UPDATE: DO NOT BUY A BUDDY WITHOUT THE FUEL FILTER WHEN USING 20lb TANKS!
I really wish they said this in the first place. After working for weeks I was in a pinch and did a tank swap instead of getting a refill. This tank must have has some oil in it because it ruined my buddy. It was spurting this oil when I was trying to light the pilot and it wouldn’t stay lit. I tried the Qtip repair (from youtube) but that didn’t work because this oil was all through the regulator and system and even in the enclosure. I was too late for amazon exchange. Had to get a new buddy. BUY THE FILTER! PLEASE believe me. It’s worth it.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I had no idea that the grey buddy (which is exactly the same as the red buddy except for colour) and it was cheaper. Damn. Ok with me… I like the grey better anyway. What a great device. It will be amazing in my camper van. It gets so hot so fast. I haven’t used it for a night yet but I imagine I’m going to have to turn it off and on because it’s going to get so hot. Better hot than cold though.

I love mr heater products. I own the big buddy and have owned several of the red lil buddy. This is my first time owning one of the grey ones wich doesnt seem much different then the lil red ones. They just label it as rv indoor safe and mark the price up when they all are indoor safe as long as you have propper ventilation. My first heater lasted me about a week and the plastic side on the heater started seperating. Come to find out the screws pulled through the plastic leaving me a sandwich bag of screws and plastic. I contacted amazon and got a replacement sent withing 2 days. I opended up the package and inspected the product and both side were seperated on the bottom. You can pull it apart and see clearly the plastic gave way and the screws pulled through. The heaters were still usable but the quality of the plastic is very poor and brakes very easy.

Not sure what “thickness” rating means…but I’ve given this heater a 4/5 for thickness.

Otherwise; it’s super hot. 7 person ice fishing tent. Keeps it nice and toasty.

imagine 7 shirtless, hairy men with potent morning breath…talking about their luck with women. Then imagine waking up in a tent with a cold butt because the ice has melted and leaked into your tent – so you have to go find your shirt. That’s why I gave it a 4.

Well but. Easy to operate. Convenient to store take with you or move around. I wanted to test pilot, which is usually the worst part of heaters like that. So I took almost empty canister and was pleasantly surprised how easy pilot got ignited. Holder it down for maybe 5-7 sec. And it stayed.
The great thing is u can adjust it between low and high. Sometimes low is too low and high is too high. If you know what I mean. This one u can set anywhere in between and forget about it.
    Great product! Thanks Mr. Heater

Finally! A subtle color for my RV.

Prior to this, I’d owned a bright red Big Buddy heater. Effective? Yes. But 18,000 BTUs was overkill, and the thing was absolutely massive.

Enter the Buddy heater. I bought the kit to attach this to a 20lb propane tank, and the high setting works great at keeping my 30 foot motorhome heated, even at the ski resorts.

The color is so much nicer than the bright red.

Finally, while the Mr. Heater unit does have a low oxygen sensor, we have three CO detectors installed throughout the RV. We’re also sure to leave the window behind the unit cracked open.

As is typical with propane heaters of this type, substantial moisture is generated through combustion. In addition to cracking a window, I would suggest opening your roof vent a bit to minimize condensation.

We prefer using this during the winter over the power hungry and excessively noisy RV furnace. It works like a charm.

I had high hopes for this thing after seeing almost everyone using it for winter camping trips. I was sadly disappointed and ended up returning the product.

We went camping in -21C, absolutely freezing, and at first this thing did a decent enough job bringing our tent to a point where we could fall asleep. However upon first tank change (5 hours into usage) the threading AND seal of the heater immediately got messed up and started leaking/spraying propane inside our tent.

We had to evacuate the tent and warm up by a fire at 5am in -21. It wasn’t the propane tank – as we were using the exact tank the instructions recommended. It completely damaged the heater and now it just sprays propane anytime you try to screw in a new one.

I returned the product and will try a different brand/method going forward.

