Gist: too shallow in front top, too narrow in toebox, too loose in heel. And these are 9W. They look great – classic under-stated and simple, but they feel like cheap materials and construction.

First impressions: lightweight; narrower and therefore arguably dressier than Keen shoes which fit wide.

Construction: 7/10, made in India (I visit India periodically, I have stopped buying shoes there – not exactly Germany), leather upper, synthetic lining and sole; some double stitching, which looks conscientiously done.

Fit: OK, so I am size 8.5-9 but should there be 3.5 cm of space after the big toe? Left (smaller foot) too loose in heel. Even right is slightly. 8.5 would fit L better but would they then be to tight in R? I am not going to find out.

Insole: 5/10, cheap, no arch support, wouldn’t be able to replace with orthotics

Sole: 3/10, one-piece cheap (?) plastic, slightly nubby texture and probably better than that of my SuperBirki clogs, but not wet weather confidence-inspiring.

Comfort: 6/10 OK. When walking indoors on hardwood they feel soft enough, also good when tested on hallway carpet. These are *not* hiking or even urban walking shoes, and they are not marketed as such. I would not take these on a walking tour of Kolkata or Budapest.

Ease getting in and out: 3/10, even with elastic on each side of tongue these are hard to put on. Easier to pull off though. Not suitable for my activities in Asia, where according to custom and hygiene I must remove and re-don my footwear dozens of times daily.

Appearance: 7/10, rich ever so slightly burgundy-brown colour, interesting texture; stitching lines accent the length (unnatural shoe shape which does not match the organic real shape, catered to in children’s shoes and Birkenstock type clogs). This design might suit those who want a classic-looking semi-dress shoe. I feel like a university Professor on the job.

Value: 6/10, these might be OK if $50 shoes, but not at $90 CAD after 12.5% in sales taxes. I would rather spend twice the price and get ten times better of a shoe. Seems Clark has lost its place as a high-end shoe manufacturer. But that was what, twenty-five years ago?

My feet: My feet are slightly wide, I have a high arch, slightly high front top of foot and slightly narrow heel, but all within normal parameters. My left foot us 8.5, right 9. Depending on shoe or boot manufacturer and model toe box (and whether I insert a custom/off-the-rack orthotic or use just a silicon heel support [also thickness of sock or bare feet]) I wear between an 8.5 and a 10, typically a 9.

Context: I am comparing to my never-found ideal shoe (very poor) and the best I have found so far – Keen, several models, albeit $120-200+ (poor)

This is my second pair of these shoes, as my first pair that I bought 4 years ago and wear every single day at my job in car sales, have no grip left on the soles. But I’m still keeping the old ones!

These are amazing shoes that seem to last forever!!

I have a wide foot and have worn Clarks shoes for years. I’ve never had a pair that weren’t comfortable. I work in an office environment where business attire is the norm. I bought these to help with a knee issue that my dress shoes were contributing to, I needed more cushion day-in/day-out. They look good enough that I can wear them with a coat and tie and not raise any eyebrows.

I’ve worn them two days so far. They fit just as expected, I wear a 10W in other Clarks models and these are true to that sizing. They are well cushioned, but I could do with a bit more arch support. That’s probably my specific foot talking, not at all a slam on the shoe. I bought these so I don’t have to swap to running shoes when I go for my daily walks on break.

    **UPDATE** I RETURNED THEM
After less than 2 months wearing them, the leather on the left shoe formed a split above the sole. The Soles are some kind of cheap foam that wears waaaaay too fast! Worn smooth under the balls of my feet and heels after moderate use. Now I’m looking at every Clark’s shoe that has this style sole as a no-go. I hate to return them, because they’re so comfy, but the quality is not at all what I’ve come to expect from Clarks.

So I bought these and brought them to Disney World for a week. My Jawbone estimated that I averaged approximately 20,000 steps per day to a whopping total of about 140,000 steps, so I feel particularly qualified to review these shoes.

Post-trip, these shoes have held up remarkably well. There is some expected wear from around the edges, as well as on the sole, maybe ~1 mm. The shoe itself retains its aesthetics from before the trip. During the week at Disney World, the shoe was subjected to rain, varying heat and gravel/sand and I’m quite satisfied with its performance in keeping my feet dry and comfortable. Where my S/O received blisters on her feet wearing Crocs after the second day, my feet remained unaffected for the entire duration of the trip.

I have no complaints about this shoe other than – and remember that this is mostly a characteristic of all shoes – the top of the shoe between the toe and the ankle will crease over time as it bends and flexes. Obviously the severity of this depends on how you plan to use the shoe. Also – read the recommendations of other ratings and get half a shoe size down.

To me, these shoes have already proven their worth, and I’m already considering getting another of the same pair so I have replacements once these ones wear out.

My senior Father walks 10 miles a day in these shoes. I’ve suggested runners but he’s very British and won’t wear ‘sporting shoes’ when out for his walks. His dress shoes aren’t suitable for so much walking, and these fit the bill perfectly.

He had two pairs of these and after two years of alternating between them they’ve had enough wear and tear that he needed replacements. Over time the support in them had started to fail and he’d worn some of the sole down, but from the top they still looked like new. Really, for the amount he walks I’m pretty impressed with how long they lasted.

New ones are the same as the past ones, incredibly lightweight with great cushioning inside. He strikes hard with his heel when he walks and these shoes handle that well. Highly recommend them!

9 would be perfect if there was a wide version, but 9.5 works OK… just a little bit too long… being leather they do stretch out some so give it a bit of time if they initially are a but snug. They are also good leather… none of that fake leather that is just a thin layer over vinyl like some do… scuffs easily buff out with no damage to the appearance of the shoe… had a similar predecessor of the same shoe which lasted 4 years before the soles wore out so I imagine these will wear similarly… might get another pair if I see a good black Friday sale

  10. Really old guy that lovethe idea of young people who enjoy life!

Since my the sharp pain that start dominating my walking and forced limp I vowed to only ever wear shoes that provided support
    These shoes did and do!
Hopefully Clark will continue to provide shoes that make my precious feet feel good!
Shoes are taken for granted till plantar fasciitis strikes!
For me Clark shoes are both attractive and take care of my plantar fasciitis!

EXTREMELY hard inner sole. NOTHING like their former comfortable shoes. I’ve been wearing Clark’s for at least 10 years with several different styles and they have stopped making comfortable shoes! This is my last pair of Clark’s I will buy until they return to their normally comfortable and high quality shoes.

    Are you listening management???

I always buy 8.5, and this shoes fits perfectly (I mean, no need to get higher size). But one of the pairs causes my feet to bleed from the back which stained the shoes while the other one is pressing on my feet thumb while walking. I wish I can return it, as no way to wear it with all this pain.
