I have an old Passport 8500 x50 that I have always used two small Escort suction cups to affix to my windshield. Inevitably these always flatten out and the mount falls off the windshield. I have had to buy replacement suction cups pretty frequently for it. I am hoping this single large Arkon suction mount will hold up longer. It’s at least handling the January 2018 single digit temperatures like a champ, which is a good sign so far. My radar detector did rattle some when I first mounted it so I have added a small piece of card stock (torn off business card) to the mount arm to fix that. I don’t know if that’s due to the age of my radar or something with the mount. I expect to get a long life from this but will update my review if anything goes south.

Quality is alright. Unfortunately I bought this because the small standard suction cups that came with my radar fall a lot but this one falls even more. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to hassle with dash board radar anymore but that’s not the case.

Arkon Radar Detector Car Windshield Mount: $15.93 at the time of review
I picked this windshield mount up for a Passport 9500ix radar detector. I needed something a little more heavy duty to mount it with. That was three years ago and it’s still going strong, with just a couple of nitpicks.
*What I liked*:
The suction is pretty darn good. And thanks to the clamping mechanism, it’s easy to remove.
It’s also easy to adjust the angle up or down of the detector once you’ve installed it.
*What I didn’t like*:
I wish there was a left-right adjustment for it. You can adjust up or down, but where I have it located on my windshield, it would be helpful to be able to adjust it a little more to the right.
I’m not a big fan of the price. It’s just plastic with a little metal clip. $16 bucks is just a little high.
It does occasionally fall off the windshield in the middle of the summer due to the heat.
*The Bottom Line:*
I don’t regret buying this at all (even if I think I overpaid a little). It’s a great aftermarket windshield mount for my Passport detector. Four stars out of five, with that last one getting lost in the price. I would buy this again though.

High quality mount with excellent holding power. Allows for the optimal placement of the detector on the windshield where it is most effective.

Have had zero issues with product put it up once and it has been in place for a few months and works great

It works like it should no defects or complaints. It just does what it is supposed to at a really good price. Definitely a step up from the Basic Escort mount (two suction cups). I have always felt the basic mount from Escort was crud and not functional. You would figure in a $300 detector Escort could include a decent mount. Maybe Escort should start buying their mounts from this seller.
Mags –
Piece of junk. Stuck it on my windshield and as soon as I pushed the suction clamp down the thing exploded. Little plastic clip that holds it all together shattered

Product works and provides much better suction than the old mount.
Splineride –
Works as it should, I haven’t had it fall off the window so far and it’s been 3 months.

Works as promised. Holds better than the one that comes with the radar detector, which kept letting go. It is bigger, so it does block some visibility if placed low on the windshield, but not enough to cause any concern.
Kenneth W. Sparks –
Very solid mount once you apply the suction. Fit the brand of radar detector advertised.
Jokester –
Exactly what I was hoping it would be. Easy to take on and off and not fall off randomly

Sticks really well to the windshield. Comes with a little alcohol pad to wipe clean the windshield first, which is a nice touch. The detector fits onto the bracket very well. The whole thing, mount and detector, is now rock solid on the windshield, no bouncing around like the flimsy thing that came with my Escort Passport always did.
The adjustments are limited to up/down, to match the angle of your windshield. It has no left/right swivel. I wanted to mount it in front of driver, but since my windshield curves, like most (all?) do, the detector would be pointing way off to the left side of the road (Left drive country). It would be nice if it had some sort of left/right swivel. So I am limited to mounting it to the center (left/right) of the windshield. I have it mounted low, to try and pickup laser, though I suppose that is wishful thinking (if they are far away, the beam size is larger, and my car is very small, vertical distance from headlights/license plate, the usual targets for laser, to the bottom of windshield is very small on this car, so plausible).
As someone else mentioned, the up/down adjustment is done via serrated indents, where the angle is locked into steps of up/down adjustment. So its possible that one step will be pointing your detector too high, the next step pointing too low. In such a case, you can remove the flat metal bracket from the plastic it mates to, with two very small Philips screws, and give it a little bend in a vice. I bent it by hand, without taking the flat metal piece off, which was not easy as the metal is not thin, which worked, but also put a little bit of curve into the metal piece, so now detector is more difficult to slide on and off. So I don’t recommend doing it by hand. I will remove it, use my vice to flatten it, then re-bend it.
One pleasant and unexpected result is its now a much shorter reach across the dash to install and remove the detector each time I use it. The detector is now much farther from windshield, compared to the tiny, original mount that came with my detector.
The photo shows the knurled knob which secures the up/down angle on the right side. The unit I received its on the left. Its just a bolt, so I imagine you could reverse it. It does have a square shank on the bolts head end, so that its captive and doesn’t turn as you tighten the knob, so this would only work if both sides of the bracket have a mating square opening, which I have not investigated. But this is really no big deal, as you pretty much set it and forget it. Set it to the angle of your windshield, which you only need to do once.