I often find myself bored to tears on the weekends, especially in the winter. Living in Florida, anything below 60° we crank on the heat and put on longjohns.

One chilly morning it was around 55° in the garage and I was rather cold. I fired this baby up and within about 30 minutes I was nice and toasty. My garage is about 600 ft.² with 12 foot ceilings. I had it on high and it burns a small cylinder of fuel About an hour and a half to two hours

I decided to buy this more expensive model of the Mr. Heater Buddy, the lower priced model had a delayed delivery and I needed it for a then unpcoming trip to Telluride. It was mid-September, my friend and I were basecamping at the annual blues and brews festival there. We expected glorious days in the low to mid 70’s, which we were blessed with, but the overnights got down in the high 30’s with a good frost one morning. Honestly, I was of two minds. If we didn’t need it I send it back still in the box OR if it failed to work at altitude above 7000 feet I would return it. Turns out we did need it AND it worked just fine at 8600 feet. I’m gong to keep it afterall. I can extend my camping season buy at least a month or two in spring and fall here in New Mexico. And it would be very helpful during those rain days when things can get cold and damp even in summer. Maybe some weekends in the winter as well. I plan to buy the case for it at some point. As far as operation it was super easy and super efficient. It does go through the small propane canisters. Following the instructions not to use it while sleeping, we used it in the morning until the sun came up and in the evening before sleeping. Probably less than 3 hours per day; in 5 days we used 2.5 canisters. Not too bad, really. You might opt for the separate tank adapter and consider a larger tank. I have a baby tank I night use in the future but since you MUST keep that outside I probably will just stick with the mini’s. So, that’s it. Couldn’t be more pleased.

Easy to use, works great for taking the humidity out of the tent as well as providing perfect heat in an enclosed space. I used it mainly evenings and
and in the mornings. If left on even for a short time this really can heat a place up in a hurry so with all the mesh in the tents these days which works well to provide the ventilation required the heat obviously goes through the mesh and heats up the outer part of the tent as well so you won’t have to pack up the tent damp. It also works fantastic when left on all night on those below zero nights. At first I worried about oxygen deprivation or carbon monoxide build up, that was unnecessary the unit performed flawlessly and now I view it as I would a dishwasher, a necessary luxury to be sure. I built a carry case out of 3/4 inch plywood to set the unit on in the tent giving it height and and enough weight to provide a solid base and alleviate the chance of a knock down. It also raises the unit above the height of most mattresses etc and when the unit is in use extra propane cylinders can be kept inside. The carry case is open on the top and approximately 18″ square. This works extremely well and for those really concerned about the chance of a spill weights could be stacked into the case. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on sleeping bags over the years some rating to -40 C and still felt chilled winter camping, this could have been avoided had I known…

Havent used it out in the bush yet, but the pilot works basically in 1 or 2 clicks and you do not need to hold it down like the lite buddy. You just turn the dial to low or high and it automatically catches. High is really hot actually, low is perfect if your in a deer stand or in a blind. Dont know how many hours it last for yet but well see! Spend the extra 30 bucks on this one instead of the lite buddy it’s worth it. It is a little big but honestly I leave my heater in my deer stand or blind for the week deer hunt anyways so !

I just use this little buddy to assist in heating up our cabin whilst the wood stove gets going. We live in the great white north and the cabin can get very cold when you first arrive. I know my friend has one for his ice fishing shack and it works great!

I bought this as a back-up for the campervan. Having just spent a small fortune getting the 12 v system retro-fitted with a new power converter and a new circuit board at a proper RV repair shop, and having plugged it in for 4 days at home before the trip, only to find there was nothing coming out of the 12v system, not even lights when we arrived at our campsite without the option of electricity in Jasper National Park (Pocahontas). The heat only lasts for 4hrs 45 minutes on low on a 1lb propane tank so we used two to get us through a very chilly fall night in the mountains. Wonderful back-up product to own for camping but could also be used to take the chill off when ice fishing etc.
