When driving in a car a phone is often called upon to provide GPS directions, with maximum screen brightness, and likely playing music. This creates quite a power drain, the result being, your phone likely won’t have much more charge even after being plugged in for a while. This is especially true of large “phablet” size phones like the iPhone PLUS series.
This charger solves that problem as it has plenty of output at 2.4 amps. It ensures that your phone has a decent top-up charge while driving.

Does not fit in all car’s cigarette lighter socket!
The tip of the charger isn’t enough tapered and cannor reach the contact deep in the socket.
Some cars I drive it works perfectly but in some I have a hard time.

After I have left this review AnkerDirect contacted me and sent me as a gift an improved version of the charger the Power Drive 2 Elite.
They have also sent an email a few weeks later asking if the second charger worked out for me. And yes it does!

Bought two of these for myself and recommended to a friend, they really are that good! Both devices receive a good level of charge, the only thing I cannot see happening is if only one usb is in use it is not receiving the full amperage.. might just be my device I need to do some more digging.
I have a Nexus 5x and I do get the “Charging Rapidly” sign when I plug the phone in and I can stream music from Spotify whilst using Google Maps for Navigation and my phone still charges, unlike the last car charger I had (

Perfect – like most Anker products this is a really nice high quality product. The box arrived sealed in a nice small box. On opening the box you are presented with the dual power socket perfectly wrapped and once in your hand instantly feels like a quality product.
The charger fits in my Audi A1 with no problems and the dual socket easily allows me to run both my dash cam off the first socket and my sat nav/iPhone off the second. There’s a little blue light that zones on to confirm there is power.
Overall very happy and highly recommended.

The customer service was absolutely awesome they fix my problem and sent me a new one right away they even sent a follow-up email to make sure that everything was working great highly recommend that you fired because if you have problems that will solve it.
Worked for a while but then just stopped working. I bought it in February and by May it stopped working. I wrote their customer service and we’ll see what their response is I’m hoping they will replace it. The jury is still out. I will update when they reply

No complaints here. Charges both of our phones. I can’t tell if one port is charging faster than the other, but it seems like the top one (above the IQ) seems to but I’m not entirely sure.
Either way, it’s well priced, not sketchy and gets the job done. I had an Anker charger in the past that was made of metal and felt much more durable than this, so let’s hope it stands the test of time but I’m hopeful.
We’re using it on iPhones and it seems to charge them quick enough. Faster than just via-USB in your car, for sure.

Genuine Anker item and works as described. I am surprised that it charged both my devices at once as other chargers which I’ve bought before claimed to do the same but ends up discharging both devices when plugged in. I have tested using two phones on charge, and a battery pack and a phone at the same time and they all charge up without any problems. This is the first car charger I am glad I bought and don’t feel like I have wasted any money.
The only problem I have had with this is charger is when I plug in my aux cable from my phone to the car radio I hear a loud buzzing noise on the radio and it stops when I unplug the charger so I think it may be a problem with the charger (or my car). Not sure if it is because I received a faulty charger or if it is supposed to do that. I have an older Logic3 car charger which I use with the aux cable in but that doesn’t make the same buzzing noise.
Overall, I love this product as it is the best charger I have used as it charges my phone (HTC One M8) reasonably fast, and I have tried other phones too and they all charge quickly and fully. I would recommend this charge to anyone who’s frustrated buying chargers that don’t charge their phone as expected and tired of wasting money on chargers that stop working after a few weeks or months.
I’ve left writing the review until I’ve used the product for a few months so I can comment on the quality and durability, but this has been used almost every day and is still working as if it were still new, charging my phone quickly and fully.

Update, Dec 12th, 2018: I just wanted to commend this company for excellent customer service. The day after I left the review, one of their reps contacted me and offered to send me new fast charging chargers for free. Those chargers worked as promised, fast and beautiful. They followed up to confirm that everything is working fine. Make no mistake, in this day and age of bad customer service, this experience is a rarity and I will look at Anker to buy products before looking at anything else.

This has blown the fuse in my 2012 F150 twice now. I can’t even use it, just switched back to my 400W inverter and use the AC charger from there. I have a high output alternator, all other electronics work fine, but this device keeps blowing fuses. Either it’s defective, or it’s drawing far more aperage than specifed.
I personally wouldn’t recommend this if all of these operate in a similar fashion. To be clear, no other adapters have ever displayed this behaviour and as soon as I stopped using it the problem immediately went away with it. I have used high draw devices through an inverter without issue, but this little power drive 2 is not playing nice with my truck.

In my vehicle the AUX cable and 12v jack are side by side. When charging my phone and using the AUX jack at the same time it results in a high pitched whine through the audio system that scales pretty much proportional to engine RPM.
The research I’ve done on this subject indicates that it’s likely this product is outputting a great deal of EMI from using somewhat cheap components. Can Anker comment perhaps?

I now believe this is related to my car’s electrical system and not a defect of this product. Just be aware when purchasing that this might be a problem for you, too.

Looks like any other 12v cigarette lighter charger. However, Anker has that special magic called “charge IQ”, which means some extra electronics inside the charger that decide how much power your battery needs during different stages of charging. I have experienced battery damaged caused by unregulated chargers, therefore, I only trust the Anker brand chargers to keep my batteries healthy. I no longer suffer from having to charge my battery more often as the phone gets older. The battery keeps its capacity!

Update.
Anker contacted me straight away and offered a newer design. Great customer service.
The newly designed version is much easier to remove due to the ridged edge.
The problem with it jamming in, appears to be related to the to the width of two earth connections on the charger, they get stuck in the internal slots of the sockets on both cars. The width of the earth connectors on the new one look about a mm wider so hopefully will not go into the slot. Failing that it’s a matter of inserting it with the earth connectors 90° round from the slots.
Original Issue.
Difficult to get out of ciggarete holder. Sides are very slippery. No grip.
That was my first impression a month or so ago and I gave it four stars.
Now down to one star as it has now jammed in a different car. Virtually impossible to grip it and pull it out. Had to put gloves on to grip it and pull it so hard it pulled the whole socket out of the dash !!!
Might be a one off issue but when it jammed in two different cars there must be an issue with the design.

As I’ve said in other reviews I’ve become a big fan of Anker’s products and this is no expection. Realized that the USB car lighter adapter I was using was not charging my devices well. That’s when I realized it was only a 1A and devices like iPhone Plus can use 2A to charge quicker. The difference was instantly noticeable after just one drive. My phone regained its charge as if it was plugged into my wall charger. There’s two ports so I could even charge a passenger’s phone at the same time. It has a small LED that lets you know its on which I like that its subtle. Definitely worth getting if you need an in-car charging solution.
