This item is NOT the HAC-504AW, but the HAC-504. All images on this listing are correct, but the item title and description are not. After I received the HAC-504, I contacted Amazon and told them it was not the HAC-504AW. They said they would send out the correct item, but the replacement was the same HAC-504.

I find the HAC-504’s more cheaply made and they do not hold up more than 1-2 weeks. This is mainly due to a lack of a reinforced outer shell (which I believe is blue on the HAC-504AW) and the poor glue gun workmanship. After a very short lifespan, the glue loses its adhesion and the filter falls apart.

If you are looking for the better quality made HAC-504AW, stay away from this bait and switch.

Good so far. If I remember to flip it every time (or most times) I fill up the humidifier, no issues. I use it with filtered water and no mould or buildup so far. Haven’t cleaned the humidifiers & it’s been months, inside still spotless. Used to have to clean regularly when I used tap water. I think problems I used to have were due to the tap water, not the filter – filter’s fine!

Works as described, fits my honeywell humidifier perfectly. Remember folks, soak the filter in water before you put it in the first time, and rotate the filter every time you replace the water. This will help it last longer.

A basic replacement of the Honeywell humidifer filter. There’s not a lot to say: It’s just maintaining the performance you would expect from any compatible model.

For those who describe having issues with getting false products: Its important to remember how Amazon categorizes things. They’re, more or less, just tossed into bins of product, so if they are shipped a fake and its not caught, it will go into the bin alongside the real product. If you get a knock off, flag it and exchange it – it shouldn’t be a big problem.

Personally I’ve never had an issue over the 3 or so times I’ve ordered replacements of this, but it’s a popular result I see in the reviews, so figure I would mention.

As for the wicking filter: I recommend following the general maintenance instructions. I have a HEV355C, and once a week I treat the base with a white vinegar solution and scrub to get rid of any mineral deposits, then give the interior a clean of one tablespoon of bleach to an entire container of water, letting it sit for half an hour before rinsing it out. With the filter, keep it away from bleach: Bleach will destroy its antimicrobial properties. Instead soak it in water for the 30 minutes while the main container is being disinfected, occasionally swirling it and dumping/refilling water to help leach out any mineral build up happening on the filter.

So far in ~a year~ of operations I’ve had no issues with mold or mineral build ups. How much of this is due to the wicking filter versus just being on top of maintenance I don’t know, but I wanted to share my routine for those who are having issues.

It is actually the “newer” version with the blue material around the exterior, which is meant to make it last longer but the second day I had it in the machine it was already turning yellow and everyday when I fill up my machine I have to rotate the filter. Its only been 2 1/2 weeks and there is already an odor coming from the filter. The old ones use to last at least a month before they started turning yellow and having an odor

This review is based on use over a full winter season of the HAC-504A in a version of the HCM350 that is the “germ free” cool mist humidifier with the internal UV light that is supposed to kill 99% of bacteria, mold, etc. Use of this filter with the non-UV light version of this humidifier might result in a different average lifespan.

We live in a hard water area and initially contemplated using distilled water, but the cost of about $1/gallon and the use of about one gallon per night for a ~130 square foot bedroom would quickly exceed the cost of a couple filters. We used tap water and the filter eventually developed a light brown, crusty appearance along its edges, even when flipped daily with each reservoir refilling. To prolong filter life, we used two filters during the season on a rotating basis. One in use while the other soaked in a strong white vinegar & water solution until needed. The vinegar solution was effective at removing the hard deposits, but was never able to quite restore the filter to ‘like new’ appearance. But this pretty much maintained effectiveness. Eventually the filters lost some structure and were replaced for this winter. Two for a full winter season seemed fairly reasonable. The humidifier was used every day and rarely sat idle longer than 12 hours, therefore can’t comment on how the filter handles being left in a wet but unused state for prolonged periods, which probably isn’t ideal.

We did not have any problems with the glued seam breaking, though we were careful not to put much stress on this area when soaking them in vinegar during cleaning and while handling during the rinse process. That said, compared to the original filter included with the humidifier, these seemed to be slightly thinner walled than that one.

FWIW, these seem to fluctuate in price. I bought one at around thirteen dollars and a few more at ten dollars in Feb. 2019. Keep an eye on this if you’re thinking about buying a few. That said, price here is still better than most stores.

I run a humidifier for 5 months during winter. Without this filter, I get a lot of white dust. With this filter, it definitely reduces the amount of white dust AND you get cleaner air. By the end of about 30days, you will need to replace the filter, depending on how often you run your humidifier. Mine is on 24/7 set on low. It is an EFFECTIVE product and will purchase again.

I’m so glad Amazon is carrying these filters with the blue fabric on the outside.

They are much durable than older design and I need less of them in the winter. They hold up well.

The trick to make them last longer is to flip the filter upside down every 2-3 days. Photo attached is of the filter after 6 weeks of 24/7 use. Still in great condition.

Amazon has them cheaper than local hardware store.
