I bought this Receiver to replace a 30 year old Pioneer, It basically had the same specs as the retiring unit in regards to power, distortion etc. The big let down was the sound quality, the old Pioneer had a richer and deeper sound. The new Sony seemed a bit flat.Possibly the adverse results of everything being digital now.

If you’re looking for a great amp/receiver to go with existing components and you don’t want complicated or you don’t want to break the bank, this is the unit for you. Fast setup, great sound and I really love the Bluetooth feature. My wife and I take turns sending music from our iphones and ipads. I also really love the loudness adjustment for phonograph.

I’m a professional musician. I was thinking of getting an external amplifier for my computer running through my soundcraft mixer, but then I realized that it has way too much wattage, and your typical amplifier from a music store is $300.00.

If you are considering speakers with 4ohms (near field reference monitors) you cannot use this amplifier, you need to use passive speakers that are 6ohms minimum…

for this price typically you don’t get a phono input on other brands. It’s nice to see Sony still cares about the older technology and provide a phono input with grounding connector.

For people who complain about low bass response, if you are so concerned with equalization buy a 19″ equalizer by ART Pro Audio (made by Yorkville, a Canadian company) simply hook that unit up and set it underneath the amp and you can tweak the EQ all you like.

The only downside is scanning through FM stations is painfully slow other than that its great.

If your a vinyl enthusiast or just looking for a receiver to play your tunes the Sony STR-DH190 will do you fine. Its high-resolution audio will allow you to play your music at its original quality if you have the lossless music to go with, and can tune it’s bass and treble to your liking. If I’m looking to plug my headphones in and enjoy or I’m playing with Bluetooth with my speakers it hasn’t failed me yet. The thing I dislike is that I find the menu hard to navigate and you can only change the treble or bass on the included remote not on the front which would have been better. The Sony sounds absolutely marvelous, looks great, and is quite impressive for the price.

    Es simple, es estereo.

Pros.

Generally, I love this receiver. It looks good, it was easy to set up, and using it is fairly intuitive. I bought it for the phono capabilities but also enjoy the Bluetooth receiver, I haven’t bothered with the other inputs or radio yet. I only really have 2 complaints. The first one is that it’s not HDMI compatible (as there are no inputs), and the sound quality is not as good as my previous receiver (a relic from the 80’s that eventually refused to turn on). Thus far I’ve found that it doesn’t have quite as rich of a sound. However, for the price I would still recommend it. It’s a great little all in one for beginners or people on a tighter budget.

The Sony receiver was to replace my Yamaha R-S202BL since the later did not have the capability to handle a turntable. The specs are quite comparable.

The Sony phono section sounded good however FM reception was disappointing. Perhaps this was due to the rather cheap FM antenna provided with the unit. The fact that it has a proprietary connector limits using a standard coaxial cable.

For the line-level inputs, I also found the lower end to be “muddier” than my Yamaha. The Sony ran best in the “direct” mode but lacked some presence at the top and clarity at the bottom.

Bluetooth works well and easy to pair.

Very easy to use. Pairs with my I-Phone without a hitch. Bought it because it also has a phono-input for connecting to a record player. Wish it had 4-ch instead of just 2. Also wish it had AM radio as well besides the FM. Tuning the FM radio stations is done via the little remote control. The process of searching for stations, presetting stations, and deleting a preset is a bit unintuitive and could use some streamlining. But it works OK once you get used to it.

    Gracias.
