I purchased this product with the expectation it was brand new only to find that it came used and poorly packaged. Opening the package I find a camera box, clearly opened and that had received a pretty significant blow. Upon opening the camera box, worst unboxing ever, I find several opened and empty plastic bags for the parts that I later find showed in the box like a grocery bag. Pulling out the camera itself, I find that somebody, previous owner most likely, has attached the lanyard for me, nice, and left his finger prints all over the flip screen. I mean seriously Canon?! Oh! Almost forgot, no warranty card or manual in the box. I guess no “Quality Control” over at Canon? Lets make this right, please

Fully featured in a small package.
I own a Canon T6S with a few nice glass and the only thing I miss on the M50 is having seperate dial for Aparture and shutter speed. It’s very small compared to the T6S and looks silly when used with the adapter and the Tamron 70-200G2, but it works great.
Dual pixel focus is a blessing, faster and more accurate than the T6S specially on video work.
Take time to analyse the limitation of the 4k before you buy (many youtube videos on the subject)
All in all, it’s a great second camera for what I do !

It worked for couple of clicks and then suddenly stopped working. It is not getting switched on. Not sure what to do. Feeling regret of buying it online.

If you are into 4k video, you need to move on… the M50 is a great photo camera. It is as good as or better than an 80D or 7D and rivals the 6D full frame. They call it an entry camera, only because they want you to spend more. Yes it is not weather sealed. I don’t take my camera scuba diving, but the images and flexibility of this camera is phenomenal. So aside from the the 4k issue..(ever try editing 4K? forget it), this will give you just as good photos as any camera costing as 4 times as much and be FAR more practical. It is small and light. No need to carry a brick. I have owned a 60D for years and also an 80D… how nice to b able to put a nice 22mm F2 lens on the camera and stick it into my pocket, and when needed my 18-135 or 55-250mm lens works great, though you do have to buy a Comlite adapter… Love it!

This is my first high-quality camera. And, I am still exploring.
Image quality and video quality seem really good.
The full rotatable touch screen, mic input, and good user interface make it a very good deal for me, as I plan to do personal content creation.
I considered the Sony a5100 as an option, but could not make the compromises and got this instead. But, the Sony a5100/6000 is great value for money even today, if you want it only for still photography.
I got the m50 at around 51k on Amazon Prime day. I think you can wait if you plan to buy. In the US it costs only 650-700 bucks, so the Indian price may reduce in a while.
I would recommend the EF to EF-M mount adapter along with the Canon 50mm F1.8 STM lens, or even the EF-M 22mm F2 lens if you prefer the compact form factor (no adapter business). They do make a significant quality difference in portrait photography and further improve the sharpness of the camera. I would add some sample clicks in the future with my Nifty Fifty lens.
The supplied carry bag is too big, hence I bought the Amazon Basics Carry bag for Compact Cameras, and that fits it well (even some of the other mirrorless cameras too). The m50 is now in a really compact package and I can take it along easily in my backpack most of the time.
Update: May 2019
1. Since now this is available at below 50k, with offers and discounts it can be owned at 45k, this is a steal in my honest opinion.
2. Added sample photos!!! Particularly from the popular 50mm f1.8 lens, used with an adaptor.
Update: September 2019
1. I am enjoying the camera more and more, the camera has just the right amount of controls for a beginner.
2. I came to know about Viltrox Speed Booster for M50. Adding a speed booster is an awesome way to make the camera much more capable. Planning to buy it, but would probably directly get it from US or China.
Update: December 2020
1. Sigma lenses have made this EOS-M series cameras way more complete and worth than ever.
2. I strongly recommend the “16mm F1.4 Sigma” for Vlogging, “30mm F1.4 Sigma” or “32mm F1.4 Canon” for Street and Portraits.
3. But, the “56mm F1.4 Sigma”, I would settle with the “50mm F.18 Canon” for the value it offers.
Moreover, there is an update to the original Canon M50 with a Mark ii, with an almost identical feature set.
I don’t know why Canon calls it mark ii.
Also, if you plan on serious content creation and want the best quality, in the long run, I would recommend the Canon EOS RP (Body only) with Canon EF 17-40mm and 50mm (Nifty-fifty)

This is a brilliant camera in every sense. The controls take a little getting used to for someone who has only used a mobile phone camera but once mastered, there is no looking back. Great images with great clarity.
The detail is fantastic and even with the standard lens, the zoom brilliant.
I am a landscape and wide angle photographer and cannot wait to buy the wide lens.
Take a look at the images below taken by a new to DSLR amateur.

I bought this camera with a lot of hope after looking at all the specs and features. I went through every single detail and dozens of youtube videos before buying it. So when i finally got it, i was very very disappointed for 2 weeks due to the hyped up expectations. But the third week i discovered more and got familiar with controls a bit more. What i figured out was that this camera is just brilliant. The controls are so simple that you want to focus on photography more than struggling with controls. I miss the DSLR grip but M50 is equally good once you get use to it. You can notice
the Digic 8 image processing. No to forget the videos are just amazing. Never used 4K, but just 1080P 60FPS is simply beautiful. Moving from a 70D to M50 i can now say am very happy. I am using VILTROX adaptor with 50MM 1.4 and i feel blessed, hahaha.

I love this thing, I bought it mainly to make videos and take occasional pictures. Learned to use all its functions on a 5 day trip to the Canadian Rockies. Very versatile and perfect for beginners. The video quality is very comparable to higher end cameras. In my opinion, an ND filter is a must for shooting outdoors if you want to properly control your depth of field and exposure. My friends had canon rebels and other DSLR’s… this felt more premium and compact in comparison. It’s significantly smaller than your typical DSLR, which is nice. It’s got some weight to it and it’s materials feel premium. Pair this with an external mic and an ND filter and you have a great video camera… might need a lens or two in the future as the included lens is somewhat limited.

I bought this to replace my Canon 600D DSLR camera I purchased more than 6 years ago. Compared to 600D this camera is small, light weight and build quality is also much better. Initially it may take a couple days to get used to electronic view finder as there is a small delay (may be fraction of second). It takes excellent photos with punchy colours in JPEG and videos. I have yet to try 4k video as it fill up the card very quickly. The bundled kit lens is very compact and good quality for its price.
If you are new to DSLR or already own an entry level DSLR you can give this one a try. The other comparable (mirrorless) cameras are offerings from Fuji. I had played with it Fuji cameras during a US visit, XT-20 is an excellent camera with great kit lens but about 30k pricey in India. I am not also sure about after sale service for Fujis in India, so did not want to take risk. Sony’s A6300 is also another comparable camera but it is 4 years old already. Since I already own a Sony RX100 P&S camera did look into Sony cameras further.
I will stick with only the Kit lens for an year or so before buying other lenses. I’ll update the review in few months.

Great camera for beginners into video. Three things though:
1. Dual pixel autofocus does not work in 4K. It was disabled by Canon in order to not compete with their higher end cameras.
2. Shooting in 4K crops your picture significantly (1.6 times I think) so keep than in mind.
3. 4K video suffers from significant shutter roll (when panning the camera sideways, vertical lines become slanted).

This is my first foray into the world of amateur photography, and after tons of research and consulting with a professional photographer, I’m proud and confident to say that I am thrilled with this purchase. The camera is incredibly easy to use, and is small enough that I feel comfortable taking it anywhere. That being said, compared to other mirrorless cameras, this is one of the bigger cameras on the market.
Burak –
Few things to consider:
– Not a small camera compared to the other mirrorless brands.
– It doesn’t feel sturdy.
– The lens had a wiggly feel, like it was broken then reattached but wasn’t fixed properly.
