I bought this expecting it to be a nice upgrade from my XB950N1. It’s more comfortable, so that’s a nice plus, but after listening to several songs and feeling like something was off, I pulled up a sine-wave frequency test and discovered that the frequency response below 40hz is much weaker and tinnier than the old XB950N1. To make matters worse, the physical buttons on the right cup are replaced with a really stupid invisible touch system which is super easy to set off by accident whenever you take off your headset during conversation or adjust it, or fall asleep sitting in a train, etc. The final strike against it is that whenever you plug the headset in using the 3.5mm wire, it turns OFF all the equalizer settings and defaults back to a boring, plain sound with NO bass boost and with no way to change it back. The old XB950N1 saves the bass boost settings in the headset and keeps it whenever you plug in the wire, allowing you to use it on a PC without issue. I can’t for the life of me figure out why they REMOVED a good software feature, or why they think having to slide your finger around doing gestures is easier than having a physical button to pause. The biggest offender is the reduced low-bass response, and so the only saving grace is the fact that it’s more comfortable with better padding (particularly over the head) which is why I’m giving it two stars instead of one. It’s a shame, really, cause I was truly looking forward to this purchase.

Where do I start. These things are great! Coming from the Sennheiser HD 4.40BT, these things pack WAY more sound. I was expecting some mediocre bass with marginally loud volume. It was nothing but that though. If you turn the bass up to 10 on the app, these things will literally shake. The noise canceling is also really nice. If you have a loud gaming PC, it will cancel all of that. They are also great on the bus. One thing to note is the grey colour cannot be found anywhere else then amazon and Best Buy here in Canada. I don’t know what Sony did but it is what it is. The only drawback is that it doesn’t come with a hard shell case. Being completely honest, all of us will use the bag/case then get lazy to take them in and out as time goes on.

    10/10

These headphones are awesome! Incredibly comfortable, insanely good battery life and some incredible bass. The Sony app allows you to fully customize the sound, so if you want less bass that isn’t a problem or you can change your sound stage or level of noise cancelling. Only place these headphones are lacking is the case. All you get for a carry case is a bag. Granted it’s a nice bag, but It’s still a bag. Really disappointed with that but otherwise I can’t recommend these headphones enough.

This has nice sound to it. I have tested other headphones extensively–Sony XM3, Bose Q35, Soundlink, and I also own Beats solo3. This is just perfect headphone for me. The bass isn’t muddy and the sound is deep and can get pretty loud. I like that I can adjust bass and the right ear touch pad. Overall I love it.

I have the 1000xm3’s, beats studio 3, sennheiser hd 4.40. I would not recommend these even though they are very identical to the xm3’s in look. Sound is average, even my sennheisers sound more premium than these and the beats fit much better on the head. For the price you don’t even get a hard case. Sony has disappointed with these.

UPDATE: It’s been a week of use, headphones are constantly crackling at mid volume levels with no EQ/bass boosted settings on, even turning the volume up and down makes the music crackle. Sending back for refund.

So at first I was really impressed by the sound these headphones put out. The bass is enough to vibrate your head a bit when maxed out, however that was a mistake.

After listening to my XB900N’s carefully, there are clicking sounds that sound like a pen tapping on a table every couple of seconds (best way I can describe the clicking aound). I think it’s the mic inside that vibrates too much, causing the clicking sound which is incredibly annoying if you’re listening to music loud with bass turned all the way up. Overall; disappointing but great before I notice the clicking noise

These headphones are great. Love the SOUND QUALITY and NOISE CANCELLING as well as the AMBIENT SOUND!!!! It’s got great battery life. During the first months of use the headphone’s battery lasts about 2 to 3 days on one full charge. Also you’ve got to love how quick it charges and how fast it connects a phone or laptop. The google assistant works pretty well (as it’s supposed to).
It has a boring appearance. It’s looks don’t show its price. Also it costs quite abit. All in all it works really well and is super comfortable. I have no regrets buying it. 🙂

Got it while on sale and am thoroughly impressed with these headphones. The build quality is all plastic (aside from the size adjustment band which is metal), but it doesn’t feel cheap. They’re also pretty comfortable for long use – however, my ears do tend to sweat after a while.

The sound quality is surprisingly balanced. I expected it to be bass-heavy given the branding, but it’s honestly just a hint deeper than the Hear On 1’s I’m replacing. This is a plus for me because I was a bit concerned the bass would be overwhelming and muddy, which it isn’t. Either way, you can easily adjust the bass in the app to your liking. My only pet peeve with the sound quality is that you can’t use any other codec aside from SBC if you want to adjust the in-app equaliser. Speaking of codecs, I want to note just how fast these pair with my phone – when Bluetooth on my phone is active and I turn on the headphones, it takes just under three seconds to pair. Every other Bluetooth device I own takes at least 20-30 seconds, so this is a welcome surprise.

Another thing I love about these is the touchpad on the right ear cup. You can skip songs, pause, raise/lower volume, etc. Ambient mode is probably my favourite feature, where you place your hand over the cup to lower the volume and stop the noise cancelling to hear things around you – and let me tell you, this is SUPER convenient!

With respect to the noise cancelling, it’s honestly not impressive at all. It barely blocks more noise than the headphones themselves, which is a bit disappointing. On the bright side, at least there isn’t any hissing like on some N/C headphones. Definitely don’t get these if this is a priority feature for you.

The battery life is also very good – I can easily get the advertised 30h of use on one charge. The charging times aren’t the greatest here (takes a few hours to go from 0-100%), but that’s far from a deal-breaker for me.

Overall, I have 0 regret getting these. Not sure if they’re worth the regular price (I think it’s a bit expensive for what you get), but they’re a no-brainer when discounted. Either way, these were a great purchase.
