I held off writing this for almost 2 weeks to make sure this was a fair review.
I bought two cameras – one for mine and one for my wife’s car.

Feels well made – fit, function and aesthetics are all acceptable.
A breeze to install…. and I’m picky about things – EXACT position of mount, camera location, focal point, wiring path from unit to power plug etc.
Very simple/intuitive process to scroll through the menus and set up program to my liking. Almost had me baffled when trying to add my license stamp on screen but with a few varied attempts I made it happen.

Manual is NOT user friendly… basically just a replica of anything on screen …and with Chinese to English translations. It would help to have someone who always lived in North America to write overseas manuals for the North American market.

Don’t like that it only holds a 32 Gb card – which DOES NOT come with !

Wifi tries to work…. and occasionally does attach to my iPhone… for a short minute or so but mostly it is a black screen. I attempted to contact Chortau about this but have not heard back ….YET.
UPDATE (late September 2020) They contacted me and we tried various things a few times but they finally admitted – wifi does NOT work with iPhone.
When Wifi did work I was able to adjust the camera programming or watch live feed on my iPhone but it won’t let you look at anything already recorded.

Nice that it came with thumb drive/adapter to view videos on a computer afterwards.

Whether driving at 50 or 120 Km/hr. all road signs are crystal clear, as is most scenery, light standards, overhead wires, cars etc.
License plates are NOT clear unless you are directly behind at a stop sign or stoplight.
Videos look awesome when viewed directly on the flat screen TV (48″) but you still can’t make out plate numbers if more than 4 car lengths away.
Automatic exposure adaptation for under bridges and through tunnels is adequate… takes less than a second…. just like your eyes do.
Works as expected for dawn and dusk drives with occasional glare from the sun when on the horizon.
Night vision is not the greatest – best is to manually reset the exposure for night rides but that makes a bit of a washout from direct oncoming traffic.
I drive an hour on the highway to and from work each day. Camera gets warm (as anything electronic does) but it doesn’t get anywhere near as hot as my iPhone 8 screen if on google maps driving with directions.

Attachment to windshield with 3M tape holds well so far. It’s been between 21°C and 29°C outside each day and more than 38°C in the closed locked car all day – no issue with staying attached.

Motion detection is either too tight… or too loose. The parking lot at my work has lots of movement but the camera picks up ANYTHING, even at a great distance…. and stays on… forever – regardless of setting !

One thing that REALLY ticked me off – 3 days after Amazon delivered the cameras were on sale for $20 less EACH ! This would have paid for the micro usb cards that are not included.

All in all – For a first dashcam – I can’t complain.

UPDATE (November 2020] Still no complaints… works no issue, we’ll see come winter!

2nd update (May 2021) Still working , no issues. Winter was cold. Got down to -28 and camera still worked fine. Stayed attached to windshield, card still works, never had power problems either.
Have had 3 close calls and this thing captured them perfectly.

Third update (Aug 2021) Still works perfectly. Summer has been hot (up to 39°C) and my car sits out in it 24/7. It has been hot as H&LL inside the vehicle (up to 51°C !! ) but the adhesive has stayed stuck no problem. Camera works exactly like it did on day one. No distortion, no issues at all. Card still reads fine, videos all look awesome on the big screen tv. I was told to format the card once a month, so I do… and it still works perfect too.
My wife is retired now so her car (and camera) mostly sit idle, baking in the sun……and it works exact same as mine – no issues AT ALL.

Great dash cam for the price. Had no trouble installing the unit. The wiring was easily and discreetly run around the windscreen using the handy blue tool. It can be hidden right behind the rear view mirror so there are no distractions while driving. So far so good.
I look forward to using it for my upcoming road trip.

I’ve had the camera for a few months now. Honestly not bad for the price, decent quality camera. A little confusing to operate but once it’s setup you just leave it and forget it’s even there. Comes on and off on its own. One issue I’m having is the adhesive, this summer the camera has fallen off twice, due to the heat I assume. And the adhesive does not work anymore afterwards. The camera did come with some extra adhesive pads but I’m on my last one, not sure if there is another brand of adhesive or something better to connect the camera to the glass. I’d even be willing to just get more. Digestives and replace it every now and then when it’s falling off.
