I bought this to replace a Sony XB40 that wasn’t holding a charge. I wasn’t expecting much based on the price ($90 Cdn. after a coupon), but this boombox is great. It’s really loud and has decent bass, and minimal distortion at full volume. My only criticism here is that the volume goes up/down in steps, and it’s actually the low-end that could use an extra “step” – it’s still pretty loud at the last step before it goes to mute. In terms of sound fidelity it might not beat a Sony or JBL, but for outdoor listening the volume and quality is great, and it’s a fraction of the price of the big names (and let’s face it, if peak sound fidelity is your main concern, get some headphones and not a bluetooth speaker…). It’s not waterproof, just water resistant, but I’ve had it out in heavy rain and snow, plus it got dropped into a hot tub briefly by accident and still works fine, so big points there. It’s also been dropped a few times, and the steel front grill and plastic casing took no damage whatsoever, this speaker is a tank. The battery life is also excellent – playing at full blast it gets well over twice the playtime my XB40 delivered when those speakers were new. I also love the built-in SD card slot – I have a 128GB mini SD card filled with music, so I don’t have to use Bluetooth streaming/a separate playback device unless I want to, the speakers can be totally self-contained. The main down-side is that it’s heavy and bulky. The internal battery is huge, and its weight makes this set of speakers a brick, so if you’re backpacking this isn’t going to be the player for you (although the volume should be more than enough to discourage campsite visits by bears…). It also has a large hard plastic carrying handle, which makes it much more bulky than it needs to be – a fabric handle (or a removable one) would have cut the bulk down substantially. This speaker isn’t made for ultra-portability, so don’t expect something light/small. But the tradeoff is that the performance and general value for money is really, really big in my view. All told, these speakers have tons of volume and HUGE battery life that blows away the Sony XB series and JBL Charge series, yet comes in at less than half their price. These are affordable but they definitely don’t sound like a budget speaker, and I haven’t come across any other similar-sized bluetooth speakers yet that can match the battery life.

I think this is the best value out there for larger Bluetooth speakers.
I compared this unit with other, “major competitors”, (the UE Boom and the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom), around my home, for a week or more.
In my opinion, after testing the three units with the same music and in the same conditions I find:
1. The W-King produces a lot more volume and a lot more bass. If you are looking for an outdoor use speaker – the W-King performs! Bass radiator is massive. Overall SPL considerably more.
2. Charge capacity: Excellent. The battery performance is excellent. I played it loud for hours and barely put a dent in the reading. I really like that you can use the large battery to keep other devices charged.
3. Features: LOTS. I have not tried to play music from the card-slot but I like that it has this feature, for use when Wi-fi is not available. The ability to use it for phone calls is a bonus. I do not require any more waterproofness than this has; it is IP6 I believe, rain and hose-proof… I do not intend to float it in a pool so this is perfectly adequate.
Build quality is very good. It’s a formidable unit – it’s heavy. I don’t mind that at all!
The handle is robust and the speaker does not move around when playing really loud because the grips on the bottom, work. It is not as portable as the UE Boom – but it crushes the UE Boom in performance and is the clear choice for outdoor use.
I also like that it does NOT turn itself off or disconnect from the source too quickly. I leave mine connected to a laptop most of the time – and keep it plugged in on charge. The other two speakers turned themselves off way too soon when the signal was removed; that seemed rather dumb when it was still being charged.
And speaking of charge – this unit came with ROBUST cables and the charge cable is a USB-C cable – like most modern electronics.
Yup – this is the one I picked and I’m glad!

This was a recommendation from a friend and it turned out to be solid pick. Initially upon hearing the name I thought it was some obscure third party brand, but after some quick research I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was quite a lot of information, reviews, and general positive feedback that made the decision even easier. I’ve tested units that cost double this and I personally cannot tell the difference. It’s crisp, it’s loud, and best of all the battery just seems endless. It’s even got enough to juice to power other items. This will be replacing a outdoor speaker that’s very basic – while the main core of it is to play music, this one has so many more modern touches that make it feel like it’s updated for today.
For example, connectivity is secure and to date it hasn’t dropped or blipped. You can connect it with another one of these speakers together to make for some pretty big surround sound. And last but not least, it’s IPX6 waterproof making it really meant to be used in different elements. I’m used to smaller units having this, but usually not for something of this size and power capabilities.

WOW! I am really enjoying this speaker. The video doesn’t do it justice. You can feel the bass. I don’t have anything to compare it to because this is all I own, but I am super happy with it. You can feel the bass and hear the speaker throughout the house. I would say this would be good for a small backyard or sitting next to it on the beach

I love this speaker, and I waited months to obtain a second one under the premisis that they could both be paired. However, note that the D9 and the D9-1 are not compatible for pairing, as per the user manual that came with my second speaker, the D9-1. Apparently the reason being the worldwide chip shortage. Yikes, I really wish I knew this before I ordered a second one. Perhaps the seller should clarify this is a new version so someone else doesn’t make this mistake.
