The permutations for this Receiver are many and varied. I’ve done live sound engineering for 40+ years at gigs etc and enjoy good sound quality, I’m also reasonably comfortable with the technology and physics concepts involved. However it took me quite a while to find a set up combination & configuration that I really liked.
The Auto EQ function is a good start but you need to play with it a bit more and understand all the Variations / Effects / Set up Features the Amp offers to get the best out of it – at least that was my experience. Not everything it offers is intuitive either. Some research on the features may be a help.
Having said that, for the price Id recommend it and definitely buy it again if I needed another. Value for money it’s pretty good.

O produto é excelente e, por sorte, funciona perfeitamente. O problema foi o transporte. Conforme mostram as fotos, a caixa veio amassada. Deve ter sofrido um impacto tremendo, uma vez que chegou a causar dano ao aparelho.

    – Liked the quality, depth of features overall and flexibility for providing sound in two different zones.
    – Only one composite input, only one component input. (barely enough)
    – Liked the phono input
    – Not clear how the 8 quick keys are mapped or how to use them (it took a lot of manual reading)
    – the color keys on the remote are useless.
    – although there is some adjust-ability to each input level, it is not easy to use nor enough
    – creating and deleting memorized presets is non-intuitive

Finally a mature discreet component receiver that shows how Yamaha have stood the test of time. I am comparing this to 3 receivers. It has smooth sound equal to or slightly better than my old (non 4k) Sony but is much more friendly to set up and adjust. To upgrade to 4k I bought an Onkyo 5.2 4k and while it worked as intended it lacked friendly features and soon became apparent it suffers from harsh sound enough to cause listener fatigue. I could not find any dynamic compression and we suffered huge sound volume levels that became unacceptable. Replaced this with a Denon 5.2 4k and that looked to be made by the same third party that made the Onkyo. Horrible volume control bar across the screen and just as harsh. This Yamaha is a dream. Beautiful sound, easy menu access and full of features like dialogue setting, easy speaker adjustments, bass adjustment and dynamic range suitable for home viewing. I believe the video pass-thru is better than the others. There was no setting or adjustment that I could not find easily. Excellent remote and paper instructions included. The only minor negative was the Auto Cal handling of the Sub – it gave a W warning about volume but was real easy to set manually to suit my room. So beware of modern receivers, unless you want scary aggressive sound, trust the mature producers – Yamaha being one of them.

Using HDMI ARC to play audio from Netflix and other apps on my smart TV. Works perfectly, sounds so much better than the TV speakers, HDMI ARC was also noticeably better than using optical between the TV and receiver as well.

Was easy to setup my TV remote to control the volume and mute on the receiver so I only need to use one remote for both. Have not figured out how to change inputs yet but that could be a limitation with my remote, it doesn’t have a lot of buttons. Although if you only have one device plugged into the receiver HDMI in then you can just leave the input on that.

Have the old Wii plugged into it with video passing through to the TV, works flawlessly for that as well.

Bought this receiver with 2 main things in mind:

    1. It “works with Alexa”
    2. For the Dolby Atmos support.

So, I setup an entire room for a good gaming and movie watching experience, cutting holes in the ceiling for the Presence Speakers (Atmos), etc. My setup is a 7.1.2.

The sound quality is better than I expected and the settings possibilities are almost infinite. I have Yamaha, Technics and Klipsch speakers.

My main disappointments so far are:
    1. You cannot have the presence (Atmos) speakers and surround back speakers going simultaneously! Just found it out today after everything is installed. I have been researching this issue for days and after a lot of digging, I got my answers not from Yamaha, but in the forums.
    2. The “works with Alexa” part is a joke. You have to add the Musicast skill on Alexa and that’s all it does. You have very limited control of the Musicast speakers. You can’t turn on the units, change inputs, etc. Nope.

**** UPDATE 1: After 2 weeks of operation, the Front Right channel stopped working. Went through the troubleshooting steps, called service and they wanted to give me a discount to convince me to keep the defective unit. I returned it.

**** UPDATE 2: Received a new unit. Worked great for a day. Now I get the message of “Function Not Available” when I try to choose the different sound programs.

**** UPDATE 3: I was living with the problem above. Now, two years into it, the HDMI out ceased to work, making the unit useless. I did buy 4 year extended warranty, thank goodness… The return process to get it fixed is a nightmare though. Good thing I have an older but very reliable SONY receiver I can use in the meantime.

    VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED.

I have to admit that I’m a Yamaha brand loyalist. The only other brand I considered before purchasing was Onkyo. my immediate perceptions of the build quality after comparing them in store was at the Yamaha has a heavier build and better quality components at this price range.

I’m happy with the results I got with the YPAO setup mic, and I was able to tweak the settings easily.

I’m also pleased with the MusicCast App. It plays nicely with my phone and fairly nicely with my Network Access Storage device, which is another brand (Sony HAP-S1).

Plenty of power to drive my speakers; moderate sized center, two towers in front and bookshelf rears.

My only real disappointment is that even though my Blu-ray player is a Yamaha, there appears to be no way to use the Blu-ray control buttons on the remote to control my Blu-ray player. That’s a real misstep in my opinion.

Glad now my Onkyo died prematurely. Set up easy, USB, Bluetooth work great. But we use mostly Spotify (Premium required) via Wi-Fi, controlled easily by a Spotify app on any Android phone or our laptop. Easily transfer control of Spotify between devices, stop a device, take it away, the music continues as its between the receiver and the router: a device is only used to modify what’s playing, including the volume on the receiver. Relatively simple interface, but the remote and the receiver itself. A find!

I have this hooked up to my Klipsch 12″ Sub (Klipsch R-120SW) and 4 Klipsch Bookshelf speakers (Klipsch R41M), sounds bloody amazing! I hardly have to push the volume because of the amount of power this thing pushes out to the speakers, Yamaha really knows audio!
