaped travel pillow (which provide virtually no neck support in my experience) if you find it difficult to sleep upright on planes, then unfortunately this alone won’t help.
If I’d used this and had a window seat I could further lean against to fully take the weight of my head and support my neck further, then I think the Trtl may have helped, but the whole point is a window seat is rare, and with many airlines having seats that don’t provide the little flip out bits on the head rest any more, the Trtl just wasn’t up to the job and on both 9.5 hour flights, I didn’t get a wink of sleep.
If you are the kind of lucky person that easily falls asleep and doesn’t have a problem sleeping sitting up to begin with, then you might find that the Trtl provides enough support to aid you dropping off, but if like me you find it hard to sleep unless your head is properly supported and your neck isn’t pulled, then don’t waste your money on this.

I loved the first Trtl Pillow that I got but I lost it on a trip. I loved it so much that I recommended it to many friends and family members. After my first purchase, I bought another one and my sister bought 2 for her family. All 3 were different than the first one. The supportive plastic piece inside were in different material and didn’t provide the same support as the first one. All 3 pillows were pretty much useless. The 3 star is the average of 5 star from the first purchase and 1 star from the additional 3 purchases. I saw other reviewers making comments about getting fake products. But there’s no other sellers for this product, I personally think that it’s the quality control issue within this company. I really hope that they get this resolved.

Seemed like a great idea but needs some work. If you want to sleep on one side you can’t easily flip to the other without taking the entire thing off turning it around completely and readjusting it on your other side. This would wake us up just to “turn over”. Fabric is soft like a blanket which was nice but the “support” piece is hard and not a good size for my wife but was ok for me and not adjustable. Unfortunately we will be returning both ESPECIALLY for the price you can get two better quality ones for the same price as one Trtl. Also for shipping they were sent separately and took much longer for the red one to come in which could have been an issue if we were traveling sooner. We will be getting a different style neck pillow for my travel needs this winter. Do not recommend
