Web Description states that there are over 300 apps and in reality there is only like 20 or so and all but two of them are shovel ware. I wanted to return the unit but Electronique HiFi required so much information to return it that it would have cost me almost $40 to return it properly. Sender simply slapped a shipping label to the original box and in order to return i would have purchased a box to ship it in plus packing materials plus printing out all of the return labels and finally actually paying for return shipping.
To top it all off I have used it to watch 2 dvds and now it is not working. Utter waste of money and will now be opening a ticket with Amazon because this is a bunch of baloney.
Seller even misused my personal information to send me a TEXT to ask for a feedback review… well here ya go, i hope it was worth invading my privacy and misusing my information to get this lovely feedback review.

Picture quality is poor at best. Using the HDMI cable I set the resolution at 1080p but was very disappointed in the overall picture quality on DVD/Blu-ray. In addition to poor quality picture when viewing DVD/Blu-ray movies the preinstalled streaming apps are very limited and nothing I would use but only YouTube. There is no ability to install Prime as this player is not capable to do such. Using the pre-installed YouTube app found the picture quality was even worse than the DVD/Blu-ray movie even using the 1080P setting. Lastly the YouTube app was lagging and seem to take too long to load streaming content even though I have the fastest internet available. My X-Box is far superior in picture quality even using the 720P resolution.

After less than the two months since I started using it the disc drive won’t respond to remote or eject disc button on the player itself.
Now I can’t watch my own DVD or blurays and I have bluray stuck in the player that I can’t get out
I need the company to read this and either refund me my money or send me a new one that works

I just received this blu-ray player. I was very happy, initially, with the size (compact and light), price, and picture quality (very good). The set-up was a breeze. The only thing I did not like, and that infuriates me, is when a company conducts bait and switch operations. Or perhaps it wasn’t intentional or malicious. Perhaps its because Sony doesn’t take the time to update product features and specifications so consumers can make a informed choice.
I bought this “best seller” blu-ray player for a few reasons. The price and reviews were very good. I was replacing a very old blu-ray player (15+ yrs). One of the MAIN reasons I bought this player was that its could stream pre-loaded Apps, including Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, and…Amazon Prime Video. Being a Prime member, this was a HUGE selling point.
After receiving the unit yesterday, I set it up. Easy. Within minutes everything was done and a disc was playing. I then explored the Apps. Most of them were generic and Apps to sites/companies I had never heard of. But, after a lot of searching, I still couldn’t find Amazon Prime Video. I went back to the Amazon description page, to make sure I had not confused this player with the others I had researched. Sure enough, at the bottom, it mentioned Amazon video. I then went to google, and found a review through an independent site. Yep, states it comes with Amazon video App. I then went to the sony site, looked up this specific model, and what do you know? It should have the Amazon Prime Video App installed. I looked at my blu-ray unit again, convinced that I had ignorantly missed seeing the App. Not there!!!!! Grrrrrrr. Well, after a brief online chat with a Sony customer service representative, I found out that the App is included with this model…as long as the serial number was before 4000000. After that number, Sony no longer loaded the App. Of course, they aren’t going to mention that on any features page because it may inhibit sales. Or they are too lazy to update their specifications. I don’t know which scenario is worse.
Anyway, I am submitting this review for anyone who may have considered this product for that same main reason, having Amazon Prime Video access on their player. Otherwise, it seems to be a pretty good player, especially for the money. But I hate feeling like I’m an unimportant cog in a companies’ sales journey. I seriously doubt I will ever buy another Sony product. How could I? Are they being truthful and complete about the information they are advertising? Are the descriptors updated? Your guess is as good as mine.

The box this player comes in says it streams Prime video but it does not and there is no way to download additional apps. When I went to Sony’s own website it even states there that there is no way to download apps. I’m not sure why the box it comes in would be so misleading.
The device also likes to freeze on occasion. I just unplug it and then plug it back in to make it work again. This would be fine if it was an old player, but it’s brand new. Maybe I’m weird, but I just think that brand new things should work properly.
I am returning this product primarily due to the false advertising on the box. I had bought this intending to stream Prime video.

I have now returned this unit. When one buys as much as I do from Amazon, there will be some lemons among them. The true merits of a company is there return policy, and Amazon return was fast and easy. However, I am turned off by the durability of Sony products, so I will likely stay away from such.
I was immediately disappointed that this did not receive Amazon Prime Movies as that was a major reason for buying this model. When I called for tech support he explained that Amazon Prime needed to be preinstalled and cannot be added after purchase. I was happy with the picture quality and I could get Tubi and YouTube, so I decided I’d live with it, until this weekend. Suddenly it is not connecting to the internet. I tried a reboot and reinstalling the wireless connection several times. It connected to the router but not the internet. Eventually, after a further reinstall, it indicated it was connected, but both tubi and youtube came up with a no internet error. I can connect and stream movies on my computer and my tablet, so my network is connected. This bluray player is going to be returned.

I bought this to replace a old Sony DVD player that cratered. First the good – It upscales standard definition DVD to HD which provides a great picture. The “bad” – It’s supposed to have ‘Super quick start’ which is supposed play discs ‘almost instantly with a fast boot-up of under a second’. It doesn’t. I don’t think it is any faster than my old DVD player. Also, the old player’ remote had a ‘skip ahead’ button that I could use to jump through intros. This one doesn’t.

Seems odd that a product sold by Amazon is incapable of streaming Prime Video. According to Sony Tech support, the Prime app is not present and it is not possible to add apps not already on the unit.
The big red flag I missed was the unit is a 2016 one despite appearing and described as new.

compre este blu-ray por que según podia tener prime video. y no se puede. despues de muchoooo investigar encontre que no se puede. lastima tendre que seguir con netflix. si me siento medio engañado. nimodo. el equipo es bueno en general. solo no tiene prime. nimodo anexo fuente.
Very disappointed with this purchase. Firmware very glitchy, slow, and unit freezes up often and need to reboot by unplugging and plugging back in. No new firmware upgrades available to solve this. Unfortunately I threw away the box too soon and can’t return it. Total waste of money and I never expected this from a name brand Sony product.
