Loved that the first time I used it I was able to mark fish under the ice. Was fishing 16foot and caught a dozen fish. Took 1 star away due to the transducer had quit reading a couple times. The transducer that comes with portable kit isn’t made for ice fishing but it does work decent, just isn’t able to get full angles of bottom structure. Worked well enough for me to catch some fish tho!

I really liked this unit and then just over a month the unit started shutting down after 10 seconds on a full charge. I was 2 days out of the return window so the seller was no help at all. Now I have to go through the slow process of getting the unit fixed by Garmin. Save your money and buy something that isn’t a piece of “Garmbage”.

This model is indeed portable. You carry the battery within the provided carrier. The back opens up to provide access to the battery. The terminals attach directly to the battery. That part I would change and would prefer an AB switch of some sort to preclude having to physically detaching connectors in order to charge the battery. I came up with a makeshift sleeve to hang overboard the transponder in the dinghy. I don’t have much confidence in the long term adhesion the suction cup provides. If it was on the transom and gave way it would become part of the propeller for a short time. I going to try a C clamp to hold my makeshift sleeve to support the transponder reliably. My use is in exploring and using as a depth sounder while anchoring. I’ve used it for 2 weeks straight and it appears to be providing me with accurate info.
I have tried the fish finders with the floating bulb transponders and have been disappointed. I can understand why Garmin went with the connected cord.

I bought this to be an attachable unit for my inflateable boat and everything I needed to make it happened came with the package as the description says. (the only things I added my self were the trolling motor mount and a stick of wood to clamp to the motor mount for the transducer).
The carrying shuttle surprised me by even having pegs to wrap up the cord (the bag has an accessibility zipper to get to the cord!!).
Rechargeable battery is a great thing to have with this unit.
I installed it to my inflatable boat and was seeing bottom and fish arcs all day long (even caught a master crappie!).
It was delivered on the expected date.

I’ve only used it for ice fishing but that’s what I bought it for. I’ve used a helix 5 and 7 before and this product works just as well as them. It’s user friendly and the mobile bag is better then humming birds in my opinion. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the transducer is light and sinks slowly plus the cable is very stiff. You have to adjust the transducer angle so it hangs flat as well.
It’s 300-400$ cheaper then a helix and is multi functional. I’m very happy with it.

Amazing fish finder for the money. The Garmin Striker 4, is very portable, unit, battery and transducer fit nicely in the carry bag. Zipper Pocket and zippered openings allow easy access to the battery and the unit.
I use this unit for ice fishing primarily, but also plan to take it out in the kayak. If you want an ice transducer that will need to be purchases separately, however there are several modification videos out there to allow you to use the included transducer on the ice. It would be nice if Garmin offered an Ice version of this kit.
As other reviews have noted the instructions are not the best but there are many videos out there on this unit which I found very helpful. Over all the unit is easy to use.
The battery lasted a full day on the ice with no issues and recharging was easy with the included recharger.
The GPS works well, and we are able to mark various waypoints, be it hazards or fishing holes. I haven’t tested this unit out on a vessel as of yet only out on the ice.
Having a built in flasher was what sold me on this unit, it is great for ice fishing and works very well
Overall very happy with this unit and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a portable depth finder/GPS and not wanting to break the bank.

Well, mixed reactions. The unit and overall package is slick. Like it a lot. On the other hand the instructions leave much to be desired. After going into a catatonic for a week after I looked into the box, I gave it a try. No too bad but if you don’t watch the u-tube videos you may be sunk (so to speak.). The main problem is they make lots of assumptions, like you have done this before. Wrong. The main issue is that the are a couple of key parts that need explaining. The domed assembly that holds the finder simply attatches to the round depression on the mount. The domed piece that is supposed to be mounted to the base has a rotating piece on the bottom that pops out to be mounted on the top, not the bottom as it appears. The point is, check out the videos to make your life easier. Shame on Garmin for such shabby instructions.

Great unit, just what I needed for my small boat and I can use it ice fishing. The battery lasted two days in my boat, and it recharges well. The GPS is great and shows speed on the main screen. It even shows the time of day! And the transducer comes with a large suction cup which I attach to the transom of my boat and it stays on up to 19 mph, my top speed. Overall very pleased with this unit and recommend it to anyone looking for a portable depth finder/GPS.

Use it in the winter on the ice and in the summer on the kayak and works perfectly for both. The flasher mode is instant response and works just how you’d hope. The graphing and the destinations are great. It’s everythjng you’d expect. Wish there was a way to use a SD card with it but it’s a small complaint for a otherwise great product. One year later and it’s working as well as the day I got it and I haven’t been gentle to it. Must have for any small boat or kayak angler that also wants something useful for the winter that in my opinion rivals designated ice flashers.

This is a good cheap sonar! Only disappointment is that you can’t uploand sonar chart in it. Also, the split screen is a bit hard to use if you want to navigate through your waypoints. The CHIRP does works really great compare to the old technology. The batterie life is good and the suction really holds up in the back of the boat. Can’t wait to try it on ice this winter!

This little unit is amazing. Great images, and GPS works great too. I mounted it on the transom with the included suction cup and it stuck really really well. Was going 17MPH and it didn’t budge. Highly recomment

On the advertising for this product it says the transducer can be used for ice fishing but that is bologna. It is really only usuable to be attched to a boat or kayak. You can order a separate transducer but its another 130$. other than that the unit has worked great.
