Nana Saheb Nana Saheb , the adopted son of the exiled Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao II, emerged as a significant leader in Kanpur. In June 1857, he attacked the British soldiers of the 53rd Native Infantry alongside Tantia Tope, targeting the British East India Company’s entrenchment under General Sir Hugh Wheeler. Nana Saheb Peshwa II (19 May 1824 – after 1857), born Nana Govind Dhondu Pant, was an Indian aristocrat and fighter who led the Siege of Cawnpore (Kanpur) during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the East India Company. Shrimant Peshwa Balaji Rao Bhat, commonly known as Nana Saheb , was the eighth Peshwa of the Maratha Empire in India, reigning from December 8, 1720, until June 23, 1761. Nana Sahib was a prominent leader in the Indian Mutiny of 1857–58. Although he did not plan the outbreak, he assumed leadership of the sepoys (British-employed Indian soldiers).
