The 50mm is a very flexible focal to shoot at and with the right composition can be used for everything from street photography to portraits to landscape. This particular lens captures great detail and the image quality is very impressive for the money, the built quality is respectable too, but it is not up there with premium metal lenses but that might be even better if you prefer a lighter kit to carry around which I certainly appreciate. This was my first lens and it still is one of my favs. Recommended!

It should arrive by the next week but it reached me one week earlier! Thumbs up for that!
    What is inside?:
In the package there’s a Lens + caps, the lens hood and a good carrying bag. (same ones they sell on the European market which is great)
it also comes with a user manual and a warranty card by Nikon.
    Review in few words:
Great prime FX lens, I am using it with my D3400 (crop censor so it will be 75mm). The 1.8 aperture is wonderful for smooth bokeh and low light photography. This lens if used on a crop censor will do a great job for portraits.
The focus is fast enough, but will struggle a bit in low light, so use the manual focus to help it.

I absolutely love this lens, by far the best one I have! These pictures were taken with this lens and they are probably the best I’ve ever taken! Autofocus is pretty noisy. I personally don’t care about it but some might find it disturbing and even annoying if shooting in a very silent environment. But the quality of the pictures and the beautiful completely blurred background of the portraits is totally worth it!

If you are into portrait, wedding or social photography, THIS is the lens you must have in your collection. It’s a steal at under $250, and the quality of pictures is outstanding. Clear, sharp focus on subjects with beautiful bokeh (blurring out the background). This lens will enable you to take amazing pictures of people and objects in low light – flash will not be needed in most situations if you set the camera settings correctly. I use Arpeture mode with it most of the time on my Nikon D5100 and it works beautifully. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the A/S/M/P modes when you have this lens!!

Some people might wonder if this is good for landscape photography: YES, in certain situations, it works very well. If you are looking to focus on something in particular in a given landscape (ex. a waterfall) or you want to do up close (not macro, but within a few feet) then this lens can also take sharp, amazing pictures. But I would not say it’s primarily a lens suited to landscape photography.

Note that this lens does NOT do macro photography. If you stand within a few inches of your subject, it cannot focus. So look elsewhere if you want that.

Overall, this has to be the best value for a 50 mm prime lens out there. If what I described above is what you’re looking for, DON’T hesitate to buy this lense!

I had read lots of reviews about this compared to the 1.8 lens and the market competitor the Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART. Sadly this lens comes third. The 1.8 is much sharper when shot wide open. I had to stop this down to 3.2 to get it sharp – so was useless to me shot anything above that, which for me, defeats the point of a 1.4 for low light. The Sigma is my champion. It is much heavier – over double weight and pricer but it can be shot wide open at 1.4 and its pin sharp. This for me is what need a 1.4 to achieve.
If budget is important – get the 1.8
If you really want a 1.4 for shooting wide open, get the Sigma.
If the lens is for daily shots, bumbling about and not for use wide open then this lens is just fine.
Same great build quality you expect from Nikon – it’s a lovely lens, it really is but for wide open pin sharp images, its not the best.

I bought this lens a while back to use on my

    NIKON D3200

. The lens is overkill for my specific camera, but I have so much fun using it. The lens is incredibly sharp (in my case, the camera I am using holds back the lens’ potential in that regard), and offers a very large aperture.

The large aperture allows for some incredibly soft bokeh, as well as decent low-light performance. Don’t let the Micro designation trick you into thinking this is a one trick pony…this lens can be used for close-up work, portraits, insects, wild life, etc. The auto focus worked well, but was noisy and sometimes slow to recognize that something was within macro range. Keep in mind that this is a prime lens, meaning it is fixed at 105mm. For me, using a Prime lens has taught me to “zoom with my feet”; I am constantly moving around and checking out different perspectives and compositions. This may seem like a drawback to some, but I have never had so much fun taking photos.

The lens is fairly straightforward to use. There is a VR switch (Vibration Reduction, gets you one or two more stops when taking handheld photos…turn this off when using a tripod),a focus distance switch (if you aren’t doing close-up macro work, switch this to 0.5 to Inf), and an auto/manual focus switch. Focal length is display right on the barrel. Included with the lens is a detailed instruction book, a soft case, a front and rear lens cap, and a hood (Pro Tip: Use this if you want people to think you mean business!)

I’ve included a few photos that I have taken with this lens on my

    NIKON D3200

    . Enjoy!

I am using it with Nikon D 5600 , its really awesome for manual photography. Hope you can find some sample images attached. I am just an amateur to DSLR now I am surprised that I too can take beautiful shots. whoever interested with digital photography and manual focus this lens is a good choice, you can do many experiment with it. For those who need auto focus please stay away from this lens.

Tolles Objektiv!

Molto soddisfatto

I had heard about the quintessential ‘nifty fifty’ and ordered this to try, mostly because of the low price. I figured that it wouldn’t be much of a gamble if it wasn’t what it was made out to be. Wow. I love this lens. It performs far better than some of my much (by far) more expensive glass. Is it somewhat hard to get over the fixed focal length? Maybe, but I am used to using fixed primes, so I don’t find it too much of an inconvenience. I shoot in manual, so I can’t rate it’s auto performance. Anyway, I am so glad that I picked up my first nifty fifty. As far the seller; shipping was quick and the item arrived as described.

Very good lens if you are tight on budget.Nice for potrait but I will not recommend it if you are using dx format camera due to crop factor you cant accumulate whole group in a single frame.I would suggest to go for 35mm Nikon lens.It is having a nice bookeh effect (see d pic).Sharp pic good for low lighting Scenerio. Can be used both by Professional and Amature.

Generally 50MM (used on FX modle) field of view is what your eye can see with some crop of 10meters.So choose wisely between 35mm and 50mm

This is one of the BEST purchases I have ever made in regards to my camera gear. I use this one for every wedding I shoot, and the portraits/detail shots I capture with this lens are DEADLY. I have had this lens for almost 4 years now, and I’ve never looked back. Before purchasing it, I tried the Tokina 100mm f/2.8, and the chromatic aberration/fringing is abhorrent. I immediately hated the quality of images captured and could tell the significant difference of quality in the glass. When I picked up this lens, I fell instantly in love. Rarely, if ever, do I struggle with fringing with this lens. The clarity and detail captured always amaze me. I don’t know if I’ve made it clear yet, but I LOVE this lens. I recommend it to every single Nikon shooter I ever meet. This is so worth the money. You will look at your camera and cry, the results will be that beautiful. lol
