Better price than you would have to pay to Direct Tv…

Easy setup with Direct Tv…I would recommend this product, and I would purchase it again!

I purchased my HR44 to replace an existing HR34. I’ve been a DirecTV customer for several years and wanted to upgrade my DVR to the HR44 to provide access to the DVR from my mobile devices and because this device is much faster than the older HR34. I am in California and, in deference to the review that stated the HR44 cannot be used in California, mine works great. When I received the unit I unplugged my older receiver and plugged the new HR44 in. I called DirecTV and was able to activate the device very easily. There was no charge for the activation and no additional charges for my monthly service. I pay a connection fee to DirecTV for ‘Advanced Receiver Service’ and this did not change with the upgrade to the HR44. In that this receiver is $299 from DirecTV and I purchased it on Amazon (I purchased a refurbished unit) for less than half that price, this was an excellent value. It also came with a new remote but, as I use a Universal remote, I didn’t really need it. The Universal remote worked with the new HR44 without any changes to the programming. One more thing: since my old HR34 is owned by DirecTV, they are sending me a box to return it to them at no cost. Overall, I’m very pleased with the new HR44 and the install process was easy.

These receivers are still active on someone else’s account and will not be activated by Direct TV no matter how hare you try. Only saving grace was the seller refunded the money promptly.

When I contacted Directv to activate this box, they told me they could activate but it would extend my contract for 2 years or they could send me a refurb box for $22 with no contract extension. Returned.

Love it, Directv don’t offer this unit. I got it for the caller ID, other than that it is the same as Directv’s HR54.
