OK.
I’ve always had a hard time PC shopping, and I’ve always wanted a gaming laptop – yea im one of “those guys”, and this lil devil really gives you a run for your money! It’s almost like Acer themselves saw me purchase their office laptop for $500 in at Wal-Mart circa 2010 in a futile attempt to game – took my disappointment and expanded on improving!
If you’re on a budget AND truly lack space or power bar location for a tower this machine is FOR YOU! awesome speed and power when gaming even new titles like DOOM: eternal, of course the CPU get quite hot BUT the cooling system they’ve installed I personally find great! I keep mine elevated on an old laptop cooling base, it’s perfect. Some may find the fan noise to be too loud but it’s never bothered me and never been loud enough to hear over mic.
THE ONLY THING you drastically need is another 8gb of RAM. The machine only comes with one stick, so grab another on your way out of the checkout. SUPER easy to install, MAKE SURE you have some sort of plastic pry tool that wont scratch up the case. The case is held with plastic snaps which i don’t agree but don’t cause major issues. 16 gb is MORE than enough RAM for any game you wish to play i promise you.
Running like a dream so far and I’m SUPER satisfied with the value and performance.
Cheers!

A very good laptop for a very affordable price.
For $850 you can’t get a better gaming laptop. The performance of this laptop from the games I’ve played has really surprised me. In Rainbow Six Siege I’m getting 100 or so FPS on the highest settings, meanwhile newer AAA games like AC: Odyssey get 45-60 on high settings.
However I would strongly recommend spending another $100 and getting another 8gb of RAM and 1tb of storage as this laptop doesn’t come with much space and upgrading the RAM increases the performance on newer games. It was really easy to upgrade both the storage and RAM I used a video guide for reference and had no problems.
The laptop does get loud when under heavy load but I barely notice the fans when I have a headset and when the laptop is idle it’s very faint. The Nitro 5 can also get quite warm sometimes but It’s not much of a problem if you have a cool room.
I tested the battery life and got around 6-7 hours using battery saver mode the whole time. But if you try to game while on battery you’ll be lucky to get 2.
Overall not much to complain about, all I recommend is you buy another 8gb of RAM and some more storage abd you’re good to go.

When this computer arrived, upon first turning it on, the screen went black after a few seconds. It can be “woken” with a Fn F6 key press, but will go black again after a few seconds. This will repeat for 10-15 minutes, and then stop. It happens every time the computer is turned on or woken from sleep. I spent 2 hours with Acer support trying to solve this issue, but could not. I had to send the computer to Acer for repair, which is currently being done. The computer itself worked great, and had no issues when connected to an external monitor, but the screen being inoperative is a massive issue.
I will update this review if/when the repair is completed (fingers crossed)

Excellent gaming laptop for the price. But, I suggest you add another 8GB ram asap. It works great with 8GB, but 16GB is the best. Battery last long time.
If you don’t like Red keyboard backlight and or keys, this is not for you.

The following ram works perfectly to upgrade from 8 to 16GB:
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2666MHZ SODIMM KCP426SS8/8
This is for the Core i5-9300H version, but should be just fine for any AN515-54-58XX model.
Computer is great, by the way.

Tried to install a 2.5 inches HDD from my old laptop. Had no luck because 9.5mm thick HDD is too much for the computer. Could not tight up the computer back cover but it will clamp the HDD and prevent it from working. I guess it only takes 2.5 inches HDD of 7mm. Took me a while to figure out. Installed a 500GB M.2 SSD instead. This computer only came with 250GB storage out of the box, so it want user to DIY add storage. Hope this review can be helpful to others.

I could go on forever about how awful this laptop is. But the bottom line is that IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY PLAY GAMES YOU NEED STORAGE. THIS LAPTOP HAS NONE. NONE. And the reason I say none is because I seriously could only download 1 game. That’s it. That’s all. 1 game. Doesn’t run great, nothing special at all. If you’re going to blow this much money DO NOT WASTE IT ON THIS. You could buy a non gaming laptop for waaaay cheaper that would even run better than this and you could download most likely all the games you want with no issues…..please PLEASE take my advice and don’t buy this laptop ITS NOT WORTH IT!!

The 1 star is for the poor quality control by Acer.
I received the laptop and immediately started to set it up. Upon entering my info I noticed that the D key was not working. I put in a call to Acer tech support and have to send the laptop in to get repaired… the brand new out of the box product. Now I have to repackage everything, wait for a shipping label, drop it off and wait 7-10 business days (fancy wording for two weeks) instead of working on projects that I bought the laptop for. So at this point I am very disappointed in Acer’s quality control.
I can’t really review the laptop itself since it was defective from the start. I’m hoping that is the only issue with the machine as most reviews I’ve read about the Nitro 5 are positive.
Update: It has been 22 days since I received the brand new laptop from Amazon. Acer repair has had the laptop for 14 days now and I still have not received any info about the status of my case other than it is still being repaired. I am not happy about having to wait 3+ weeks to have a brand new working laptop.

At $579.99 for the AN515-54-5812 it’s A REAL DEAL!!! Since the unboxing I have liked it’s features and performance… It can be upgraded in storage and RAM. I will recommend this machine to my friends and family.

Some things worth noting for this laptop.
The CPU and the network card were the only parts that were kinda annoying. The cpu heats up to 90 degrees quite easily if you run the pc at high performance and that’s fine for a gaming laptop however it meant I had to put the fans on max which I don’t like, and the network card had connection issues which i managed to fix by trying solutions in acer forums.
The keyboard, its decent enough for typing but the right shift key is a bit smaller than normal which is kinda awkward. I’d recommend getting a good external HDD along with it since you only have like 180 gigs of available on-board storage.
The GPU is a good one for the price and you can comfortably play the latest games with 50-60 fps at low-mid settings. You can play League, Csgo, Valorant, Fortnite at the highest settings with well over 100 fps.
DO run a windows update right after you get the laptop and DO NOT update the bios.
