new filter design is garbage. filter lasted 2 weeks in a kids bedroom before the change filter light came on and refused to accept the filter. tried vaccuming it but still wouldn’t work. I put in the old filter design that came with the unit after vaccuming it and it still works fine.
The new filters also fit quite loose which allowed the air to just pull in along the side gaps instead of through the filter. I am now out the money spent as I am not willing to travel to the post office during a pandemic (which is why I used a delivery service) I will not be ordering germ guardian products again.

I feel totally and completely ripped off.
The original filters that came with my air filter were night and day better than these ‘official replacements’. Even when we saved the originals and kept blowing them out with compressed air for more than an entire year before finally breaking down and replacing them with these, they still worked better. Even though the air filter units were struggling to push air through the clogged filters, they still worked better than these. Now I’m seriously regretting throwing them out. These are no better than the much cheaper, non-name-brand replacements I bought a while back. And promptly tossed, because they couldn’t do the job they were meant to do.
The air in our non central-air house is now stale, leaving me to wonder how I’m going to afford some new air filter units from another company after throwing my money away on two of these ‘replacements’ ($72.28 for two, including tax).
I’m coughing, congested, and absolutely miserable. I may have to jury-rig something using the frame of this one.
The carbon pre-filters that come included with these new filters are ABSOLUTE TRASH. They’re thin, see-through, and even the carbon pre-filters that came with my cheap no-name filters are better than these. I honestly wonder how the company expects them to be doing anything at all, other than blocking stray pet hair. Aren’t they meant to help filter smells?
I’m guessing somebody figured they’d save some money by making them about 2/3 – 1/2 the thickness they used to be. If they’ve cheaped out there, I’m left wondering how they’ve cheaped out on the actual filters themselves. Because they are NOT the same anymore.
If you’ve got central air, these are probably fine. But if you don’t… don’t waste your money.

This unit is awesome and the filter replacement seems to make it so the airflow go through better. People are saying it’s thinner and yes it’s true however I do enjoy the fact that it pulls more air in and blows it out better. So no complaints from me. Quick shipping and is pricey I will admit but my first filter that came with unit lastedme a year. So we will see how this one holds up.

I got my Germ Guardian 6 months ago and just recently my red light came in to change the filter. I was looking at the reviews on Amazon and saw that there were mixed reactions. I still purchased because some were positive and the price was better than other places! I’ve tried to touch on some of the concerning reviews I’ve seen and how my experience was similar/different.
Packaging: The package appeared to be just as expected.
Change in appearance: I saw a review that talked about how the filter Looked different and could be a knock off, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. My filter looked like it was good quality and there was an insert that talked about how the product was just redesigned to be efficient so it may look differently
Installation: Installation was super easy and the machine had helpful labels.
Frequency: I now know I should have been cleaning the black filter (not the white accordion filter) monthly so I’ll begin doing that. It recommends changing the entire filter every 6 months which is right when the light came on.
Red to Green Light: I saw someone post that their light was still blinking – After changing the filter just hold down the UV button for about 5 seconds and it will reset the light.
Overall, works great and many of the concerns I had previously from the reviews ended up being manageable! Save money and just purchase from Amazon. You can even set up automatic delivery for 6 months.

I own three of the GermGuardian Air Purifiers and ordered these filters for years. This new filter with the yellow stripe is totally useless! I use them on two machines and they do nothing! The air is simply not “clean”. The purifier is also very noisy which it was not before.
Considering how expensive they are, I feel ripped off. I had them for a while before I needed them, so it’s too late to return them. I am not sure if it is the seller or the change in the filter, but they are nothing like they used to be.

I purchased this Original GermGuardian filter because I thought I would get a better quality filter then a generic brand. The carbon filter is pretty much see-through with lots of holes. Compared to previous GermGuardian filter this is worse then the generic versions out there. Or are they just trying to squeeze more money out of consumers by forcing them to buy replacement filters more often.

This filter is so amazing, I can’t even… It’s better than every other filter that is custom designed, made and constructed by this company specifically for their own machine. That’s what makes it better. Srsly. You go, new filter, do you thang.
Sadly, today it’s $10 cheaper than the day I bought it. I have angst. True angst. There was fist shaking, cursing of the Amazonia pricing matrix, and I *may* have whacked my head on the desk in a fit of cheap-*ss buyer’s remorse.
That said, I do like the machine and what it does for my home environment. Filter on, little buddy. Filter. On.

We’ve had this for about a year and the “change filter” light never came on so I was very sceptical as to if this was working or not (I could have just checked the filter but you know..life). Well the light finally turned on and when I went to change the filter it was completely filled with dust and cat hair. Amazing! We were living in an old house from the 70s, never had cleaned the duct work and had an indoor cat and this thing clearly did it’s job. Highly recommend for small rooms!

It’s easy to tell how good these filters are by opening up your filter machine to replace them every few months. You can easily see the crazy amount of dust, dirt, and other bad air particles which have been filtered out every time. I buy a few at a time now to make sure I can replace them whenever I want. 6 months is recommended, but you can always replace earlier if your air quality has to put up with a lot of dust, dander, pet hair, or other contaminants. Takes 2 seconds to replace the filter as well, which is fantastic.

Items arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. Will fit the unit nicely and keep the air clean for some time. As with some filtration systems the fact that the filters become obsolete and no manufacturer makes them or if they do,then they’re off sized and rarely fit which compromises the operation and efficiency of the filtration system. I have previously purchased different systems and the replacement filters albeit the carbon or paper aren’t available for the models that good money was paid? Once again not the fault of Amazon but falls primarily on the manufacturer.
