A 12-hour drive from Rishikesh, Gangotri is nestled among lofty Garhwal Himalayan peaks, glaciers and dense forests, and is one of highest pilgrimages in India (approx 3,415 m). Other than its divine atmosphere, Gangotri offers stunning vistas all around. Being one of the four important Hindu pilgrimage sites- Char Dham, Gangotri draws thousands of devotees every year. This small village attracts nature lovers, spirituality seekers, and adventurers with its beautiful views and divinity. Gangotri , a Uttarakhand township, located 11,200 feet above sea level, is widely revered as one of the state's holiest sites due to the serenity and beauty it affords its residents at that altitude. Gangotri is the easiest to reach (by direct bus or taxi) out of the char dhams. It is located 300 km from Rishikesh and 100 from Uttarkashi. The main attraction of Gangotri is the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Ma Ganga. The temple remains open for 6 months each year, from May to November.
