It is not as sharp and does not resolve colour and detail as well as the 16mm 1.4. Having said that, it is so much easier to carry and I find I am more inclined to use it and be creative. It is equal to the other F2 prime lens.

This is my second Fuji f2 prime having already purchased the amazing XF23mm f2 and again this did not disappoint. Great build quality, stunning colours and clarity. I will be purchasing the Xf50mm f2 soon too as I’ve also heard great things about that lens. I love Fujifilm gear and wouldn’t shoot with anything else!!! Thanks guys

Bought it for the small size and weather resistance – incredibly satisfied with the purchase.
For my day-to-day style of photography, I don’t want to be lugging around big glass. This lens brings together an incredibly small package that packs a very respectable sharpness punch.
Also remember that a 35mm on a Fuji is the full frame equivalent of 52.5mm focal length (crop factor of 1.5).
I find it to be sharpest between F4 to F8; perhaps F4 to F5.6 the sharpest points.

Very impressed with the build quality and performance of this great little prime lens which offers a versatile 53mm equivalent normal view suitable for most situations. Build quality is impressive with a metal satin-finished exterior, engraved markings and solid last-a-long-time feel. No rattling or movement inside. Color, contrast, and sharpness of pictures are satisfying & excellent. Bokeh is very good and will meet most people’s needs. What impressed me the most though, relative to other X-series lenses, was the speed and silence of the internal focus, just touch the focus and boom it’s there with zero fuss or noise, just great! Also the aperture ring has been tightened up with much more distinct stops for more positive settings relative to earlier X-series lenses. Manual focus ring operation is smooth and silky. The included basic small lens hood is made from a high quality plastic that threads onto the end and still allows the easy-to-use lens cap to be attached. An optional larger metal lens hood with a bayonet mount is available if desired. Add weather resistant sealing to the package and you have a superb little gem of a lens that will pair nicely with your X-series camera and look great! Outstanding value (might I say a steal, especially during the Fuji sales) for a do-it-all prime lens. A great choice for your first X-series prime lens. Attached are some pics of the lens and photo’s (JPEG’s straight out of the camera) taken with it for your reference. Happy picture taking!

This is my first Fujinon prime lens and it’s a charm to use!
I was only sad to see the lens distortion profile is automatically applied on most application like Adobe LR and PS , it ruins some of the sharpness and can’t be disactivated… Only way I found would be to use Capture 1…

I received a faulty unit, hunted a lot and missed focus about 1 out of 4 times. Very weird as you get green indicator but the scene is not in focus. According to reviews this lens is supposed to focus well and vey fast so this is obviously a defective copy. No issues returning it, Amazon is great for that.

I don’t know why I took so long to buy this. I started shooting weddings and events using a 35mm and 85mm and then transitioned to zooms after a system change. The 23mm f/2 (~35mm) was the first XF lens I picked up when I bought my X-T20 and naturally I gravitated towards the 56mm f/1.2 given its legendary status and watched so many videos I feel like there isn’t one video I haven’t seen on it.
My deciding factor was the AF speed. The newer XF lenses (the “Fujicron” as you might see online) are insanely fast, it’s like you’re spoiled by the speed.
If you’re a bokeh freak or have big-expensive-lens syndrome, pick up the 56mm f/1.2. Otherwise (other than the ~10mm focal difference), this lens is superior.

As per the rest of the Fujifilm f2 range this is an extremely sharp and contrasty lens with very low distortion and great build quality. Perfect for Street Photography if you don’t like getting too close or for general purpose photography. If you intend to shoot portraits it works fine but I would say it’s not the primary use and there are some other lenses better suited.

Smart and small lens – lovely focal length, super sharp and very fast AF

Careful about the quality of the lens if you want to buy it. this lens here hashorrible problem in quality control! There is dust inside the lens. I shoot the picture in multiple directions and this is definitely not the light but the DUST! How is it possible for a new len has such big flaws. This means the production process of fuji lens has sevious problem and everyone should be careful about it. Check your lens when you receieve it!

Good job to however managed to get fingers prints on the front and back element, you are quite special.
This is a warehouse deal so keep that in mind, not sure if it was amazon or the customer who returned this but either way there was one not so bright person in the equation. The lens performs as expected after a thorough cleaning but let this be a PSA to keep your lenses CLEAN people… They kinda work better when they are clean.

Small, light, sharp and weather resistant. Good colour rendition. Lacks a little micro contrast.
Not many other systems have this sort of quality at this price in this focal length.
Step up in quality and sharpness from the fuji kit zooms.
Great if you like 35mm equivalent field of view.
Not as sharp as my 35mm f1. 4, but much faster focusing and lighter.
Pairs well with all the smaller fuji bodies. Used on xt20 and xm1. It’s now my go to lens for street and casual photography.

This is my very first prime lens and I’m loving it!
I did a lot of research before deciding to pick this up. I’m still new to photography, but regardless I don’t really care about all the technical details that some professionals obsess about. If I like a shot, I like the shot. And this lens captures amazing moments! Significantly different from what I get with my XF16-80mm kit lens.
I didn’t care for how Amazon shipped it though, nor the condition the Fuji box was in so I got it elsewhere. But as for the lens itself: phenomenal!
Happy shopping!
